This is the worst place I have been! Most of the staff that works there don't have certificates for home health or CNA. The don't even speak English. The one guy that was always working a double would sleep at night and my loved one told me that he would hit them and was trying to rape them, but since my loved one has memory care issues they weren't going to believe them, but I know my loved one and I know something happened. He wasn't raped cause I took my loved one to the doctor. But he was dramatic.

Don’t waste your time bringing your loved one here if they have Alzheimer’s

I placed my dad here. After a few weeks of being there, my dad hadn’t fully adjusted. The psych nurse as well as the head nurse gave him too many psych meds and he was stoned. I asked that he be taken off what was making him that way, reevaluate his meds and put him on something that worked . With Alz, adjustment isn’t easy, as they can be more confused and agitated with change. This place didn’t want to do anything but shove more meds down his throat. After multiple pleas with them , they did nothing. the director of that place called me and was snotty with me telling me that I was getting a “courtesy” call to inform me that my dad was being baker acted for something that happened the day before. I’m his POA, by law they have to call me. I hadn’t gotten a call to tell me that my dad was agitated to begin with. They don’t care about the residents and would rather send them out then help them. They don’t want to deal with anyone who is adjusting. I’ll be making a complaint with ACHA.

Don't live there

The atmosphere in the Atrium is very deceiving. Unreported incidences occur that management skims over. They ignore the attitudes of some of the staff. People are bossing other people around that they have no business bossing. Food doesn't always get to the residents. I would not send anybody there.

Do not waste you time and monies with this place its awful, dangerous/unsafe with no staffing around and they keep everyone dirty/wet with their own urine. The staff are horrible, they don't care and are only there for a paycheck. They seem cheaper but you get what you pay for, stay away!!!!!

Don't put your loved one here

The only thing consistent about this facility is taking your money. There is no daily well check for residents. Our loved one was sick in their room and didn't go to the dining room for two days and no one noticed. The hot water is consistently out, the facility is dirty and we had to purchase a vacuum for our resident because she was told their vacuums were all broken. She puts her trash outside her room and it's not picked up for days. They expect her to get down on her hands and knees to defrost/clean her refrigerator. They leave residents with dementia screaming for hours, upsetting other residents. The director is lazy and inept.

Unsafe care for those with dementia or medical conditions

I had a terrible experience with Palmetto Landing. My father was diabetic with early to moderate stage dementia. Upon move-in we reviewed this information on his monitoring needs with the director, the nurses, and the physician who would be seeing him here. I found out nearly 3 months later with an ambulance ride to the emergency room that they had not checked his blood sugar in 3 months! It was critically high. They kept commenting on mental status changes and never thought to check his blood sugar. That is unreal to me as an RN and unacceptable. The wellness/nurse director was always very rude to me on the phone, very condescending, and would call me to tell me things my father was doing "wrong" despite having dementia. Never had anything help to offer to improve his quality of life. Their memory care wing is a sorry excuse for memory care, now that I have seen how real memory care facilities function properly and offer care and support. My father did not receive that at Palmetto Landing. He was treated poorly and neglected. I would show up unannounced and find him in the same clothing, unbathed, that he had on 5 days prior, with soiled clothing in his room, and moldy food in his mini-fridge. This is an unsafe place for memory care for many reasons. My Dad lived here for 4 long months while we were searching for a better fit. He was disrespected and treated poorly. He developed new "behaviors" during this time and no one was willing to help get a consult for him. During that time I received many phone calls in the middle of the night saying he was being difficult and threatening to send him to the ER by ambulance and then just not accept him back. Basically threatening to abandon him unsafely if we could not secure a new facility for him quickly enough. They gave me 2 hours notice on a holiday weekend to hire 1:1 care or they would drop him off at the ER and not take him back. So we hired 1:1 companion care for Dad to protect him and ensure he was safe until we could relocate him, and those sitters would tell me what really went on in the facility. His "behaviors" were related to the disrespect he faced at Palmetto Landing and mostly stopped once we got him to a better facility with caregivers trained in dementia care and how to talk to and treat someone who doesn't understand what is happening to them. It is scary for someone with dementia to be in new surroundings with strangers caring for them, strangers wandering into their rooms at all hours of the night startling them out of sleep, yelling at them, taking their belongings, etc. A GOOD memory care facility will mitigate all these things as much as possible and calmly re-direct and console in a helpful manner, not yell at residents and expect dementia patients to understand and change their behavior on their own.

Childish staff

Some of The resident assistants are wonderful and are willing to help. But they hire very young ppl and they are childish, loud, and one lied about taking my moms blood sugar. She would ask her to pick a number and my mom did so that’s what the girl put in the computer for her blood sugar reading. She never checked it. Management favors a few residents also staff. I have witnessed a girl hiding from residents when they needed help. I would hate for that to have been my mom.

This is the last place you want your loved one to go. Understaffed, noncaring and only concerned about their profit.

Not a good place for memory care

This is not the place to put your loved one for memory care who still has mobility! They cannot handle this type of resident. My 90 year old father has Alzheimer's, and was literally kicked out after showing aggressive behavior. To add insult to the situation, the Brookdale staff called 911 after he became agitated when they woke him up at 6am one morning. The staff hid in a broom closet until police arrived! What kind of senior care is that!

Very bad place!

This place was very depressing and dark. Also when we were suppose to take a tour all the man did was put us in the main room and talk. I asked where everyone was at because we did not see one single resident in the whole hour we were there. There was nothing going on.

Too many falls

If your loved one has difficulty walking, do NOT send them here. People FALL all the time and get hurt. The ambulance is always there. They do not restrain, which is ridiculous when people keep falling. I know someone who just had a brain bleed and must have gone to the emergency room a dozen times in the last year. I call this neglect and abuse.

This is the worst place ever. If i would have known about their lack of care I would have not let my Grandma go there. They just don't care about their patients well being. Abd the cost is outragous.

This place is aweful. The staff does not care about the residents. Its the same menu's everyday and they are always short on staff. I think they need to replace management, get a new team in there.

Disappointed

Having know some one in the place years ago it has truly changed, keep looking if you are looking into placing your loved one there. The good staff they have had, don't stay which is a red flag. It is hard to find exceptional caregivers of course you can replace a body but it is not always about just replacing the body. The staff is over worked and seem to be doing other jobs that should be under other departments categories descriptions which takes always from patient care. Unfortunately this has been observed for quite some time and the old saying you never know who is watching. There are residents that are quite aware and have freely spoke during my visits unaware of who was really listening. I feel sorry for the ones who put the effort in and go unnoticed while it seems the ones conducting are all about the money and themselves. When its suppose to be about the loved ones.

I lived in this facility. The food, nursing staff and executive director are horrible, [removed] and [removed]. We were served pinto beans 2-3 times a week. These poor residents had to order grilled cheese sandwiches because the food was so bad and then were served sandwiches with a half of a processed cheese slice.I, as a resident, was required to push another wheelchair bound resident to and from the dining room. The staff were to lazy to go get this resident and she often missed meals. There is no entertainment or outings for the residents. I have lived in assisted living for 5 years no and found Brookdale of Kingston to be deplorable. [removed]
