Greenbrier Senior Living

I wanted to take my mother from here but she refused to move. Five directors in five years. Big turnover in staff. Food was good. Bus didnt work for a long time so no outings and there were long periods where there was no housekeeping. A one bedroom apt was about 300 sq ft and so much room was not useable because there is full size kitchen with cabinets/stove/frig. I never found it to be a happy place.....decor very dated. Aides were always kind to my mother but I never felt she got top notch care. Little to no interaction between director and residents...

Could use more aids! Supervisors don't work on floor and price is high for what you get!

Tour resulted, as most probably do, with pros and cons. My focus to start is more on independent living vs. assisted. Pros include beautiful, park like setting, which is highlighted with 4 large windows in the main living area of suites. Over 10 floor plans available. Rooms are spacious with an open main living area. Flooring is being upgraded along with exterior entryways, which is badly needed and may help alleviate the old, musty smell upon entry. Many activities and outings exist. The Atrium is quite nice with its versatile central courtyard offering space for many activities, while also providing some nice, sitting areas, away from the main courtyard while providing a view of most activities. Some cons include all independent units are entered by either taking 10 stairs up, or 5 stairs down (albeit these are wide and less steep), with the agent assuring me these are manageable even with a walker. Also, there is purportedly a back exit without stairs, at least on some units. The stairs and the hilly terrain are concerning for my mother who is increasingly losing her balance. Admittedly, this would not be a concern if living in the Atrium. The agent also assured me that full time onsite transportation is available for movement within the complex. While not terrible, the independent units also share a washer/dryer with one other unit. Finally, the price for independent units seems high but I have just begun my search so I do not have any comparisons.

The second I walked into this facility, I was almost knocked over by the overwhelming stench. That was enough to make me not choose this place. I looked at the rooms, trying to see if it would be suitable for my mom, and there's no counter space. Everything seems so dark, it's hard to feel bright and cheery when there's nothing that's bright and cheery about it. I wouldn't recommend this place at all.

When I toured Brookdale, the tour guide was friendly and able to answer any questions, but I did not really care for the place. I thought it was very outdated and not exceptionally clean. It was dimly lit. when I went into the apartment, the cabinet was coming off of the wall. I probably was there 15 minutes before I wanted to run out of there.

I had a lot of tours and this community was not a good fit for my mom. This community was too big and we needed something much smaller. The representative I met with was upfront and they gave me a pretty good tour of the community.

I was not very impressed with my tour of this place and it was even recommended it to me from other people that my loved one not go here. Something just seemed very off and I just did not get a comfortable feeling from it.

I would say it is still a work in progress for my mother in law with her move to this community. She is still getting use to the routine around the community, and they are getting use to her, and her needs. The staff is nice, and helpful for the most part. I couldn't say if I would recommend this community, it is still early in the process. Overall it is a nice community.

There were many factors that played into where to move my brother too, and budget was one of those factors. This community rate were a little to high for his budget. I knew it wouldn't had been a good fit for him. It is a bigger community, and we wanted something more smaller and mellow.

My aunt never got to make her move into this community. I had everything set up for her to move into this place. The community looked nice and well maintained, and I had a nice room picked up for her. She did end up in rehab before her move. I knew she was gonna be in good hands here. I will say that I did lose out on some money even though my aunt never stayed here. Overall it is a good community.

The process of admitting my parent went very smoothly. Since then, I've found communication with the staff to be very hit-and-miss. Feedback is practically non-existent. I understand that everyone is very busy, and I don't want to be that person that everyone avoids, but I don't feel a part of any "care team." My experience is that 1 out of 3 phone calls are returned - I usually have to make the follow-up call. No one talked to me about what "Family Council" on the calendar is about. When I ask a specific question, the response (at all levels) is usually "S/he's fine" or "We see that a lot" or "Most of our patients..." and I'm left with the feeling that I'm glad they remember the name. I guess I want a little more personalized care, or at least the illusion of it, before I lower my expectations. My parent seems to have adapted well. I think there is room for improvement for helping family members move from home care to institutional care.

The grounds, fountains, dining hall, pool are great. Residents are great. But if you need care, it isnt so great. Personalized living provides aides for a half hour at a time. They are caring but not skillful. Assisted living is woefully understaffed so many residents have to hire aides to help them, in addition to paying for assisted living services. The Exec Director is not a leader and does not address problems with more than platitudes. Food was very good for several years but Brookdale is trying to squeeze out more money and the quality of food and the quality of care have declined since 2015. Corporate office is lame about addressing issues. Scamming seniors should be illegal. Because first and third floor are independent living, I guess there is no oversight of the quality. And security is non existent. Anyone can walk in the back or through resident's porches. This property used to be the best place in town. Without the Brookdale corporate greed and with a good leader, it could be great again.

Nice... not what the family had in mind

Least liked of the three visited Felt impersonal too large. Staff very nice. Linus needs an outside place to sit in the summer and didnt see that here. Clean but too dark.

Our experience with the community was somewhat mixed. It was a nice enough looking place, but they really were not equipped to handle even minor dementia problems. They might be worth a look if your loved one only needs assisted living and has no memory or dementia issues.

It's okay. It's unfortunately, probably the best one I seen so far in my loved ones price range. It's just okay. The nicer ones were expensive and the medicaid ones were horrible.

The only thing I didn't like was seeing ill seniors just sitting in the hallways slumped over in there chairs.

I was upset with the medication management. Make sure they review the medications and the problem is that you don’t have one nurse – you have to stay on top of things yourself. The parking has always been fine.

Food menu needed many other choices I am moving my dad to emeritus in gallatin because it is closer to me and the people seem more friendly and the price is the same

The food is very basic but the residents seem to like it. From what I see there is very limited options. But the menu does seem to vary which is good. People are friendly and seem very accommodating to request. One area of improve is nursing care. Only 5x8 RN on duty with med tech coverage the rest of the time. Seems the med techs can only do certain things. If you believe your family member needs more health care then you should definitely inquire whether this facility can meet your needs. Overall, my family member has adjusted to this facility and has made friends.
