Not the best experience...

My mother is doing okay with the transition, she has not been happy with a couple of things like the fact that they did not get her diet right for a week. Also, the activities that she was interested in don't happen. The residents don't gather for them and it has not a very welcoming experience. My sister has complained about them not cleaning her room like they indicate in the beginning. They did follow up and get her physical therapy, otherwise, the nursing care and therapy have been fine but the management and 2nd shift are not the best.

Not what we expected...

So far I am very disappointed with Rock Run place. I have a very large family and we visit often. We were there the other day and my husbands room was disgusting. His toilet wasn't flushed and there was feces all over the floor. One of the ladies in housekeeping told me the CNA's don't clean up the bathrooms and leave everything for the housekeeping crew. Since my husband has moved in his electric shaver and glasses have gone missing. I was also discouraged because I met with the doctor the other day and he referred to my husband as the "Trouble Maker." I felt that wasn't professional. They say he bites and kicks but he had a home caregiver before and we never had issues like that. I brought him to Rock Run Place to get help. I was there yesterday around 10am and his new roommate had missed breakfast because no one woke him up. I feel like they could do a better job and I am very disappointed.

Emeritus seemed like a good fit at first, but the reality is, management changed 3 times in the 9 months my mother was there, and each time it changed, the culture changed. I thought it was good to start, but quickly went down once the management changed. My mother passed away at Emeritus in January and although some of the nurses were good during that dying process, unfortunately, the nurse on duty the night/morning she passed was not competant. As a nurse myself, I was mortified that she expressed her negative and judgemental opinion that the minute amounts of morphine hospice was instructing us to give was a bad idea. She also proved that she was not competant in drawing up the syringe of Morphine. Here we were just trying to help my mother who suffered greatly to transition with less pain to the inevitable conclusion, and she was resisting this. Some of the aids were great, and some were not so great. The problem was when they weren't there, her care was dissapointing. When my mother started to have difficulty swallowing, I felt that the staff wasn't trying hard enough to get nutrition into her. It became a difficult job, and I understand that it takes time, probably more time than they had to devote to one person. I've come to understand that when you are faced with putting your loved one in a facility, NOBODY is going to be good enough. Obviously, if you feel you, yourself, aren't capable of caring for them, it's difficult to judge when others find it difficult as well. Dementia is a terrible disease that ends in heartbreak. Nothing can cure it, nothing is perfect in caring for it.

Did not have a good experience

My loved one was not happy with this place. We had a few different issues that really soured our whole experience here. First, she had some pain medication go missing. Another issue was that at one point she had to go to the hospital, and when she returned they said that they didn't have a room available since she was no longer appropriate for the second floor. They eventually decided that she could stay on the second floor after all. She also had issues with alzheimer's patients wandering into her room at all, which did not make her feel comfortable.

Cheaper for a reason

That place smelled like both urine and lysol and they kept telling me how much cheaper they were and I was looking at the residents and they weren't dressed properly. They were all just sitting out there and drooling, they couldn't get involved in anything and it just gave me a bad feeling.

My loved one hated it here

I wouldn't recommend it. We hardly ever seen nurses. They were supposed to be on every floor. We were there 4-5 times looking for nursing staff and no one was there. No one ever answered my loved ones call light. She was sleeping on her couch because no one would come help her out of bed. My loved one hated it here. The meds where a challenge, they could never get them right. She was without towels, no one told us we needed to provide those. We never got keys to her place. It took a week to get my loved one belongings out and it was unlocked. The management literally turned around when we were there and walked away. Crap management. We had a mix up in billing. They owed us money due to overcharging us. Billing system was crazy. Almost every activity was canceled.

Disappointed family members

My mom's been there for years and I hate it there they don't take good care of her. She's always falling they take forever to answer her when she pushes her pendent. She is completely raw on her inner thighs and she doesn't get more than two baths a week. They took her scooter from her and lied to me about were it is.shes had money missing and other items. They just brush it off and make her think shes crazy. My mom can't walk good they won't push her to her meals they make her do her chair. One of the stage members started screaming at me and swearing claiming I took a picture of her I didn't. I showed another staff member there was no picture. The girl kept yelling and preventing me from walking away. She called the police on me the police came looked threw my phone no picture. The girl still works there no punishment for her act.the food up on 2r is nasty and some of the staff are rude and lazy.????

Fair to Poor

My uncle was moved her from another facility to Rock Run last May 2016. He was there through October. It was very sad to see the difference in the staff and environment. We were there for the change in management and it seemed to decline. In stark contrast to his previous memory care facility, there was no engagement with the elderly. I had an opportunity to witness this first-hand because I where there for a week (two overnights as well) while he was dying. Every day the elderly people were lined up in front of the nurses desk where they sat all day facing the staff. I never saw him or other patients engaged or in another other area except lined up in front of the tv. Easy for the staff but brutal for the elderly The air conditioning was extremely cold. I found my uncle sitting in his like this on several occasions. I asked for him to have his blanket and sweater put on (I had it written in his chart) because he was sitting there cold in a tshirt and socks. Our hospice nurse suggested we have this written into his orders to ensure he wasn't left like this in the future. So what are the staff doing? The staff supervise from the main nurses station. On several occasions I arrived to hear the TV very loud in the other room. The staff had it that way so that they could here it from their desk. The tv stations were meant for them and not the elderly (i.e. [Removed]). The staff were kind and most seemed to care but they were just going through the motions because they are understaffed. This facility has changed hands several times in a short period so that could be the reason for their lack of connection to the elderly. The evenings look more like a treatment center and less like a home. A supervisor needs to check in periodically at odd hours. There is very little care going on and lack of respect for patients. During the night, one of the nurses came in to the bathroom to find some diapers for another patient. Her phone was clipped to her waste playing music very loudly. It was so difficult to lay there next to my dying loved one with such lack of consideration. I wanted him to have peace. Although my uncle was bound to a wheelchair, there are many vibrant and mobile elderly there. I suggest creating some centers or stations that they can engage in. The facility is poorly used and set up. Lots of wasted space. It isn't "elderly-centered".Why not create spaces for them to role play or reminisce? i,e, music from their past, put a baby in a crib with a changing table, a laundry station where they can fold clothes and put in a basket, tools that are safe, card tables, checkers tables, etc. Once a week outside people come in to play the organ and they love it. The outside of the facility is clearly not used. Why can't they make a garden or be taken out to see the bird nests? When I was there I wheeled my uncle out and showed him the birds nest. His words to me were, "isn't God glorious, look at those birds." He had dementia but that short trip outside had meaning. I hate to complain but it is hard to not say something. Since he passed, I have found myself thinking of those people sitting there planted in the same place day after day. I am hoping that my feedback will prompt more supervision and a change or service. Thank you.

Beware

Please be aware that this facility in Joliet has changed owners 3 times in approximately 16 months. I have had a loved one in the dementia facility. With each change in ownership there is turnover in staff and periodic understaffing which I feel greatly affects standard of care.

Not Recommended

Staff is very unresponsive to Family trying to get updates Medical Professionals after outside care - not enough staff for the care of residents. Constant disregard for family requests for updates. In house PT never gave updates after numerous requests. Overall I would Never recommend this facility - after numerous falls by our mother and other personnel giving different accounts of what happened - I wouldn't feel anyone's Loved Ones would be Safe at Mission Creek.

Poor memory care

My mother was at the facility for a year starting when it was the Landing. When Eden Vista took over, we moved my mother, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, into their memory care unit at their suggestion in July 2023. Within a 3 month period there 3 instances I had to bathe my mother as she visibly not receiving physical care and I was not notified of any changes in medication or behavior related to dx unless they sent her to ER. One time I noted she had 2 pair of pants on, one covered anther with dried urine on it.I was reassured by manager that things would improve, however, it did not and after having to bathe my mom due to severe body odor, I had to quickly move to new facility in October 2023. They are now forcing payment of 25 more days which she was not at their facility. I didn’t want to move her but had no choice and ended up separating her from her husband who remained there until we could move him 2 weeks later. I would be cautious if looking for memory care here.

Review for Trustwell Living at Rock Run Place Memory Care

I would tell a friend, not to go to rock run and send them somewhere else. The place is dirty and too much change of personal and no one in mgmt cares about anything. This place is no different than a nursing home .

Overcharging a resident for over a year. No end in sight.

When Eden Vista took over management, they started overbilling us $[removed]/month. This was because our original contract was for a larger room with a kitchenette. The resident moved into a smaller apartment a few months after move in when a smaller unit became available which was $[removed]/month less. No new paperwork was completed, we just were billed less each month. The new management came in and has billed us for the amount of the bigger room and no amount of inquiries or complaints has changed the invoicing. We are promised refunds but the billing has not been corrected nor a refund of over $[removed] been received for over a year. We've had to cancel autopay. Watch your funds if you choose to use this facility for your loved ones. Claims court is our next step.

Not very good

Moms been there a year. They didn't give her the room they promised. On move in day they switched it to a very loud area. When I asked [name removed] said don't worry. We can move her later if it doesn't work out. Well now they are just rude and now they want $[removed]to move her to fix a problem they created. I tried calling director but she won't call back. If you decide to move a loved one here get everything in writing because her response to everything is I never said that. Not sure what to do at this point.

Needs Improvement

They were understaffed, and it was not a good experience. Some of the staff were pretty nice, and some were not. They had activities but they did not encourage my loved one to participate. They need to improve on effective communication with family members, and providing updates on their loved ones care.

Mission Creek review

If your loved one just needs a place to live or needs minimal assistance then this community could be great, however the memory care part of the community sucks. We felt that they just wanted to fill a room and did not have our loved ones best intentions in mind, we felt they had lied to us. We would not recommend the memory care side of Mission Creek to anyone.

Bad experience

We had my mom at the facility before it was purchased by Eden Vista, but she moved out in mid October and was due a credit for the remainder of the month,. Not only have they not returned the balance of the prorated monies, they tried to deduct for November, when she wasn’t even living there! It’s been a nightmare and no one is taking ownership of the problem and they are not responding to my calls, emails, and texts. I’ll be filing a report with the BBB next.
