We have had a unique situation where we are in another state. Communication has been challenging. We recently visited our loved one in the facility and the staff was very friendly and attentive.

The staff are excellent and the facility is great. Yes, we would recommend the community to other families based on the experience we have had so far.

It's a beautiful place. My Mother loves her apartment. She has met so many friends, loves all of the activities and keeps very busy. The only complaint she communicates to us is the food. Quality and prep are poor. She cannot cut the meat because it's tough and all they have are butter knives.

I would recommend Cedarhurst of Topeka. My husband was in the memory care unit and I felt the quality of care suffered a little because of staff turnover. The staff was very nice while they were there but there seemed to be new faces every few weeks. That did begin to change before my husband was no longer there. My husband also had Hospice and they did part of his care. The memory care unit was very nice. When you walked in it was very light, lots of windows and the sun was shining in. The tables all had flowers on them which made the room very pretty. The Activity Director had things for the people to do if they wanted to participate. The Home would occasionally have entertainment programs and I think my husband enjoyed those. It was a new facility and was a very nice place to live

I’ve only been living here about a month. I have found it is a quite clean place for assisted living assistance. Most of the helpers are very helpful when called. Several turn overs makes it difficult to remember names of the helpers. Menus are usually posted but sometimes they’re not making it difficult to know if you need to change your personal menu.

The facility is clean and well maintained. None of the residents have ever told me they had to wait long for something to be repaired or replaced. The kitchen staff do good work and are quite cooperative. Whenever they prepare a meal that a resident does not like, they offer alternatives. There is no reason a resident should skip a meal.

I would tell others to just be open with them about your needs and feelings. I would recommend Cedarhurst of Oakwood to others looking.

It is a lovely facility and they have loads of activities if the resident wants to join in. Always clean and staff and management are friendly and helpful. Only complaint is that the food is sometimes not up to expectations. Meat is too tough or food is just not as expected or described. One of our reasons for choosing the facility over others that were less expensive is that food was supposed to be available anytime from 7am to 7pm. But it is difficult to get served out of the normal hours meal times.

The staff is very friendly. They could improve on having a better system or procedures or staff to help new residence transition. That kind of change is very difficult for seniors especially if they felt as if it was their only option. And I feel all of the senior communities not just Cedarhurst need to have a strategic plan with check ins as they adjust

I think the facility would be great if you need minimal to moderate nursing assistance. Unfortunately my MIL needs more assistance than most and we struggle with getting her the care she needs at times. During the evaluation process they had 2 different nursing staff go out to evaluate her and they thought she would be a good fit in their facility. But she has declined in the 2 months she has been there and now no longer can participate in the community events and activities which is ultimately why we chose Cedarhurst over other places. However, nursing has helped us and worked with us to change the care plan and get her the help she needs. Overall, a great place for the true assisted living senior, not for someone needing more than the average help.

There is no nurse on duty 24/7. The QMA's are not allowed to do much in regard to medical care. High turnover in nurses and maintenance staff. Overall the staff is very friendly!

Nice facility, close to where I live. Most staff are friendly. Things they could improve...more drink choices & ice in the glasses at meal time. Offer fresh ice water for residents morning & afternoon in their rooms. Less pasta & rice based meals. When salmon patties are served, they need to be hot, not cold out of the fridge. Mom would not eat this because it was not hot. I tasted the salmon & it was very tasty, but I did not care for it cold either. Mom says they don't vacuum her room often enough & never along the edges of the wall.

My dad was only in there one night, but they were very attentive and they were very kind when we arrived. The support staff was very good. I would highly recommend.

They have lots of activities available, clean comfortable apartments. Not much in the way of fresh food offered. Need more fresh veggies & fruit(not all canned or premade salad bags). More traditional meat, potato & vegetables meals needed. My mom doesn't feel like she's made a connection with the staff, friendly enough but doesn't feel much warmth from them.

There is a large turn around in staffing. The food service leaves something to be desired. They do have a lot of activities and the techs are really nice.

Physically the building and layout is very nice. With a few exceptions the staff are very friendly and good with the residents. The staff don't always pay sufficient attention to the specific needs of individual residents. An example: my wife wears hearing aids. I have asked numerous times that staff ensure they get recharged at night and then placed in my wife's ears the next morning. These instructions are rarely followed. There are other issues that I could list, this is but one example.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. However, there are a few things they said you get but wasn't the case unless you were in assisted living rather than independent. Such as the alert button. Apartment size is adequate. It would be nice if they had garbage disposals in the apartments. And provide soft drinks like soda and tea. There a one thing that is still concerning that you and resident facilities have told me to do to help with cost. That was to use Patriot Angels for VA funding. I signed the contract and paid the fee of almost [price removed]. But we have yet to get any funding. She moved in [date removed]. They submitted application [date removed] and final submission on [date removed]. But have not received anything and it's been over the 90 days. If it doesn't come through then we have to move her out. Which will be very disappointing and put ya in a predicament.

I think overall the staff is friendly and tries to accommodate requests. They try to know each resident and provide personalized care. It would be great to have more one on one care (better resident to staff ratio).

The staff are very helpful and answer all your questions so you can understand them. They are will to answer all questions even if you think not so good. They are there for your family member and family. Facility is very clean and so open and welcoming. From my father that's there he says he likes this place more than the place he was at before. He's not wanting to leave like before. Seems to always be happy.

The facility and resident apartments are beautiful and homey. they are often short staffed and struggle to provide the necessary individual attention to residents.
