they really care

They really do care about the patients. Unfortinately it has not quite worked out for us. Dad recently got sent out of HarborChase of Plainfield and back to a psych ward because it turns out that they are not adequately equipped and prepped to handle his temper tantrums and things that go along with dementia.

Lots of ups and downs over the time since opening. Many changes in leadership and RN's? Caregivers on weekends and off shifts need more support. Need more training in memory care on how to deal with roaming residents, going into others rooms. it is a beautiful place and the caregiving staff does their best but in memory care could use more leadership on weekends and evenings to model for and support the staff. Excellent concierge support

Get all they tell you during your tour and signing in writing.

We searched for an Assisted Living over a 3 month period and thought The Park of Plainfield would be a good fit for a good value. One thing we have learned; get everything in writing. We were promised 2 move in promotions and then all that changed when they both weren't listed on our final worksheet. We were also told our rent would be at this price for a year. Now, we hear its going up $200 and we have only been here a few months! Read everything and make sure it's in writing! Also, our monthly bill has not been correct one month since moving in! Again, more work in checking and calling and trying to talk to someone to correct problems and undo late fees. The Activities Staff are very nice and try to include all. The food and wait staff are all very helpful and go out of their way to assist folks. The Park is an OK place just don't have anything go wrong and get everything they tell you in writing.

Review for Ciel of Princeton

It is a lovely place but there are many additional charges some of which are excessive and/or unreasonable and the atmosphere is not really welcoming in the memory care unit. They could fix it if they tried with better staff and more empathy. I think that the assisted living part is probably fine, the memory care group is more needy and deserves a kinder approach.

Lacks Solid Communication

It was a lovely community until director change. It was excellent until the changes. They can improve by, going back to the attentive care they had before. Not returning phone calls when there's concerns is a solid no for me to recommend them again.

Poor Experience

This place was recommended by PFM and it's been difficult since day 1. The move in-never even cleaned the apartment, lots of promises never kept. Pressured to commit. Lost our Moms bed & gave it to another patient (placed it in a storage somewhere and could not find it). The food was good but they have lost the entire staff since March. New director is MIA all the time. She started Oct, been on three vacations so far. Was not present during severe cold when residents lost heat. Provided old space heaters that had no safety trigger. No food service and no heat for three days. Entire staff we knew has quit. Agency nurses run the place and while head of nursing is nice, she is overwhelmed. Food selection is nil. Mother has COVID, they did not deliver breakfast until 11 am after we bothered them several times and it was cold. Cost is high for poor care, no heat and limited food choices. We have tried to work with them but they cannot deliver. Front staff nice but overwhelmed.

Needs Improvement

The staff are not good at managing medications accurately. The communication is poor between staff members. They don't/haven't been able to coordinate rides to doctors visits for residents which was told could be done. The meals do not include vegetables. They were just taken over by a new company however the facility is beautiful and has a lot of potential but they just need some major improvements.

Marketing Materials and Looks are Deceiving!!

Facility is understaffed, rooms are dirty, food is greasy & sub-standard, patient care is inadequate, even tho there are few residents., maybe 1/3 full at best. Needed repairs to apartments are overlooked, still waiting for a broken wheelchair to be replaced (it's been weeks), large staff turnover, including recent termination of the Executive Director. Harbor Chase offers many "amenities" on paper & gives a flashy first impression. It is also one of the most expensive facilities in the area. However, the care of its residents should be its top priority, & that is lacking. The existing staff are friendly & are as helpful as they can be, given that like most organizations today they are severely under-staffed.As a new fancy high-end facility, Harbor Chase may be a victim of the times, but thus far it has been a huge disappointment. My loved one deserves better & needs 24/7 care, & should probably be in Memory Care, but is in Assisted Living, partly due to difficult family dynamics.

Lack of care and attention

I would not recommend this facility to anyone who wants their loved one to be well taken care of. The lack of care and attention to the cleanliness of the residents is appalling. They provide the excuse of not giving residents showers by saying that the resident refused to have a shower, but they won't spend the time to convince the resident that they need the care. I agree with a previous reviewer that there are many times that I have been there when the "caretaker" are busy looking at their phones instead of tending to residents (and the "reason" that they are looking at instructions for other residents doesn't ring true). Obviously, the caretakers have been told that a resident says "no" to a care task, that the caretaker doesn't need to do that. A resident with Alzheimers will not know what they need, so it should be up to the caretaker to talk them into taking a shower, putting on clean clothes, etc. I am looking into other options to move my loved one to another facility.

No longer 5 star

Unfortunately the formerly great Bella Visita has gone downhill under new (Beztak) management. Meals are mediocre at best and not available 7 to 7 as advertised. Anytime they switch to box lunches, the box lunches are absolutely horrible. If residents want fresh fruit they have to purchase it on their own. Long waits for service in the dining room. Not enough drivers or transportation for medical appointments. Most of the staff is very extremely friendly and helpful. Apartments are nice sized & clean. Some of the design changes in the remodeling are not elderly friendly. No one in the chain of management seems know the basics about elderly needs. Complaints to management are ignored, even when family members call on behalf of a loved one.

We left this community!!

The caregivers were no good at this community. My mom was bullied by a couple of them. The dining room was closed when they moved in and the date it was to reopen kept changing. Mom moved into independent living and they said they would accommodate her, however there were times when they did not have care available. They were to put grab bars in her room and this was never completed. I would not recommend this community.

Service and Safety Concerns

I am appalled at the lack of responsiveness on the part of the staff. We ask for information and rarely get any reply. The place is an apartment that provides food, distributes meds and has opportunities for some residents. If there is a need for medical attention or information on what is available for our loved one, there is no interest in helping us with that basic information, let alone help us understand and figure out how to solve problems within the context of assisted living. I wonder how they keep their accreditation as safety of residents is being compromised.
