When they were Brookside we had no complaints

My mom has been there since about 2019. She has developed anxiety and agoraphobia during the pandemic. At the same time she needs more care Cogir seems to have lost a lost of staff and desire to fulfill their mission. My mom’s staff do not stick to her care plan, do not make sure she gets food when she is too anxious to come down to the cafe. While I was there she showed me a note that said “sorry no cups”- didn’t juice or coffee to her room because no cups? Did they bring it an hour later after they made a paper run? Oh no. She never did get anything. Two days last week she had no food because she couldn’t figure out the new rules for ordering. Did anyone check on her nutrition? No. I am so disappointed, but because of the spend down it would be hard to move her now. Do not recommend!

Park Terrace was a wonderful place (as it used to be a hotel). The woman who fave me the "tour" was not good. Didn't ask about my parents or their needs. Didn't show me around the facility. Took me to the model, handed me brochures, sat in a chair while I looked at the apartment, then told me the cost. Hustled out for her next appointment.

They're very good at selling the place. But then when we were actually there, we were kind of arguing with them the few months that she was there. Their attitude was good, but the care was poor. They say yes to everything, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen. We were not happy with them at all and would not recommend it there.

Unhappy Review

We always tell people that if we could move, we'd move tomorrow. The food is absolutely terrible, the people are all very old and because of that there's not much activity. You have to find something to do yourself. The food is not attractive or good looking, it looks like blobs of this & that. It's very repetitious, and doesn't taste good at all. We end up leaving a good amount of food on our plates and while leaving out of the dining room we notice that others do the same too. In regards to our apartment, I can't complain about that. We have a 1 bedroom / 1 bathroom, with a little balcony. We also have room for our TV which is a good size. I've had to put in a couple maintenance requests and they will come. Sometimes it's very quick, and sometimes you have to wait a little. The longest I've personally had to wait was a couple hours. There aren't many amenities offered, but they do have a bus. So, once a week (if you're quick enough) you can sign up for an hour long scenery drive and they usually take about 12 people - but that's all they really have.

Depends which floor you live on

Depends which floor you live on for quality of care. My mother does not live on the most expensive floor. My mother's care has been inadequate. Have to constantly followup for all aspects of her care. Staff do bare minimum as far as her daily care. Unable to track who cared for her on a specific date because they rotate staff so much. The carpet in her space needs to be replaced, looks spotted soiled with dirt even though they have cleaned it. The decor throughout the building is attractive, but her personal space is basic and nothing to write home about. The water faucets in her space often stop working. She's not in memory care but I did see it on my tour. I was not impressed Very small space, they are crunched in the hallway during the day. There's a handful of staff spread out among the departments that go beyond and above basic care which would equate to their motto of excellence if most of their staff did the same.

Beware

We were so enthused about this place. It is terrible. Their protocols on COVID are terrible. They say they don’t let unvaccinated in dining room but they do. Their staff and some in administration, seem ill prepared and under educated for their jobs. I don’t ever write reviews for anyone or anything but this place is just one huge lawsuit waiting to happen.

My parent pays out of their pocket. You advertise gluten free food and yet it’s never available. Rent goes up but the care goes down. Dining staff is poorly trained, 1 housekeeper that is a wonderful gem..and she cleans the entire place herself. Staffing is terrible. Long waits for the food…over 45 minutes and the food is not palatable. There is no dietician on staff. Seniors don’t need sandwiches at every meal. They need real food with properly sized portions. My parent is definitely not getting what they pay for.

Not worth the premium

I moved my mother into the facility in May 2019 because I wanted her to have the absolute best care possible in what I thought was a 5-star establishment. What I experienced was much beneath my expectations. A month into her she was taken to the hospital for a UTI due to them not properly changing her and/or proper hydration. Many times I came to visit and she was soaked through. I had to organize a family council to get something as simple as a monthly newsletter. I was tired of constantly having to fight for my mother while paying top dollar and decided to move her elsewhere. When I brought her to her new home she looked so uncared for. Taking off her shows revealed that her toe nails hadn’t been clipped in what looked like a year. The caregivers are excellent at Monarch but they are overworked and understaffed. The best decision I ever made was to move her out to another facility that has exceeded all of my expectations.

This place is awful!

The way they did my carpet explains how this place is ran. They replace the carpet and they used two different pads. Half of it has a nice pad while the other half has a cheap thin pad. So basically they half-assed it and that's how they do everything around here! The walls are so thin you hear everything that goes on in your neighbor's apartment, so you never really get to live by yourself.

my review of Carmel Place

In my opinion, this is not an independent living community, It is more like an assisted living or nursing home community. They do not have any staff available after 7 pm. I would not recommend this community to others for independent living to anyone.

Go somewhere else

I would tell others to watch out for them to increase the prices. That happened to us within the first two weeks of being here. Also for a full service place, they were not able to meet the needs of my mother who had Alzheimers which should not have been a big deal for them. I would not recommend to others who are looking.

Not enough staff to do the job

Please look into how they cannot keep any staff. Once they see what it's like behind those doors they quit. Just had four quit recently.one med aid and one worker for over forty people. please tell me I'm mistaken . I would like someone to look into it.

Very Poor

I would not even consider it here. The care was really bad. It wasn't satisfactory at all. I would not recommend it for anybody. They just weren't taking care of my loved one. She was only there a short time and ended up breaking her hand. I had to take her out of there as quickly as possible.

Could use improvement

We are very frustrated with the care these residents are receiving. The for value it is not the care you would except. Sometimes the food is okay, and they do have activities going on in the memory care unit, but there just seems to be a lack of help and proper caregivers.

Nightmare at The Garden Club

The front door isn't locked until 7:30 or so, and the staff leaves at or before 7. So anybody could come in during that 30 minute period. And that also means your loved one is there with no help. If there was an incident, they would have to call 911. The food was just horrible. The cereal was stale. The bacon was raw. The food was inedible 80% of the time. There were sandwiches for dinner every night. I don't even know how they could make it so bad. The staff appeared to be nice at first, but they did not like us. They would greet others and ignore us. They didn't clean our apartment for five months. The common spaces were clean, but they did not clean our apartment. The residents were amazing, the staff was sketchy. I don't even have words for the director. They did make an effort with activities, they were just poorly executed, like hallway bingo that we couldn't hear . They started not giving dessert, started having portions of her meal missing, like the meat, or part of the vegetables. When we addressed it with The Garden Club, they said she was lying and that they were going to start taking pictures of it. They were gaslighting her. Everything she had a concern about, they told her it was all in her head. They told her she was mean to the other residents, and she is not a mean person. They wouldn't change the bed linens, and then my loved one injured her ribs trying to do it herself. We knew the vaccines were coming, and every time we would ask, they would say we don't know when, we don't know. Come to find out, they were making a list of residents who were interested, but closed the list before we could be added. The director threatened to call the police on us if we did not leave the property. The mind games were out of control. If I wasn't there to witness how they treated my loved one, I would probably think she was making things up or blowing it out of proportion. But I saw it. I was there, and it was awful. Living there was an absolute nightmare. And I don't know what we did to upset them or make them want to treat us so poorly. The director made fun of an illness and injury I had. After speaking with him, my loved one would come out of the room sobbing, and that's not like her. They treated her like a child. Every time we questioned the staff, they would all swear up and down they didn't know what was going on. There was only one person who would look at the floor and nod her head, and go out of her way to help us. The amount of Covid cases there was insane. There were ambulances coming in and out of that place all the time. It was just very unnerving to see all that.

Horrible customer service

My dad was transferred to FVV from the hospital. He needed of rehab, a service they advertise. They do not offer physical therapy other than getting a person out of bed once a day. We arranged for him to be transferred to another facility. The case manager was asked numerous times by the insurance company to send records for approval. It took 1.5 weeks for FVV to send them. It stated my dad could get up and down with a “light touch”, a lie. The insurance company denied the claim and ordered him released from FVV. My dad cannot get up without assistance and is only able to walk a few steps with a walker, making it difficult for my 77 year old mom. The case manager was suppose to find my dad in-home rehab. It’s been almost a week and nothing. I have left a message with The facility director, but she also doesn’t care about the residents either because she hasn’t called back. If they would have done their jobs, my dad would have gotten the help he needed to return to lunassisted life.
