Misleading and Understaffed

I strongly recommend that any new family who is considering placing your love one in this facility to do your due diligence. I thought I asked the right questions at the time and felt that this would be a great fit for my dad and was provided assurance that his needs would be met. I asked about ratio to staff and resident. Their response was quite misleading because the staff is grossly understaffed. Within two weeks of him being there, his care level allegedly increased and my family was asked to pay more for additional care that he never received. We brought in two additional outside aides to the facility to offset his care. He arrived at the facility wound free, but within three months he developed over a dozen pressure sores. He transitioned to hospice and was given a 30 day discharge notice because his care needs became too great despite developing the wounds in the facility and hospice was treating the wounds. Just wanted to make you aware to highly consider your your choice.

Poor management and staffing

This has been the biggest mistake I have made moving in and trusting Charter Senior Living. We have lived at Charter for 14 months and looking to move this spring. We live in one of the cottages, and it's been nothing but problems on top of problems for 14 months. The management doesn't care and will straight out lie to you. We moved into a brand new unit and it took 3 months to work out all the problems with it. Just right before Christmas our neighbor flooded out our place with sewer water for the second time. The first remediation company they hired was a joke, and half cleaned up the mess. The manager had them to clean the sewer soaked nasty carpet that smells. The second time around they took out all our plank flooring and wood baseboard trim two days before Christmas. Our cottage smelled and 4 weeks later it's still not been repaired and our place is in disarray. They talk a good story but don't come close to backing it up. Their management/staff dishonest and lazy.

Review for Charter Senior Living of Hermitage

Our family's experience here was very difficult. Even with extra support, our loved one did not receive the level of safety and care we expected. The outcome was heartbreaking, and we feel that the most basic responsibility-to keep residents safe-was not met. Families considering this place should ask direct questions and look beyond appearances.

Poor and outrageously priced

My rating for Charter Senior Living is a 1. They are definitely not for the residents, food is getting worse from what I am told and they laid off the good Activity person they had who did a good job of taking residents out in the bus every Monday and Friday and also doing crafts with the residents and kept the Director of Activities that all she does are the decorations, also the only thing Corporate wants is how much more of the residents money they can take in January when they increase their rent. Mines went up by [amount removed]

If I could put a zero for this community I would. They lie to you to make it sound like a great place then as soon as they have your loved one in there they start to turn your loved one against you and you end up in court over a bunch of nonsense that isn't the case. Charter sucks! Do not send anyone there they are horrible!!!!!!!!!

not the right fit for our needs

We did not like the level of care provided by the nursing staff in the short period of time we were there. After finding a better fit for my grandmother, we found that there were many things we didn't like about RoW but didn't know any better when we friend picked it. While the grounds are beautiful and eye catching we found that not to be the case when you actually get a room. Unfortunately my grandmother had to leave for a short time to get her meds adjusted and when we got back a few weeks later her bed was still unmade and her bathroom was gross from others using it. We were under the impression no one would be in her room and linens would be washed once a week but that simply was not the case. We also realized having the nurses station around the corner and the nurses staying at their station rather than up and walking around was not a great fit for my grandmother's needs! The patients would just come and go out if my grandmothers room and their was an incident between my grandmother and another patient where no one could tell us what happened. No one was around or could see where it happened from the nurses station. We also noticed small things missing from her room when we went to pack her up. All replaceable toiletries items but still missing nonetheless. I personally would not recommend anyone use that specific home for dementia patients or memory cause but maybe the assisted living portion is great?

Not recommended

There were a few staff members that made it livable. The administration was AWFUL! It changed hands multiple times and they were never present. They sent a bill for dates in February after my MIL had passed on [date removed]. Medication took over 3 weeks and they made my FIL use their pharmacy out of state. I would not recommend this place for anyone.

Not appropriate for residents who need enhanced care

The building is nice, clean and provides able-bodied residents who do not have any physical limitations the freedom to roam. Large outdoor walking, dining and activity space for good weather days. Caring staff could greatly benefit from specific training on how to care for patients with dementia and how to assist residents who need assistance with transfers and mobility issues. There were not enough front line staff to assist residents with transfers which caused many problems. Staff was caring and devoted to their work but many were not trained to work with residents who have dementia and mobility challenges. Staff ratio to residents only allows minimal interaction with residents. If a resident is able to get themselves to the activities, the activity director is great but she doesn’t have any assistance so there are not nearly as many activities as advertised or listed on the calendar and staffing at the activities is bare. Charter has potential but needs more and well trained staff

Don't do it

Best thing going for this place is the smallness and one level. They do not monitor what they eat. Residents are given a menu in the morning to pick for tomorrow. Do not have a diabetic or congestive heart failure choices. Management - where to I begin. Just do not do it - go elsewhere. They want your business but not the task of educating the resident and family members how things work. Noone is really sure what the left hand or right hand is doing. On my moms move in day she had to be there at 1pm - not sure why. I thought there would be a tour or briefing or something - nothing - just verbal welcome and come have some lunch. If you do decide to go here DO NOT DO OUR MEDICINCE THRU NAUTILUS!!!!!! If your loved one comes home it is not a flip of the switch like [name removed], executive director makes it out to be. Is a nightmare and noone at charter knows the protocol and noone wants to accept responsibility for their error. Seems to be a ongoing problem.

Horrible Experience

The TV room, furniture and carpet where the Residents live smell of urine. I would spray the furniture with Lysol and the carpet with Febreze. They never shampoo or vacuum their carpet, nor do they clean their furniture. Very short staffed. The Residents are not toileted, as I witnessed them and my mother soaked and smelling of urine. I washed my mother's laundry but her clothes kept coming up missing although her closet was locked. I took my complaints to management and they were never addressed! To keep my Mom from walking around so much and risk for falls, they increased her meds and confined her to a Broda chair. Lastly, they recommended that my mother be placed on Hospice to make their job easier. "To get extra help" It got much worse after that. Unbeknownst to me, my Mom was overly medicated. Slept all day. Her pm Seroquel was increased and she was given Xanax without my knowledge. Once I moved her out, I got my Mom back. She is alert, she walks, talks, uses the toilet.

Only the dining staff are kind and professional, as was the woman in charge of submitting their insurance claims. The PT company that operates independently within the same facility is also great. Very professional and compassionate. But overall, no, I would not recommend Charter.

Although the facility was lovely, we did not have a good experience with the administration staff. We were told we would have a clean freshly painted room and clean carpet by a certain date. We had furniture delivered and the room was not ready and the money was not going to be returned. Just a difficult situation for us and for them as they were losing staff. We went to another facility that we are extremely pleased with.

Raise the Standard

There are a few great caregivers at Charter Senior Living. However, this place is one big health crisis. Just this year alone, they have had a bed bugs and scabies outbreak. If you didn't already know, scabies is a parasite that embeds itself in your skin and leads to an unbearable amount of itching. Residents hardly ever leave the facility and unfortunately most family do not visit enough, so these issues are most likely coming from the worker(s). They do not clean and or deep clean this building nearly enough- there's a very distinct smell. Many patients are not receiving the minimum level of care that they are paying for and the food is disgusting, small portions too. Every resident at Charter pays for a certain level of care. For example if they are at a level two, a caretaker may help them take a shower. This can be costly and sometimes the residents are not even receiving the level of care that they are paying for. The meals are poor quality even for an institutionalized place.

Under staffed facility

It's just a business to the owners. All this stuff about caring for your loved one is just a bunch of BS. Very under staffed facility that has problems with residents falling, hurting themselves and being stuck in wheelchair for long periods of time. Actually witnessed several falls with injuries while visiting. Stay away from this place!!

Has room for improvement would be misleading- AVOID DOING BUSINESS HERE WOULD BE ACCURATE!

As a summary we had to leave this facility due to numerous problems and deficiencies and ultimately called the State Department of Health in regards to our experience. Cedar Hurst was ultimately fined over numerous violations. In addition to the above I have to mention that the policies of Cedarhurst were basically propaganda in their brochure and were not followed when we exited our agreement with them.

Extremely under staffed. Many residence have fallen and been severely injured.

Extremely short staffed and they just don't seem to care. Watched several residences fall and have major injuries due to no supervision. I would stay away from here for your loved ones . The management dies not care about your loved ones, they only care about the amount of money they can receive. Unfortunate but that is how it is at the cottages.

Be aware, it's a Horrible Place

That this place the Staff literally hides from you! They don't speak to anyone. They do not make any eye contact either. When you make an appointment with the staff about a complaint they try to avoid you at all costs! Making you wait & wait! Then tell you "Oh, it was your parent who didn't want in her room to clean or change the bedding! Do not fall for the Smooth talking ladies who get you in the door! Go talk to some of the Residents at breakfast or at any meal. That is where you can really find out about the staff. Especially when other non-resident people are there visiting their family or friend! Ask way more questions than you think is necessary! Get everything in Writing as well. It's better now because we have taken our Mom out of that place! Dirty, gross disgusting hard as rock food & they over charged her as well. Nope, they refused to give her the money back!. Please please do not let any place there parent in that place! They treat their residents HORRIBLY
