The ratio for any community should be considered. The larger ones have a ratio that is unacceptable especially in the memory care. Just remember in memory care the personal care should be #1 priority not fun and games! I feel Cedarhurst did have the priority of personal care above other things. The larger communities do not carry or practice this.

The staff is helpful. The food is good, they bring in different entertainment.

Following a stroke and other health issues, my husband and I decided that it was time for more help with his health care needs. After research and consultation/communication with A Place for Mom, we decided to move him into Cedarhurst of Edison Lakes. Overall, it has been a positive experience. The facility was helpful with the move and he is getting good care. It is definitely an adjustment to the new chapter in life.

There seems to be a real issue with keeping help. There's a massive turnover in the kitchen and with cleaning people. I'm sure they aren't paid well, but this problem has caused concern with residents.

Staff is very friendly, meals are good, building and grounds are well taken care of, several activities each day for residents to participate in. The only reason I gave a 4 instead of a 5 is because we had to ask multiple times for a few things to be done in the apartment that had been approved prior to moving in.

I ended up going with Cedarhurst for my sister. It is very expensive but was one of two places that were nice, not dirty and didn't treat their "memory care patients " as second class citizens. My sister will end up in a memory care unit within a few years. Cedarhurst and a place in Plainfield were the best places by far. The one in Plainfield was less expensive but it was an hour from our house. Hopefully we can keep my sister at Cedarhurst in Yorkville, the cost is more than she planned for. I'm hopeful that things will continue to go in the right direction.

From the first tour, the staff was attentive to our needs and really listened to our concerns. In addition to having 24 hour staff to assist Mom with her daily tasks, they have social activities for the residents every day. Mom isn't isolated anymore like she was in her house. Another deciding factor was that she could bring her cat with her. There is a monthly charge for that, but Mom wouldn't have agreed to move if she couldn't take her cat. They have daily morning devotions (optional) which Mom participates in. We feel that Cedar Creek is caring for Mom in both body and soul. Mom is walking more now, both inside & out. She is also sleeping better, since she's no longer afraid of being alone. They also have physical therapists on site. We would highly recommend this facility.

It's a nice facility and they should tour it to see for themselves. The staff is very nice and helpful.

Director and staff are excellent! Facility is clean and my Moms 1 bedroom is spacious, comfortable and gets great light! The only reason I didn't give them a 5 is the food. It's very low quality and poor. The presentation and taste are often subpar.

Thank you for getting to know our dad and treating him with kindness and understanding especially on his tough days. You help us have piece of mind knowing that he is reported and cared for.

Well, they were really good about staying connected until I signed the contract. Now, I need to ask them questions and the administrative staff ignore my calls or texts. [name removed] has only been there full time for 2 weeks and there's a definite 180 on communication. Front desk and staff in memory care, CNAs are great. I get more information from them. [name removed] gave me the tour and will say hello and is very nice when I see her. You will always need to be the advocate for your family though and stay on top of things!!

Very nice, clean facility. I was admittedly disappointed about the care and assistance provided. The services required, seemed to escalate rapidly (as did the billing for same), but rarely were performed as per the care plan.

We have had a unique situation where we are in another state. Communication has been challenging. We recently visited our loved one in the facility and the staff was very friendly and attentive.

It's a beautiful place. My Mother loves her apartment. She has met so many friends, loves all of the activities and keeps very busy. The only complaint she communicates to us is the food. Quality and prep are poor. She cannot cut the meat because it's tough and all they have are butter knives.

I would recommend Cedarhurst of Topeka. My husband was in the memory care unit and I felt the quality of care suffered a little because of staff turnover. The staff was very nice while they were there but there seemed to be new faces every few weeks. That did begin to change before my husband was no longer there. My husband also had Hospice and they did part of his care. The memory care unit was very nice. When you walked in it was very light, lots of windows and the sun was shining in. The tables all had flowers on them which made the room very pretty. The Activity Director had things for the people to do if they wanted to participate. The Home would occasionally have entertainment programs and I think my husband enjoyed those. It was a new facility and was a very nice place to live

I’ve only been living here about a month. I have found it is a quite clean place for assisted living assistance. Most of the helpers are very helpful when called. Several turn overs makes it difficult to remember names of the helpers. Menus are usually posted but sometimes they’re not making it difficult to know if you need to change your personal menu.
