Much to offer

The biggest adjustment for someone coming out of living in their own home is paying the monthly rent. $2-$3k + and if you don't use the amenities offered, that is costly. Be certain your loved one wants to "socialize", will eat the meals and take advantage of what is offered, including transportation if needed.

A nice place, with sub-par food

This is a beautiful community, it's clean, modern, and the apartments are nice looking and well maintained. The staff and residents are all very friendly and Mom has already made a few new friends. They have a few issues, however. The care itself is a bit disorganized and some of their activities will be cancelled on short notice. The biggest issue I have is the food. It is horrible. As much as we like everything else here the food has made us consider looking in to other options. They've hired a new chef recently, and Mom said things have improved a bit, but it is still not acceptable. The quality of the ingredients purchased by the community is the problem, not the preparation. It appears they do not buy fresh, despite the abundance of produce in our area and the ingredients appear cheap. If they could just do better with the food I wouldn't have any problem recommending this place to anyone.

My experience after one month.

Chantal was extremely helpful and has always been available to help me with issues. The facility is nice. The people working there are friendly. The techs always let me know how my mother is doing. The daily nurse is very helpful in explaining the disease process of Alzheimer's and watches over mom's care well. Overall I am pleased with the facility. I would like to see more supervision of the Memory Care residents. On two separate occasions, I have assisted wheelchair bound residents because there were no employees around. On both occasions the residents were in the television room with at least 6 residents present. It was during their afternoon TV time. More supervision would be my only request.

Heritage Springs

Things at Heritage changed dramatically after about three months. I had a severe muscle spasm and couldn’t walk for seven days. They brought food to my room, but no one ever came in to check on me or ask if I was okay. One caregiver brought a tray and said, “I can’t come into your room because you have cats and I’m allergic.” I explained that I couldn’t walk, which she already knew. That was the breaking point for me. The food quality also got worse over time. When I signed up, I was told there would be no rate increases for one year, but they increased everyone’s rates at around the six-month mark. One friend’s cost went up by $2,500 a month. He does need more care, but that still seemed excessive. There was also a lot of staff turnover, with many employees either quitting or being fired. Things really took a bad turn after the new management came in. I eventually moved to a different place, and many of the staff from Heritage have moved there too, which has been comforting because we already knew and trusted them.

Waterford Grand

The apartment and building in general is gorgeous. We have encountered some really good people. We feel like when she arrived we fell through the cracks. [name removed] was on vacation and there was no one there to help us transition mom. We did not know the protocol in general. Mom was upset and we were hoping to get some sort of sedative or antidepressants and learned that an order should have been placed well before she arrived as in a week before. So Mom was incredibly upset with no comfort except from her family who she was really pissed at. Anytime we need any kind of medication for her it was quite the ordeal and never quick. We do have her with another doctor now who will come see Mom instead of us needing to take her out. And that is working absolutely perfect. I think my biggest most important suggestion would be communication and perhaps some sort of a document telling the family what is needed to be in place before they ever bring their loved one.

Review for Waterford Grand

When works with the team for intake, they were very upfront about pricing, added costs, helping cover hotel costs for the move and so forth. I have been a little less pleased with the actual medical team. They have told me many different things, sent my gma to the ER without consent of POA, have been late on scoring her, and we have literally had billing issues EVERY month since placing. So that's been SUPER frustrating! Overall the place is clean and they do a good job of having lots of activities for the residents.

It was not a good fit for our family

If I had to do it all over again, I would go a different route. My father in law was a high maintenance resident, Spring Valley was not a good fit for his medical concerns. The staff was nice but they needed more employees.. the room was clean. The food was great but the attention that was needed was neglectful with the care we were paying for.

Good on Style - Only Fair on Substance

The overall environment is nice with outdoor areas, TV viewing rooms, libraries and courtyards. Most of the staff is friendly although a few of the caregivers have said a few questionable things. Don't care for how the staff is not good about getting [name removed] up and out of bed at a consistent time. I visited her one day and she was still in bed at 10:30 am when she's supposed to get up around 8 am. This was not an isolated incident and I've complained to them about this. I think this is still going on. Despite what in my view is a premium cost, they keep asking me to buy supplies (gloves and trash bags) which they go through very quickly. I expect better from a facility like this.

Our family's experience

We took mom out of [removed] because of costs so Arbor Village was the right price. Once at Arbor I think the food is decent, always warm or hot, where [removed] had a problem with that, normally lukewarm. Mom was assigned a room that I understood would have wheelchair access to the shower and after moving in was told that was not true. There was a threshold and was told that it could be removed...no it's all one piece. I'm hoping she's given a new room soon with no threshold. It's taken a while to get the caregivers on board with mom's hoyer lift. They have complained it's old and hard to pump. Well the wound nurse corrected that assumption by calling the facility where we purchased it. We were told it's a 2025 model. They wanted an electric hoyer, but insurance does not cover the cost and nothings wrong with what we purchased while at [removed]. The caregivers there had no problems. The caregivers show more enthusiasm now, after complaining, than when mom first moved in. I look for caregivers that actually care and that's hard to find, the ones that go beyond just the basics. Arbor Village uses their caregivers to also serve lunch. Once I was visiting and noticed mom's pants wet ( wears diapers) and we looked for help to change her, but was told no one was available because they were serving lunch, but they offered to bring lunch to mom even though she'd have to remain in the wet diaper until lunch was over. I complained and I hope things have changed. Mom had mentioned that her button, she wears around her neck, is worthless. Most times she goes to the nurses station to look for caregiver assistance.

Review for Arbor Village

The staff is good but the food could be much better. Room is fine, could be updated some, everything is old in her apartment.

Our experience was mixed

This facility could be great for some people, it just was not the right fit for my mom. The facility is small, so if your senior is very social and active there is not enough to do there. The bus was broken for the 6 months mom was there so they never went places. I would recommend Magnolia Grand for quiet people who do not need a lot of activity. Staff was very nice!

Not What I Expected

The staff were friendly. However his room wasn't kept clean, he wore the same clothes 3-4 days in a row. Although telling me his laundry was done, it was not. The chart said it had been washed but the full hamper told a different story. All of his electronics went missing and I had to replace two of the items. 2-3 weeks later I received a call that these things had been found. It seemed best to Find a more suitable arrangement.
