I want my mom in a place where she is receives the best care.

The activities are bingo, a couple games, there were some outings. She’s keeping busy. They provided activities. Mother said the food was good, the choices were good. I toured the place when she moved in. After she moved in they didn’t provide internet service. I felt the fees paid should have included internet. I want my mom in a place where she is receives the best care.

Care expectations that we were initially promised were not followed through upon until my siblings met with the management team. They seem to be improving after the meeting, but we will need to continue to check in to make sure my mom is getting the care she needs.

Do your research for your loved one

Read the recent county/state survey. The place is new and shiny but everything that glitters is not gold. Compared to other facilities, the price is attractive but you get what you pay for in the end. Overall, okay place but if you are concerned about nursing skills, dig deep and do your research (those surveys). Not sure that memory care floor is beneficial for more mild or moderate residents in regards to restoring independence and confidence. Very quiet atmosphere with little interaction and participation in activities. Many of the scheduled activities never happen and the caregivers do not actively round up residents. If the residents show up, fine, but people with dementia need prodding and cues. Activites on the assisted living floors are more lively even though some of those residents appear to have some cognitive issues more so than the residents on the memory care unit. Some of the AL residents probably need to moved upstairs and some of the memory care residents probably should be in AL. Thorough assesments by the nursing staff would determine that but that is another issue. You will need to advocate for your loved one and not rely on the "professionals" or simply look elsewhere.

We had been working with them to move Mom in after a rehab stay, but they decided at the last minute that she required more care than they were able to provide, due to a reason that I'm sure had already been discussed when we were placing her. This cancellation at the 11th hour created quite the emergency, and we feel it could have been handled better. The community itself looked nice enough, but we never moved Mom in.

Not as nice a setting as River Walk at The Hebrew Home for the Aged, and more expensive but, unlike River Walk, it had 2BR units and in general its apartments were materially larger. Riverdale location an important plus.

Lots of ups and downs over the time since opening. Many changes in leadership and RN's? Caregivers on weekends and off shifts need more support. Need more training in memory care on how to deal with roaming residents, going into others rooms. it is a beautiful place and the caregiving staff does their best but in memory care could use more leadership on weekends and evenings to model for and support the staff. Excellent concierge support

We had a nice tour of this community. The main issue that disappointed us, was the pet deposit. They wanted and additional 1,200 dollars for her cat. My sister loves her cat very much. I thought that was kind of ridiculous for a pet deposit. It was a nice tour, but not the community for my sister and her cat.

Mixed experience

Well-appointed, lots of activities, good food. Daytime staff is generally well-trained and polite. Night and weekend staff is not as well-trained and poorly informed. Communication among shifts, services and administration is very poor, particularly in regard to health care. Calls to health care administration are ignored. Be careful and check in frequently on different shifts to be sure doctors' instructions are followed. Call buttons given to patients go unattended at times. Cost is high for the care given, and we had to hire additional outside help to meet needs making the cost double what we expected.

Get all they tell you during your tour and signing in writing.

We searched for an Assisted Living over a 3 month period and thought The Park of Plainfield would be a good fit for a good value. One thing we have learned; get everything in writing. We were promised 2 move in promotions and then all that changed when they both weren't listed on our final worksheet. We were also told our rent would be at this price for a year. Now, we hear its going up $200 and we have only been here a few months! Read everything and make sure it's in writing! Also, our monthly bill has not been correct one month since moving in! Again, more work in checking and calling and trying to talk to someone to correct problems and undo late fees. The Activities Staff are very nice and try to include all. The food and wait staff are all very helpful and go out of their way to assist folks. The Park is an OK place just don't have anything go wrong and get everything they tell you in writing.

Brookdale Vernon Hills

We did move my mother-in-law into Brookdale. Unfortunately it was not the right fit for her. We were disappointed in a few facets of her time there. Brookdale, on the other hand, was not sufficiently staffed to help in memory care level 1 and asked us to find a new place that could handle our needs 2.5 months after she moved in. Less than a month after she moved in, my mother-in-law fell and broke her hip on their watch. It took us pushing for her to go to the hospital, four days after the fall. I would not recommend Brookdale for folks who are not in independent living.

Would not recommend.

They are veery short staffed, especially memory care. That is a big problem. Not a good value for the money. Actually I think these places should screen their potential clients first to assess what level of care is needed. And better communications with the family.

Review for Huntington Place

Administration changed over twice with no notification and new Administration did not adjust well. The facility itself was nice and the staff were super friendly and helpful. But looking back they were not able to give my mom the care she needed and I should've moved her to a different facility. The person in charge of the books had a curt approach to speaking with me after mom died and said I had 8 days to get her stuff out. A positive. [name removed] at the welcome desk was phenomenal and was so good to my mom.

Review for Ciel of Princeton

It is a lovely place but there are many additional charges some of which are excessive and/or unreasonable and the atmosphere is not really welcoming in the memory care unit. They could fix it if they tried with better staff and more empathy. I think that the assisted living part is probably fine, the memory care group is more needy and deserves a kinder approach.
