Checked out Brookdale Vernon Hills Vernon Hills IL several times---each time a different day of the week and was left with a very comfortable feeling. Also got good feedback about it from other persons who either had someone there already or knew about it. The indoor atrium is relaxing and well cared for. Yes there is the cost factor---but if you make a comparison between what you pay on your own on the outside, and what you pay for here---it pretty well balances out. DOES NOT HAVE AN INSTITUTIONAL FEELING ABOUT IT---FEELS MORE LIKE AN UPSCALE HOTEL.

We liked this community. The staff were nice and answering our questions. The community was clean and maintained. The community is clean and beautiful. We liked the menu and would recommend this community to other families for good care and a value.

Professional in all regards. Visited several times--had lunch and tour--was so impressed--became a résident myself.

My loved one's stay at Brookdale is going great! This is one of the best facilities I have ever seen! The building is well maintained. The staff is sure to cater to my loved one's needs and requests. They offer a good selection of food, and my loved one has plenty of opportunities to participate in activities. This Brookdale location is the best!

Lovely people! Everyone working there was so pleasant and seemed so happy. Was just the perfect environment for my mom.

I used to work in a similar Independsnt Living facility and knew what to expect "from the inside". My parents are enjoying the Meridian. The residents and staff are very friendly and welcoming. It is a big life change, as they have also given up driving their own car and rely on the van transportation, which includes waiting on both ends and the loss of instant freedom to go where they want when they want. However, they agree it is for the good. There are plenty of stores, doctors and all services available within the 5 mile transportation area. Their main complaint was that the food was so good when they moved in, but their chef quit (lots of kitchen turnover in the last year according to residents), and now Meridian has chosen to get by without a chef and have the regular staff do the cooking. I have found the meals acceptable, but not as good as before. This is a common complaint at ANY facility like this. (The kitchen staff work like dogs and aren't paid that much, so many chefs often move on.) The building is safe, clean and beautiful. There are interesting activities and entertainment; more than they can even participate in. The handyman fixes everything in a timely fashion and the staff is very responsive, kind, patient and helpful. I would highly recommend this place if your parents aren't thriving any longer. They will eat better, get more exercise and human interaction, as well as become part of a community instead of becoming more isolated. It is expensive, but was one of the more affordable in my area. Sometimes you can negotiate on price. Good luck, and ask for a free 2 night trial stay! I had my parents do a trial stay 10 years ago and it took the fear out of the move for them. FYI-This is a popular place, and you most likely will be on a waiting list.

I saw nothing wrong or bad during the tour experience. I didn't pick them because it was more about the fact, it is an assisted living community. My mom s not ready for assistance. We felt like she would be more better served in an independent community.

My Mom, a recent Widow, just moved into 5 Star 2 weeks ago. The Move-in Coordinator was fantastic and helped her move in which included assigning staff to assist in hanging pictures, disposing of boxes and securing storage space for her Christmas decorations. Quickly she was oriented to the physical plant, given a tour of the library, beauty salon, gift store and also given her mailbox key and she learned about all the services available to her. The cleaning staff came on that first Monday and did a great job on cleaning the apartment including vacuuming, dusting, cleaning the bathroom and kitchen and laundering her towels and sheets. They change her sheets weekly. She was assigned to a group of residents at dinner so she didn't feel so alone and her granddaughter stayed with her the first few nights. Although she's 90 years old within days she seems at home after living in Florida for over 40 years. Now she goes to Thai Chi class every day and has already experienced pet day where they bring in a few dogs to interact with the residents. Moving to New York from Florida she was required to change her HMO. There is a physician who actually has an office in the building who accepts HMO's so we quickly changed her insurance so that she wouldn't have a coverage issue. There are also a few local pharmacies that deliver. As the weeks go on she will experience with other residents, grocery shopping and going out to local stores with the available 5 Star transportation. Although all her meals are served in the dining room, and are really delicious and nutritious, she has order pizza and Chinese food from local restaurants (which were great) on those days when her granddaughter stays over! She is now waiting for her 91st. Birthday in April when the residence have one big party on the last day of the month and celebrate everyone who has a Birthday in April, and together with the staff they have surf & turf.

We like the care at this community. A clean community that we are happy to see. The menu is good and she is happy with the variety of. They have a lot of activities. We are happy with a .this community and we would recommend other families here for good care. The staff is really and outstanding.

It's too early to tell if they can improve but so far I am very happy here and things are going well. I had one meal I didn't care for that much but the other meals have been good.

I like this community for the outstanding care that is given here. The community is clean and my sister likes the nice staff who are attentive. She is enjoying the activities and seems to be please with the meals that are offered. We would recommend other families to this nice place for the care of a family member.

Love this community and feel pretty comfortable with the care and facilities. The campus is beautiful and all the ammenties are fantastic and new. Decor within is cozy and modern. Room that are available for our short stay are quite small. However we could move up to next size should one become available.

The tour went great and the staff was wonderful. This is a very nice community and they have 3 levels so it is pretty big. They answered all of our questions and showed us around most of the building. I just felt that as mom progressed that there prices would change. We wanted to have a set price.

I am nothing but pleased with the care my mom is receiving at Brookdale Olney. Her care needs have increased significantly over the time that she has lived there, and the staff have changed things to meet those needs. I am always contacted about changes with my mom by the nurses and I feel that they know her very well. My family has made some wonderful memories here and the staff always invite us to special events and activities. The rehab department has some great staff as well. Everyone we have come across has been caring and compassionate. This place has been a blessing for mom.

The food at this community is good and the staff are friendly. They offer daily activities and they keep the community clean. This community is on a walking path and I would recommend it.

I don't live near my sister, but from what I have heard things are going well for her in this community. The staff is treating her well and keeping her safe. The meals provided she says are good and the place is always kept very clean. She is happy so far and so am I.

The staff has been great here. Everything is excellent and I like it here. The food is excellent and no complaints. They keep this place spic and span all the time. I like that they have a lot of things to do for the residents.

It was a ruff start at first for my grandmother with her move to this community, but now everything has gotten better. She is doing great, and they are caring for her very well. There are plenty of activities available to keep her active, and her brain stimulated. They even have a hairdresser onsite. The staff is great. She is pleased with the meals, and they have a great selection of food too choose from. The memory care portion is very safe and secure. Her move here as provided me with a peace of mind knowing she is being cared for well. I would recommend this community, it is great place.

This is a beautiful place and the staff are really caring and understanding. They have so much for the residents to do and have fun. I like that the community is always clean and never any funny smells. The food is okay and my loved one has no complaints. We love it here.

Lovely residence, lots of community space, rates are reasonable, offer different levels of care, lots of transportation, and outings Location may not work for our family member but otherwise would be perfect
