Care

This facility is very clean and nice. The care however is not for Residents with any degree of behavior issues. Once the dementia/Alzheimer's resident is at the stage of behavior change this place is unable or will not take care if the resident. They should not advertise that they will take care of these residents. They do not implement drs or hospice plans. The management leaves a lot to be desired. They have had 3 directors in 18 months. The current director is rude and send to not care. The nurses prefer to not be bothered. I would not recommend placing my loved one in this facility. We had to move ours for their safety.

Not a Positive Experience

Originally we liked the facility, but they did not handle my father properly. We explained everything to them about why it was time for him to be in a facility - anger, hitting, everything. They said that they were trained and could deal with it. There was a bidding war going on to see who could get him. They offered specials etc. but we feel like we were thrown into a boiling pot. There was an incident where he tried to get into bed with another resident thinking that it was his wife. He has Alzheimer's! The staff told him that his wife would be in his room, but when she wasn't there he threw the table and the staff had to call 911. They had said that they would take anyone, but once this happened they said that they could not handle him. The director got fired right after my dad left Arbor Oaks, probably for letting him into the community. They never did an official evaluation, and they didn't document the incident in any of their notes. They dealt with everything very poorly. The staff was distant towards the residents. We liked the building; it was big and beautiful. My friend had his mom there and it worked out well. That's why we ended up choosing it. After he left they distroyed all of his medication but didn't even know which medication they had distroyed. He was only there 11 days and we were charged for the full month. We want a refund.

It Was Worse Than It Should've Been

Within 36 hours of my loved one being in the community, my loved one fell three times due to no staff was watching my loved one. Between hospice and this community they hastened the demise of my loved one. They weren't proactive in trying to keep food or fluids going into my loved one during their stay. The community and family would have meetings and they would be non-productive about my loved one's care. I even wrote letters to the community about my loved one's care and the concerns I had about this. This place is BAD!

Poor care at Pine Ridge

My mom was a resident at Pine Ridge for just under 4 months. While her condition declined rapidly during that time it is my belief that lack of attention and poor staffing contributed to the speed of her decline. One of the reasons we chose Pine Ridge for my mother initially was because she had been falling at home. They boasted a motion detector in every room. Within the first 15 days of her stay she fell twice, one of the falls resulted in a shoulder fracture. My mom was continent for the better part of her stay there, she even asked for and used the commode on the day she died. Despite that her caregivers insisted she wear diapers and refused to take her to the bathroom when she asked to be helped. My mom was not very mobile during her stay and eventually ended up slumped over in a wheelchair or sleeping in a recliner in the “safety room” where multiple residents were placed during the day requiring less staff to care for them. I repeatedly ask that she be allowed to lay in bed when she was sleeping, my requests were ignored. While there my mom developed a large pressure sore on her spine that was never reported to the family. She developed open sores on both of her feet that eventually led to larger wounds and necrotic tissue. She had very little if any oral care, her glasses were frequently missing, her hearing aids were often not in her ears at all and if they were they were improperly placed or not charged, she wore the same clothes for up to 4 days At a time and she often had food caked on her clothing and face. She had had a drastic change in her condition on the day she died that I only discovered when I went to visit her, I found her in severe respiratory distress, she passed away 3 hours after I had gotten there to see her. The entire experience at Pine Ridge was stressful, unpleasant and eye opening. My mom received poor care, they were short staffed, communication and follow up with family was lacking. Because of my experience with my mom at Pine Ridge I would not recommend it to anyone.

Think twice

You wrote a review for The Wentworth of Las Vegas 4 days ago 1.0 star rating [date removed] If you plan on moving your loved one to the Wentworth Las Vegas, you might want to think again. My mother has been at the Wentworth Las Vegas for the past 4 years, over that time period we have seen 4 executive mangers come and go. Each time a new one comes on board, they try to make changes to justify their position. They started with wanting to move my mom from her private room to a shared room after many phone calls and meetings they decided to leave her in her room she had been in since day one, then the next one wanted to move her to the memory care unit when her doctor said she only had early stages of dementia and didn't need to be in memory care yet, so after a long battle they dropped that Idea. Then about 8 months ago they got another new manager and she moved my mom to the memory-care side without informing the family, so we couldn't be there, this really messed with my mothers mind and well being. If we could of been there to help with the transition it would of made the world of difference so since then my mom has been very confused always talking about her room upstairs it seem to cause her to start to feel helpless like she did something wrong, this move caused her to be very sad and depressed but by the time we found out it was too late they moved all her stuff and bed so to move her again would only confuse her worse so we decided to keep her and just increase the amount of times we visit her a week and we hired a care taker to come in the middle of the week when we are all working. By the way the person that made that rash decision is no longer with the company. Now we have a new manager and her decision is to EVICT MY 86 year old mother because they said they can't take the risk that she might want to return to her ways of wanting to go for a walk or I should use their terms to wonder outside. She is in the memory care side of the Wentworth they are locked in but they take her into the main lobby once and a while for group functions and she remembers her old ways of going for a walk and wants to go outside, this is very confusing for her but yet they say she is a wonder and a risk to the manager loosing her license so they want to kick her out. What kind of place is this? My mother isn't the only one that wants to go for a walk or the only one suffering from memory loss. Think twice before you decide to trust the Wentworth with your loved one.... My mom keeps asking me what did I do wrong why are they throwing me out. Short answer because you became a problem for them..

My father stayed at this place a for a couple of months a few years ago. He has since passed away but this experience haunts me even to this day. This was the first place we found when his Alzheimers came to a place that we were no longer qualified to care for him. At first this place looked nice and big and the intake person made us feel like this would be a good fit for him. Nothing could be further from the truth. We visited him every day and each time we were met with a new negative happening. The clients were left to sit alone, often wet, thirsty and hungry. We were told we could get my dad a cookie or juice whenever we wanted. He always seemed very hungry and thirsty. I often thought, what does he do when we are not here? It only escalated from there, with unexplained bruises, missing things from his room ( I even found his sheets tucked in the crease of the couch one time. The final straw was when we received a call that he had a bad fall. They said it was nothing to be concerned about and that they just wanted to notify us. When we arrived at the place we found my dad badly shaken with a bad black eye and bruising on his body. Everyone had a different story, but they said he was noncompliant with one of the aids and they had to force him into his bathroom and he fell. My dad was always nervous around that male aid and we knew why. I would strongly urge anyone thinking about placing there loved one in this place to keep looking. The staff was shifty, uncaring and dishonest. I will never forget the care my dad didn’t get at this place.

CANNOT RECCOMMEND

My dad has resided in Barathaven for nearly 2 and a half years. During this time, I can say that many caregivers and nurses took as good of care as they could based on high turnover and constant understaffing. High turnover and understaffing falls solely on the Administration. My interactions with the care staff has always been positive, and keeping my dad’s care as a top priority up until this week. This week, I had the misfortune of meeting with [name removed], LPN. Unfortunately, the winter/spring illness swept through the facility and my father came down with a fever and pneumonia. Because of his age, it took some time but he was finally eating. I live out of state but was getting daily updates from my brother and also spent over 6 hours with him at Barathaven on the weekend of [date removed]. I saw him eat an entire plate of eggs and sausage with no help swallowing fine and regaining his appetite. He also drank a 8 oz beverage in it’s entirety. He was joking and laughing this weekend. However he was still weak from days in bed. Unfortunately, on [date removed], he fell getting up from a chair at lunch and had to have an hip replacement. He returned to Barathaven on [date removed]. Because Barathaven is not a skilled care facility, has only LPN and not RN staff, he could not return with his feeding tube. I drove in over 400 miles from out of state to visit. I was not understanding his wife’s decision to not place him into an interim facility where he could still have an IV and feeding tube until he regained strength, could rehab, and regained his appetite for solid food. I know my dad has always hated going under anesthesia because he states if affects him for days. This would have been exasperated because of his weakened state. I entered his room to find my sister already pleading with his wife to give him a chance and pleading with my mother to try to let him eat/drink. I probably should not have entered but it is hard not to after a seven and a half hour drive. [Name removed] did not allow my sister to continue to speak to my mother. It was an emotionally charged situation between family members. Although I got my mom to calm down after [name removed] and a third sister left the room, and the situation was de-escalated...[name removed] kept inserting herself into a family matter and speaking on items that she should not have. In this matter, [name removed] did not remain neutral, and in fact was more of a pot stirrer than anything. [Name removed] could not put her ego and meddling ways aside. I literally would be making a plea to give my dad a chance to recover and [name removed] would yell from the door that my dad can not leave Barathaven “he is not going anywhere”. THAT is plain crazy. He literally was just transported to Barathaven the day before. He could just as easily be transported to an interim skilled care facility where he could have the IV and feeding tube. It is not [name removed]’s place to interject. Every time my dad would start to become lucid, instead of allowing him to communicate....[Name removed] would encourage more sedation and Morphine. [Name removed] told me that my dad had not been lucid the entire time he had been in Barathaven. That is plain false. My dad regularly joked with me and the staff. Come to find out...[Name removed] had only worked there since [date removed]. Two weeks...and my dad had been recovering from pneumonia before he broke his hip. Barathaven failed my father by providing him the most heartless LPN who meddles in family matters and does not have any people skills. It is so sad that during my dad’s final days....the staff at Barathaven (Nurse [name removed]) is more for euthanasia than trying to get a resident to recover.

Horrible

Unethetical and absolutely no integrity. Management will hide things from you and lie through their teeth! This is why last year many residents were pulled out when new management took over. As well as the original staff leaving! If you love your family members DO NOT TAKE them here! They will not be properly taken care of! Our loved on is at a better facility now! Nothing but a horrible experience! And to have management falsely say they have family in the facility is a disgrace! Frontier management get your act together.

Beware

This place is newer and very clean, however, the care of our family members is what really matters. My father in law has walked out without any staff realizing it, twice, that we know of, within 10 days time. He was missing for hours before anyone contacted us and was found off Sunrise Blvd. the first time and local resident ran into him on the street and realized he had memory issues and called the police. The 2nd time, the police and several family members searched for hours and located him in a vacant field where he laid in the hot sun today for, who knows how long. The Court claims that this is a secure facility and that no one can get out without the alarm going off and staff getting to them before they walk out. Untrue. Unsafe. Unacceptable. I don't recommend this facility.Thank

Refused to Talk to Us

I called Overland Court for information, and they would not even asses my loved one. They refused to even talk to me because of my loved one's duel diagnosis. There was no way I would even think to put my loved one here just based on the way they initially received me.

Very Disappointed

We are very disappointed with all the lies we have been told at this community and we are about to move our loved one out. Our loved one is declining due to not getting the care that is needed or deserves for what we are paying. They went 3 weeks without a shower or brushing our loved ones teeth. They say they can't figure out how to do it. They would ask and of course said no they have dementia and they just left our loved alone in bed. Needs a little motivation to do things. They have fired the activity director and haven't replaced her yet. And the nurse quit that we had a good relationship with and the new one I can't put in words how we are not pleased with her. All the residents are just sitting in the common area when you walk in just sitting with nothing no music even. The caregivers are nice as can be but they are overworked and doing the best that they can.

Not Recommended

Regarding the lower level Alzheimer unit: Anybody Home? This place is deserted! They only allow patients to be in the main TV / eating area or in their rooms. They do not let their Alzheimer patients wonder. My mom was here and she wonders and roams and gets into things, that's why we wanted her to stay in a place that could handle someone with Alzheimer's. This facility can only handle people who are not able to move around much, people in a wheel chair or comatose! If your loved one can stand and walk around, or gets into things, I would recommend Silverado in Holladay. The staff at Coventry are nice and the place is beautiful and has codes for access, but they are just not able to really handle young spry Alzheimer's patients! The day I was there with my mom, I had to stop her from going into offices and getting into the medical medicine room. I was only there an hour and she was into everything!!! I SERIOUSLY was concerned what was happening when I wasn't there!!! They really should have a 1/2 door on the medicine / nurse room to stop people from entering it or other places they don't want people to go!!! They obviously don't understand you can't negotiate with people with Alzheimer, you have to keep them out with 1/2 doors. Even in the office there was paperwork all over and my mom got into everything! The office should be closed or have 1/2 doors!!! You can't tell someone with Alzheimer's to stay out, or tell them what to do, you can only guide or re-direct!!! This facility really needs to have someone go take a look at Silverado, they need to copy exactly what they do and how they handle their patients!!! PRO Clean New building Large spacious rooms Nice staff OK food CONS Not able to handle active Alzheimer's patients Staff need more training on dealing with Alzheimer's No half doors No good geriatric activities No furniture- you have to move it all in and out Hidden fees

Avoid Catalina Springs!

When this facility first opened it showed to be a positive environment for our loved ones. Once the original executive director left, things went downhill fast. They have had tremendous difficulty keeping caregivers and they often run short handed. The sanitation of the resident rooms is poor, caregiver training extremely poor and the nursing staff non-existent. There are very few activities and the daily activity board is a joke. Today the activity director doubles as the front desk secretary (as does the housekeeper and caregivers). The mismanagement over the past 18 months has led to many families moving their loved one out The Executive Director presents her self as uncaring and void of emotion. She is rarely seen on the floors of the facility and when concerns are brought to her attention she often says "Oh?" Most often nothing is done to rectify the problem. I recommend you go elsewhere to place your relative, this facility appears incapable of maintaining a safe and loving environment. It is extremely expensive and offers far less than other facilities. Do your homework and look elsewhere.

Better care

The care at this community was not what we wanted. The staff wanted my father's door closed at all times. The staff constantly called my sister for no reasons. The staff called an ambulance that was not needed. We were informed that this community calls the paramedics when they dont want to help residents. This community is not recommended due to the care. My father is no longer there and doing well. Families should tour this community before they make a decision for the care of the family.

Forget the Indoor Pool

The pool area is filthy, green slime in the pool, broken equipment. Mold on the back of the doors to the shower area. Pool in desperate need of resurfacing. The rest of the place was fair to good, residents seemed happy and friendly.
