Honestly, I think this facility is very antiquated. The building was built many years ago, maybe the 70s, you could tell the carpet was worn out, and I don’t think they’ve had the opportunity to update anything since then. One thing I wasn’t really excited about was the refrigerator in the apartment. It’s like a mini fridge you’d find in a hotel and it’s set on the floor. For seniors, I don’t think it’s good for them to get that low and it didn’t feel very safe. I asked if they had plans to update the fridge or anything in the kitchen and they said no because they didn’t have the funding but that we could bring our own table to set the fridge on. I didn’t feel like that was an appropriate answer. The decks outside had rails that weren’t safe and you couldn’t even walk around the outside because there was no sidewalk and a lot of the bricks were out of place because of the roots from the trees. The blocks weren’t leveled and it was just a huge safety hazard. The manager was very nice and the residents were friendly, but this place really needs to be brought into the 21st century. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone unless it’s updated.

I went on a tour here and the staff was nice and answered all of my questions. There was an overwhelming smell of air freshener or chemicals to cover up the smell. The walls were painted stark white and you can see all the dirt and handprints on the walls. It was on the expensive side. We went into the memory care unit and had to immediately leave because of the smell. The dining room tables were covered in plastic for as much money as one would pay they should have cloth table covers. And they had no common areas. The apartments had just a dorm size fridge that was really low for an elderly person would have a hard time using I think.

They run out of food

This facility is not what they lead us to believe. The man that gave us our tour is just a salesman. He kept promising us things that the facility wasn’t back him up on. I had to hound the management for two weeks to get my Mother her pendant for emergency calls. This facility is not what I expected. In the beginning it was an okay place but by the end of week two, it just went downhill. We are actually getting ready to move her out. I have also noticed that a lot of residents are also moving out soon. It’s just poor management and the staff members are rude. Also, a lot of the time the kitchen is running out of food. This isn’t the place for my mom. I would not recommend.

Brookdale at Sonoma, Food service manager[Removed] doesn't know what is she doing when it becomes to treat her employees right.. I am a kitchen manager with many years of experience and I was looking for a place for both of my parents and she was yelling at her employees like if they were animals, putting them down because she said to have a degree and she said that they don't know how to do their job!! Incredible!!... bottom line as a manager you have to teach how they suppose to do their job!! I wouldn't like to have my parents treated like that or even my kids.. This Brookdale is situated in a really nice area and it looks wonderful. You can tell that all the employees work super hard to get the job done. I just wish that the kitchen manager was a little bit more human when it becomes to managing her team, school don't teach you that!

Never go here

I would never recommend this place to anyone everyone is rude and not friendly at all I met with a lady named [Removed] who is the director of nursing she was very rude breath smelled like alcohol and she looked high like she was off something how can someone like that have a job working in a place like this. I have reported this several times but i guess they don't care or have any type of policy for employees. I met a women named [Removed] who was very very nice and helpful they the only ones who seemed like they knew what they were talking about . Please folks don't take your love ones to this facility especially on the second floor you will regret it.

Money is their main concern.

Money is the bottom line here and they raise it when they want. They have nothing to do with my care here. They need more compassionate people. If I fall I'm expected to get up myself. It is too expensive and my children are looking for another place for me. Lots of other residents are doing the same.

I couldn't run out of this community fast enough when I toured. The community was clean but didn't have a friendly atmosphere. The activities were infantile and only included options like BINGO. The staff was friendly during the tour but they usually are when you visit. I ended up choosing another community in the area.

Profits over human caring

This independent senior living facility has recently discontinued having an able-bodied adult or even a security guard on the premises after early evening and overnight. The "corporate story" is that the approximately 115 residents in their 80's 90's and over 100 will be safer because they now have alarms that they wear around their necks (already reported as uncomfortable and annoying) that also have to be charged daily in an age group that is not technically savvy. Incidentally the alarm system was not given out until after the managers were already sent to new apartments outside the facility. No manager lives on site any more. The police and fire fighters will be contacted directly for any problem overnight. I imagine High Point public servants have busy schedules without becoming night supervisors at a senior living facility. These residents have a high incidence of hearing or visual impairment and many are on walkers or wheelchairs. A fire or flood or intruder could create a disaster I wouldn't wish on anyone. Even unoccupied office buildings have overnight security guards. They also let the chefs go in favor or pre-prepared meals and reduced the activities director to half time. She is now answering phones during activities. Sounds like profit over decency. Which is predictable with their 6% rent increase in the midst of all this.

The head nurse at the Atrium, [Removed], is extremely rude to both staff and family members. She pretty much runs the show, so sadly most staff members are very unhappy working there and there is a high turnover of employees. I moved my father out after a short stay.Perhaps the Atrium would be a better place if she were not there. Unfortunately, corporate does not seem to care either and as a result I do not recommend the Atrium under any circumstances. I believe that the head nurse of an assisted living facility should be more caring and do what is best to make the residents and their families as comfortable as possible. I absolutely do not recommend The Atrium...it looks good on the outside but it is way below average on the inside.

During our tour, we felt like we were getting a hard sell. There was to much emphasis on selling the community rather than focusing on our loved one.

Was not impressed by the management .

The most unfriendly staff, [Removed] the manager , no personality, was not impressed by this place . The hallways were dusty , not vacuumed , the dinning room staff were young and not experienced . I have seen much better places .

Lack Of Care

We have not had a good experience here at this community. They are not able to provide the level of care my mother needs. They advertise that they provide assisted living, but this more like an independent living community. The care givers are inexperience, and insufficient. The management skills are poor. This community needs improvement.

No longer a quality care facility

Since this new company took over, the place is not clean, smells, understaffed, residents are no longer well cared for, they have constant staff turnover. I overhear staff complain that they have worked double & triple shifts. This place is very expensive. Where's all the money going? My advice, if you love the person you have in care, look elsewhere.

Memory Care

Do not put your loved one in the memory care unit, Legacy Court at Atrium Village. They are the "Forgotten People." There are very few activities for the residents. All they do is sit around all day doing nothing....such a waste. The general manager wants nothing to do with this unit and spends as little time and money as possible to make it a better place. He only concentrates on the independent living side of the building. The unit is dark and dingy and quite depressing. I moved my mother out after several unexcused falls and a rapid decline both physically and mentally. She is now in a new facility with good care and plenty of activities and is much happier! If you care about your loved one, please go elsewhere!

Problems at the Bellingham

Our mother spent two months living at the Bellingham at Orchard, starting in late December 2015. She came in under difficult personal circumstances, and because of that she was not cooperative in helping the employees maintain her daily hygiene. We appreciated the Bellingham taking her in under that situation and understood that her behavior would be challenging. However, after the first month our mother’s behavior improved, but the staff was still unable to provide an adequate level of personal care. When we came to visit our mother her room was frequently dirty, with the bed not being made and the floor having food on it. Our mother frequently looked disheveled. Her clothing was often covered with old food stains, even though there was daily laundry service. While we authorized our mother to be given a haircut as needed so that she would look less unkempt, her hair and general appearance continued to deteriorate. Twice we found our mother sitting in the dining room in short sleeves, shivering, and left to herself. We often found her wearing no socks, even during cold weather. We also often found her sitting alone, balanced precariously in her walker, in a place where no one could observe her (e.g., stuck in her bathroom where she might not have been found until the next meal). Based on experiences such as these, we moved our mother to an adult family home, where she is receiving much better care at a significantly lower cost. Also, based on our experience, we could not recommend the Bellingham.
