A Place for Mom has scored Civitas Senior Living with 8.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 323 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Civitas Senior Living has 899 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.1 out of 5.
I loved the facility, however it is clearly for completely independent people or completely dependent with nothing in between. My recommendation was Country Place because it did have 3 varying levels of care that I felt fit the needs of my Brother and wife more adequately. However, my nephew who has no experience with senior care is the decision maker. The turn off for me on day one was the person showing us immediately, without meeting them said they needed to be in memory care. My Sister and I both said they were not that bad at this time. However, she was able to convince my nephew of that so that is where they are. He was told that once in memory care they could never go back to assisted living. This was supposed to be a DADS rule. DADS says No, that is not true. So they are in memory care and recently my Sister in law has been very confused. She has had UTI off and on. I would like to encourage them to drink more water. I find every facility fails in that area. They need to be reminded to drink water and water should be cold. I drank a cup there and it was warmer than room temp! it's memory care, so remind them to drink water and cold water is better. Also my Brother is diabetic and is being fed sweets. Why? He has never liked poultry, but I go and see him staring at a chicken salad sandwich and chicken broth soup...are there no choices????? I see a delicious hamburger in the serving area...for staff????? They are very high paying residents and deserve to have needs considered, especially dietary needs.

Assisted Living section was ok. It was when we moved to the Memory Care section when serious concerns began. She was transferred to Memory Care due to frequent falls, not serious dementia. As she stayed in Memory Care she began a significant change in cognition and mental state. Staff appeared that they just wanted patients to be quiet and not be a problem. I have no proof other than what Psychiatrist at hospital stated when my Mom had to be admitted for 10 days due to Psychosis from being overly medicated. Once the Psychiatrist was able to reduce the number of medications in her system she was more like herself before she went into Memory Care section. Her dementia and cognition had greatly improved. We decided to move her out of Cambridge Court. She is doing very well at her new facility.

Staff seems to care but there is a lot of leadership turnover. I've heard the staff comment that leadership only cares about getting rooms filled and don't care about people.

I lived there 8 months and moved out. There were 4 Directors in that time. Staff are constantly quitting. I would go 3-4 weeks without my room being cleaned. They lost so many of my clothes I started doing my own laundry. I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. Another bad experience was bill paying. The first month I wrote them a check and that same day I signed up to have my payment drafted from my checking account in the future. The next day, they took out about 1 1/2 times the monthly bill even though I had just paid it. When I alerted them about the mistake, instead of refunding the money, they kept it and used my money without paying me any interest. I asked for it back several times and they never returned my money. I think they are very dishonest.

I've been a resident here for just 5 months. I wouldn't recommend this place to friends or family. Meals are included in rent but food not great! 1 of the 2 elevators has been out of order for a few months. Emergency pull cord call system is only partially working. Windows are FILTHY!!! My carpet is OLD and filthy. The parking lot has had the same potholes since I got here on [date removed] (no driveway repairs yet). My only positive comment is that the dining room staff is great, friendly, and courteous.

A lot of repeated unkept promises. ED says they're rutting out bad employees, but not getting reinforcements very quickly; thusly, services plummeting. In my estimation, to few Caregivers for the number of residents needing assistance!!!!! Several of us are wheelchair bound. Mgmt expects residents to accept status quo. We're not getting the level of care that we're paying for now, much less now being issued an increase in our fee for care plan & for 2nd person in apt!!!!Menu's & cooking recipes from corporate not designed for an aged population.

The overall experience is not good at all. The cleanliness is fair and the staff are very friendly but the quality of care is terrible. Our loved one won't participate in the activities. The value for cost would be very good if everything else wasn't such garbage and if they ever did what they promised they were going to do. This has been a most frustrating experience. This is the fourth executive Director that we've had at this place. each one of them, promise that they will get our complaints handled ...they agree they are not as they should be. They are always excuses and so far they haven't achieved any of them

The experience was good for the first month, beautiful facility, but too many negatives for the cost. Too many staff turnovers in less than 6 months (from the executive director , wellness director, business office and care staff). Charged for level 3 care that was rarely received. Food was brought to the room with additional daily charges added when asked to take the client to the dining room instead. Room not cleaned on a regular basis. Medications given inappropriately without medication education. Having to install a camera to make sure care was done properly and still wasn't done appropriately, and a lot more issues. we gave a lot of leeway and a lot of promises were made to us, but never kept. Executive director agreed that her staff was not the best or up to par on client care. Again a beautiful facility, but very poor client care, very disappointing considering the cost.

The facility is not up to operating staff. Both numbers and training. The food service is horrible. There is a lot of turnover and long wait times for food. Not to mention the selection of food options is not good at all!! At this point, I would not recommend Harvest of Aledo. If and when they get things corrected, then I might have a change of opinion.

A good facility but lack of staff in memory care. Short staff caused staff to work doubles & effective & efficient care was not always provided. Also pay by monthly check not direct draft as my father passed away on the [date removed] of the prior month & on the [date removed] of the next month they automatically drafted a payment & took almost 60 days to return the payment.

My loved one is no longer at this community, and was having a hard time adjusting. The facility was nice. I picked this community because, It was very clean, nice and they said that they had activities. It was okay the first few days, and my loved one was very unhappy. The aides were nice and kept my loved ones room clean. I would not recommend to other families. The director never returned any of my phone calls.

The place other then my parents room was clean. The room was not kept clean. The staff was friendly but a few of them didn't always tell me the truth. My parents went without some of their medications for several days. This happened numerous times. I was visiting one time when they attempted to give my dad my moms medication. My mom was given some other clients Imodium when mom was complaining of nausea. She had chronic constipation so this was wrong on numerous levels. A week of their Laundry was lost, never to be found. I took over doing their laundry after that. The meals were very good in the first few months then that too seemed to decline also. They would run out of things and the quality wasn't the same. My parents did not participate in the activities so I can not give a rating. Mom passed in June and I brought my dad to live with me. This was our second facility and pray I don't have to put my dad in another place. Very dissatisfied. After mom died I gave the 30 day notice the next day. I assumed I would have that time to remove all of their things. Within two weeks they wanted to get someone else in there. They asked if they could move the remaining things that I hadn't gotten to yet. I was told we would get a refund which we never received.

My loved ones room was not too clean but the community seemed to be clean. Some of the nursing staff were not nic. The food was sometimes too spicy. My loved one enjoyed some of the activities, such as music and games. It was very expensive and I feel I did not receive the level of care that was expected. It was a beautiful faclity. The staff can be very nice. Be sure to, keep a close eye on the staff, and your loved one as well. My loved ones clothes, sometimes were not returned after being washed, for almost a week, and clothes were missing. In addition, my loved one did not always receive medication.

I would tell others to stay away. I love the facility and the layout, but they cannot hold staff and are always understaffed. The ones who are there are overworked. One staff member worked six days last week, three of which were double shifts, and she is just exhausted. Several of the staff have been very friendly, but not the people in the office. They're on their third chef now. The first one started out pretty good. The second one was very mediocre. And the new chef starts today, so we'll see how that goes. Activities were a little better around Christmas time, but I think they lost their activities director shortly thereafter, and there have been zero activities since - which is especially disappointing in memory care. They're also on their third director since July.

Our family had an in person tour and the facility is brand new which was great, but we could hardly see anything going on. We saw no activities, or no activity schedule. We were not told us anything they do for the residents outside of the community like day trips. The people giving us the tour was nice but newer so they had no idea how to answer our questions. It just seemed very unorganized and unprepared.

My loved one was in The Cottage (memory care). While the majority of the staff was good, [name removed] who provided activities was awesome! However, the upper admin/management do not know how to run the facility. They need to train the staff on how to take care of residents with dementia. They need to make sure all the cameras are in working order. They do not make it easy on the family members. There should be a no cell phone policy while working. I got tired of seeing staff on facebook. Glad we found a much better place that has experience with dementia and work with the residents, instead of against. Also, they talk about chef prepared meals. There were many "chefs" that quit while our loved one was there. Not to mention eating on styrofoam. We understand with COVID, but this was ongoing. Getting things in order start with the management. It shouldn't be that difficult. People are in positions that know nothing about memory care or how to handle staff.
