It was and older building. There was nothing wrong with Sterling House but I just sort of gravitated to the newer places.

They were all very similar, you just didn't get as much for your money here. My mother didn't get as much square footage but the service, the cleanliness was all pretty much the same. When you go from a 4 bedroom almost 2000 square foot home to a 300 square foot one it's really hard.

Although this is an older property, they are trying to remodel some. The people we spoke with were very kind and seemed to know everyone there by name. Our first tour was with Nina, who was enthusiastic, but couldn't answer much. Dean, our follow up tour guide, was the Exec Director and very helpful and personable.

Must furnish own transportation to doctors' appointments. Also have a huge processing fee to move in.

This was a really sweet community. Loved the staff and residents. A little small? The rooms were just too cramped. Could be a fit because it felt homey. Will somehow accommodate bridge group.

During my tour of the Brookdale, I noticed that the place seemed a lot like a nursing home. The rooms were very small. When we arrived, the tour guide was very friendly and handed us a packet of information. Everyone was very friendly but it was not a good for her.

This is an older property but they are trying to renovate slowly. Food is very good and staff is friendly & helpful. However, during meal times the staff to help on the floor is doing the meals also, so slow to help during those meal times.

We were told the facility had staff to handle my mother-in-law’s ostomy, but that has not been the case. We have had to change home health companies multiple times because the facility staff was managing it too frequently and not effectively. The community itself is clean and does not have any odor, though it is not always as polished as expected. Staff interactions have been somewhat inconsistent, and over the past month, there has been a noticeable decline in friendliness, likely due to ongoing challenges with her care needs. Dining could use improvement, as there does not always seem to be a second option beyond a sandwich, and some days that appears to be the only choice. On a positive note, she is having a good time with the activities offered. Overall, we were initially told they could handle her care needs, but we have had to step in and arrange additional outside support, including taking her to a wound care facility to ensure proper care and education.

It was very close to me. I was pleased with the environment. It was very clean. I think one thing I did not care for was the rule that my Aunt wasn't able to have her tray delivered to her room. I wish the laundry would have been done more often. The staff was friendly.

My mother loves the community. I'm responding from a former position in healthcare. For the $$$, I would like to see more "feet on the ground " and less administration. The "worker bees" likely aren't appropriately compensated for the tasks they are asked to perform. The community needs to be honest about what staff can and can't handle. Some residents are more complex than others.

Was a decent tour, nothing to exciting that day that stood out and above the others. Just was within proximity of where family is and is why we chose to have a visit. Seemed like some updates could be done or maybe a deep cleaning in common areas.

Our family just did not really like the experience here at Brookdale, they need to improve all the meals and dining service as a whole, they need to improve on the staff and the house keeping.

I went on a tour here and I liked it. The staff was nice and helpful. They answered all of my questions. The rooms were on the smaller side. There was just a lot of people sitting around asking for help.

Weekend meals are not adequate amounts nor tasteful. The weekend meals appear to be warmed-up TV dinners. Meal service is very inadequate, such as ignoring tables for orders, not refilling drinks, or bringing condiments on request. I am very disappointed in the treatment of the residents by the meal staff. The total disregard of the residents during mealtimes is very disappointing to me and my parents. Some of the staff seems to have forgotten that their jobs is for the assistance and care of the elderly. Other than meals, I am pleased with Brookdale and the overall staff. Hopefully these problems will be addressed soon .

Nice place. 42 residents. All seemed to be more independent than Mom. Not sure they can handle Mom's level of care, though the Director says they can. Further distance than we would like.

Not a good experience for me there were no activities are very few activities for my wife. Communications were very tough. Our stay at gemstone only lasted 16 days and that's because of my guilt unfortunately [name removed] passed on [date removed] Just not a good experience for the short time we were there very nice people, but not much in terms of activity and keeping the folks mentally engaged other than TV watching.

The community made promises that didn't keep. The medical help and suggestions they made were not followed through with. I would not recommend this community to others. I feel that they are very good at hiding things, and they promised a lot when we were looking at them and they did not do what they said they would.

My husband was only here for a few hours and he fell and broke hi hip. I am unhappy with the community for not refunding me my deposit because we did not move in after he fell on their property. I agreed to pay for the time my furniture was in the room but I have not got a resolution yet.

My mother is very old fashioned, very, very old fashioned and she didn't like what you might say "male and female dating" or whatever you want to call it and she took real offense to what was going on. She felt really uncomfortable there so that's why we got her out of it. She didn't like the food, there was so much there about the food that she didn't like, but my mom is a very good cook and she thought the food there was just plain horrible. Most of the time the food was fried, fried fish, fried everything..she said she didn't think anybody could screw up spinach out of a can but they did. I would have never put her there because the room she was put into was basically dark and depressing already walking in to it.

My parents have been at Brookdale Lewisville for almost a month now. It has been a struggle on our part to try and get issues with care and billing in order, of which is still an ongoing concern. We're doing what we can to help make this work as a place for my folks. I'm surprised A Place for Mom would have recommend this facility as an option, it makes me hesitate to consider other options they may recommend.
