We are happy with this community

The staff are taking good care of my brother. The food is good and healthy. The community is well taken care of. They do offer daily activities. This community reminds me of a hotel and not an assisted living community. I would recommend this community.

One Very Happy Mom

My mother resisted the idea of assisted living. She couldn't be happier at Somerset Gardens. She loves the staff and the facility, enjoys all of the activities and feels very well taken care of. She is even going to exercise class something she never did before!

my opinion

I found the residence to be very clean, appropriately quiet and very well lit. There are more than enough windows to the outside world as well as good interior lighting. The residents apprear to be quite content as they go about their daily routines.

Our family's experience

I think the care would probably be better for someone other than my mom who really needs constant supervision. They do cluster care which isn't really adequate for my mom who needs 24 hour supervision. However, from what I've observed, everything is really good there. They have an advanced care license so they have nurses in the building and services such as physical therapy occupational therapy speech therapy visiting doctors all in house.

Review for The Chelsea at Washington Township

Facilities are very nice. My mom is in memory care, the memory care wing is just as nice as the regular assisted living. Alzheimers patients are able to keep their dignity and autonomy by coming and going as they please, while living in a safe, clean, spacious, well layed out (not to get lost) closed in environment, that even has a patio. The staff are all very nice. My only complaint is communication. I often have to send multiple emails to nursing or the memory care coordinator before getting a response.

Some good, some great, some middle of the road

It was okay. Residents will tell you the food takes forever and is often cold. Staff does care about people, but some people are not so kind. Some people are exceptional. Mom had a few favorites. Place was kept clean and nice. Good activities. Mom left after 3 weeks as it was too much going on and it wasn't the right fit for her. They tried their best, but my mom also didn't want to ask for help or pay for the help she needed.

Overall, the experience was good. Our guide was friendly and professional, answered our questions, showed us the facility, and gave us a run-down on basic costs, and additional ones. The other staff we met were friendly also. The Chelsea was clean and well taken care of. The Independent Building is separate, and except for an area for the continental breakfast and happy hour, one has to go to the other building (for dining, movies, medical, etc.). Small library and work-out room. Good medical coverage on site. Our guide could only show us a one-bedroom, and they only have six two-bedroom apartments, which are in high demand. There were some issues regarding the layout. The bedroom was small, and we would want a king-sized or twin beds. The kitchen was larger than we needed, and it seemed there was wasted space between the main room and the kitchen. There is no outdoor area in which to walk and sit. The site is in a downtown, which offers the ability to walk to some nearby stores.

Overall, would recommend

The staff was very nice, but a little short staffed on the weekends. My Mom had a smaller room on the third floor , by choice, because she would not use her walker. She never used her pendant ( call bell) and she started to spend the majority of her time in the room, even eating in her room 1-2 meals a day... she didnt want to join in activities... although the staff really encouraged her. In retrospect, she needed more supervision; we didn't realize she was starting to have symptoms of dementia. The food was very good.

The facilities is beautiful. The staff is lovely. The activities are horrible. They're basically aren't much of anything to do there and it's so small that all you end up doing is eating and going back to your room certainly not a place I would live.

Review for The Chelsea at Brookhaven

I am not the resident - my boyfriend is. I can just say that he is happy at the Chelsea, but there is very little to do. He stopped playing Bingo because he said it got too expensive for him. He goes to the Happy Hour every day and he likes that. That's it. They have some group activities (he does the exercise on Mondays), but is very disappointed that there is an art room, but no kind of instruction to learn an art activity, so he never uses the room. He's very artistic and should be going there! He's happy with the food, and even though he's very shy, he's made a couple of friends.

The walk through was nice. The staff was nice. There was no noticeable orders. It is on our list of consideration. We would be interested in the studio because of the cost plus medicine management. Also they will transition to Medicaid if the need arises. Because it is an older building it’s not as bright or open as the newer ones, but the neighbor looks good if Ingrid wanted to walk outside.

The Chelsea at Washington Township

Beautiful new facility. Love the layout of the memory care wing - It is just as nice as the assisted living side, and it gives memory care patients some independence while in a safe, supervised setting. I've looked at many other facilities where the memory care conditions were horrible - small area where the residents just sat around all day, supervised treated with no respect or dignity

This facility checked all the boxes. Staff was very courteous and friendly. All the residents we met seemed very happy to be there. The one bedroom partment layout was impressive and looked to be very functional. The only concern I had was that there was no emergency call buttons or pull cords in the apartments.

Mom has no regrets

I'm pleased based upon the ease of managing mom's arrival meeting w staff getting mom acclimated. Staff cares! Mom finds The food is hit and miss as she has food allergies. a resident council and food council meet monthly intended to meet residents needs. Mom finds the activities engaging. Of course there are more women than men so there are always people to chat with. The staff does a good job of keeping things clean. Mom has a room in what I call a suite with another woman and shared bathroom and minimal kitchen space. This can be challenging for both to navigate bathroom time as old ladies spend a lot of time in the bathroom. In general the place is cheerful mom's happy with her decision.
