nice facilities, understaffed

The room was ready for him on his first day and well supplied to meet his needs. The staff was extremely kind and attentive and came by with the activities coordinator and nurse to review procedures and let my FIL know what to expect. It was definitely comforting. A few moments after we arrived, staff came bearing a welcome basket with snacks, candy, and water. These measures made what could have been a stressful experience into a much more comforting one. Once settled in, care went down in quality. My FIL commented that he was frequently forgotten, and his meds were not given. When I forgot to sign him out once, he noted "they'll never notice as they don't come by to check on me." That was correct - his absence was not noticed. He said many residents had complaints about the lack of attention. He thought the meals were ok but "not great". I had trouble getting assistance when I needed it. The front desk was rarely manned as they shared an admin with another building. I had to hunt staff down in the halls, who often responded "that's not my area, and <name> that handles that is out." Staff members appeared hassled when asked to assist.

Disappointed

If your loved one only needs minimal care, this would be a good place. If your loved one needs additional medical support I wouldn't recommend the community. They weren't able to provide the medication management, dressing, feeding, and bathing assistance that my loved one needed. I paid extra for extra services my loved one needed. The first week was great. The second week they didn't have enough staff and then there was COVID in the community. My loved one needed assistance with cutting the food, and this wasn't happening. I had a staff member that stated that my loved one was too far from the nurses and aides. The new nurse manager in memory care was concerned they wouldn't be able to care for my loved one. They didn't have staff to take care of the laundry and ended up taking laundry home to do it. I found dirty sheets and linens in the process of reviewing my loved one's room. The community held me to the 30-day clause since I decided I didn't want my loved one to stay since they didn't have enough staff to take care of my loved one.

Bait and Switch

This community provides continental breakfast and a dinner which is served around 4. There are times that the breakfast items are left empty or low due to the community thinking the residents won't be down at a later time. The lunch time they have to ring a door bell, and the staff will take their time to answer the door to provide lunch to the residents. Most of the residents will eat breakfast and dinner. There have issues with the bus transportation so some residents will drive themselves to the outings provided by the community. I wish there was more follow up and transparency by the community with the family. The community has recently changed management teams, and the new management team has ripped down the balconies, and this is one of the reasons my loved one choose this community. There are some building materials inside the community and this is concerning for the residents walking in the community. Plus, the construction noises is very loud and causes disruptions for the residents wanting to relax.

Frustrated

They have not even called to ask how my loved one is doing. We have been trying to get in contact with the director and he has not been responsive. They need to get an activities director for the weekends and on Mondays and Fridays because there is not much going on. They are a newer facility but should have their things together by now, we have been very frustrated with the experience so far.

A good community, but nutrition piece could be improved

We have little and limited experience with Renaissance we rely on feedback from our loved one but overall we do think the community atmosphere is good. Our loved one has type 2 diabetes and we do notice the meals to be pretty carb heavy, we do wish they were more protein based. They need to have more dietary options for those with dietary restrictions.

Our experience with Highpoint

We have had a couple of issues, we thought they had to use their preferred pharmacy and we were told it would be no different than any other pharmacy. It ended up being much more expensive so we switched back. She is having probelms with ants in her room. She is not a fan of the food, it is more institutional. They have been out of a lot of things as well that are on the menu. There have just been some issues during the transition period.

Not the right place at the right time

The marketing woman you deal with in the beginning was amazing and phenomenal, she is so sweet and thorough. She went above and beyond in trying to make the transition as easy as possible. Everything started out fine, within a few weeks they wanted us to bring in extra therapists to help out. They were encountering anger issues and added some more medications to help calm her. We spoke to the speech therapist and she had good reports and was making good lead way with her. I do not think that the staff members were trained to handle her and they sent her to a psych ward. This facility was just not a good fit for my sister and the type of care that she needed at the time.

Make Sure Your Loved One is Getting the Care They Need

If your loved one is able body it is a nice place for them. My loved one fell and broke a bone. I asked for details and the cameras supposedly were not working that day in the hallway. They didn't even call to share their condolences of my loved one's death. This was all during the pandemic.

Overall it was good, and yes i would recommend it.

Our issue with the community was all of the restrictions due to covid. Our loved one declined so rapidly when he was isolated, we could do window visits but his hearing was not good. He also was not able to verbalize well so it became extremely hard to talk to him. When we were able to visit the community whenever we wanted, we were able to observed everything and everything was good, but once the lock downs started it was hard to see everything that was going on. Generally the staff members were all amazing. When it came to the care services, the nurses on the first and third shift were wonderful. The supervisor on the second shift was amazing, however they would bring in new people to help her, and they were just not as experience as we wished they were. The meals and dining service was terrific, and for a lot of the residents there they activities were great. It is expensive but overall the value was reasonable. The rooms all have heat in them, but the only AC unit is in the common areas. .

A disappointment with Robin Way

The reason we chose Robin Way was because it was our understanding that she could stay there once her money ran out, and no matter her health condition. She started to fall more frequent and just after a year of being there they didn't want her to stay because they didn't want to take that falling risk. We know it was a good place, but we were just disappointed about her not being able to be there because of her falling. That was not made clear, and they led us to believe that could be her forever home. We also had some concerns about her medications being on time, she had Parkison's which needed to follow a strict medication routine, and often times she would receive her medication an hour early or an hour late.

My experience with Renaissance North Tampa

We chose Renaissance North Tampa because it was very clean and everybody was friendly to us and the staff members were also very friendly to their residents. I really liked the activities that memory care was able to provide as well. The room sizes here are a little bit tight for us. The food here is something they could use improvement on, the meals are not very nutritious.

It's a Good Safe Place for Your Loved One to Go With Many Activities

I would recommend this community to others looking for their loved one. The food is ok, and not great. Hamlet at Chagrin Falls is expensive. The activities included: cooking classes, Bible classes, yoga, art classes, and more for the residents to choose from. These were all before pandemic. These will resume after the pandemic is over.

Care services were just okay

The food could of been a lot better. The rooms were fine. The care services were just okay, they claimed she needed more medication then what she actually need. They never knew where her medicine was, it was either "lost" or "couldn't find it." One thing that did stand out to us was the location, we liked the layout of the facility. The administrator we spoke to in the beginning was excellent,

So so..

I wanted to take my mother from here but she refused to move. Five directors in five years. Big turnover in staff. Food was good. Bus didnt work for a long time so no outings and there were long periods where there was no housekeeping. A one bedroom apt was about 300 sq ft and so much room was not useable because there is full size kitchen with cabinets/stove/frig. I never found it to be a happy place.....decor very dated. Aides were always kind to my mother but I never felt she got top notch care. Little to no interaction between director and residents...

Could use more aids! Supervisors don't work on floor and price is high for what you get!

Independent Living

Tour resulted, as most probably do, with pros and cons. My focus to start is more on independent living vs. assisted. Pros include beautiful, park like setting, which is highlighted with 4 large windows in the main living area of suites. Over 10 floor plans available. Rooms are spacious with an open main living area. Flooring is being upgraded along with exterior entryways, which is badly needed and may help alleviate the old, musty smell upon entry. Many activities and outings exist. The Atrium is quite nice with its versatile central courtyard offering space for many activities, while also providing some nice, sitting areas, away from the main courtyard while providing a view of most activities. Some cons include all independent units are entered by either taking 10 stairs up, or 5 stairs down (albeit these are wide and less steep), with the agent assuring me these are manageable even with a walker. Also, there is purportedly a back exit without stairs, at least on some units. The stairs and the hilly terrain are concerning for my mother who is increasingly losing her balance. Admittedly, this would not be a concern if living in the Atrium. The agent also assured me that full time onsite transportation is available for movement within the complex. While not terrible, the independent units also share a washer/dryer with one other unit. Finally, the price for independent units seems high but I have just begun my search so I do not have any comparisons.
