Bonaventure

My husband was there for 2.5 years. They never followed through with promised service improvements. The administration was very difficult to deal with. The food kept getting worse. Staff turnover was constant. There were never enough aides or techs and they were poorly trained. The outside and indoors looked beautiful, but underneath the shell- yuk. I finally decided that enough was enough and brought him home.

My sister and I were excited to have a lovely location for our 94 year old, recently widowed mom to live; however, as soon as we moved her into Oswego Place, our excitement changed to disappointment, irritation and disbelief. If Bonaventure's service is indicative of "retirement perfected" as it says on their website, then they have no idea how to meet the needs of their clientele. It took us about 2 months to get a nameplate for Mom's apartment and that was after we asked numerous times for it. Although our mom was supposed to get showers twice a week, it took them several weeks of hit & miss to get them scheduled. Caregivers are supposed to check in on the residents frequently - that doesn't happen consistently. Activities are minimal and it's not unusual for them to cancel an activity. Although activity calendars are supposed to be given out each month, they are late or non-existent. The facility was on lockdown for at least 5 days to deal with Norovirus in July. We were given minimal info & the residents had to stay in their rooms all day, even to eat. Turnover among management is high and trying to deal with the corporate office is impossible. They have never responded to my concerns even though I have contacted them. I'm so sorry for anyone who lives here, especially if they don't have someone advocating for them on a daily basis.

My mother has been there for a month or so. In that time, they have misplaced and not updated changes in her care plan three times. Had we not been there last night, we would not have realized she wasn't getting her evening tray. My mother has failed to thrive and progressively gotten worse since her admittance there. The sales manager was so nice before we moved her in. Now does not even acknowledge our presence. When asking my mother if she'd had dinner, the same woman hissed at me as she was walking by, that she had eaten. No hello. No acknowledgment. No anything. We feel we have made the worst decision placing her there. She is now in hospice and thus, will be receiving better care. My mother is not a numbers game, or a sales notch. She is our precious family member. We would move her, but we do not want to stress her anymore.

Two of my sisters and I visited this location. The location is great, and the facility is clean. The tour was not the best. We sat down to lunch first. We had the baked salmon with asparagus. First of all they were out of asparagus and the salmon was really dry. Which was okay because we did arrive to lunch late. The sales Rep was nice and personable but we found it odd that she did not ask anything about our mom. Every other place we went to knew her information and asked many questions. In fact I was looking forward to sharing the info with them so that we could focus our tour around her needs. I remember when I talked to her on the phone and she could not find the info. I thought no worries its a busy day for her. The things we did tell her went to the waste side because our sale rep was more interested in telling us about her and her issues which near the end of the tour I was getting a little irritated with. When asked a question she would justify her answers by telling us how terrible the other retirement centers were. I understand sharing the differences in your homes vs theirs but she was going a little too far. I think I may have asked if she had anything nice to say about them. I was pretty surprised when I asked her the price of the two bedrooms and she said they were pricey. I wasn’t sure if she was just assuming it would be pricey for my mom or just giving us her opinion. Even so as a sales rep why would you tell someone this. In addition she was not able to answer any questions about pricing, the time breakfast was served. She said things changed so much that she couldn’t keep up with it. Which was not a good feeling at all. If she could not answer a question she would tell us we would need to ask Nerissa these questions instead of getting the info for us. She talked more about herself and her attitude is not the best. She truly had something negative to say about every place we mentioned. No other community that we’ve visited did this. When we asked for comparison they would share why they were the better choice. I had to keep redirecting her to focus on the tour and why we were there. We also noted that she not once greeted the residents in the facility even when they walked by or came over to the table. I thought this to be odd. This is the type of interaction I would expect at a retirement home that has the sense of community and care she said they had. By the time we had an opportunity to talk with Nerrissa to get our questions answered we had all already decided that it was not a place for our mom. I’m truly hoping this was just an off day for Joy. I’m sure she is a wonderful person and has something great to offer but we just didn’t get it.

Since new Management came in the place ha really lost it's "WOW". All the wonderful, great staff that was so pleasant and happy were driven out, the place is quiet and deserted. No one is out and about anymore, everyone stays in their rooms. The Transportation is gone, the bands, chef prepared meals, dancing and fun outings are all gone. Please bring back what we all loved about Riverton. It's not a place I like to call home anymore.

Gibson creek was a nightmare. Document everything as they will "not remember" or staff attrition will conveniently disrupt any continuity for requests made prior to the transition. Just watch closely, should you decide to move your loved one here - particularly if they have higher level needs. Buyer beware is the best way to sum it up....

Two years of improper billing, poor food, sporadic care. This place is a revolving door of employees and you can't form a working relationship with any staff member before they disappear. My parent has been here 2 1/2 years. When we moved them in I had a bad feeling. I'm really sorry I didn't act on my instincts. It has drained us emotionally and physically trying to stay on top of the problems with this facility. If all care centers are like this one I'm afraid for all of us...especially the folks who have no one to advocate for them. (Hide)

Poor choice. They have been in non=compliance often.

They have mishandled serious situations. Very disappointed. Meals delivered hours late. Try 8:00pm. The time is different everyday. Not acceptable. Took 2 weeks to get med orders figured out by BV. Meanwhile my loved one did not have her blood pressure medicine for that duration from the day she moved in. They left her half undressed on night one. Left and said they would return soon. Hours later they returned. I know it's difficult to get good help but some of the issues were administrative. After my loved one fell they never contacted family. My Mom has poor hearing and didn't know what they said except that she asked staff call my brother. That should be routine for anyone who fell We never got a call and found out 2 days later. No staff or nurse examined her body after fall. The list goes on.

I would tell others not to bring their loved ones to this community. They treated my loved one badly. They only had 2 staff members for three floors. There was a lot of turnover and my loved one didn't get the assistance they needed after pressing the call button. They wouldn't clean the room of my loved one. The community didn't clean my loved one or their bed after . There were no activities. The food was not able to be chosen by my loved one due to health conditions. My loved one didn't get food for a few days because the staff didn't ask what my loved one wanted. We ended up feeding my loved one after a few days of not eating. The office staff wouldn't allow the family to follow up on the care that my loved one was not receiving. They kept cutting my family off when trying to ask questions and explain the situation, and then kicked them out.

Long story short my mother moved in when they opened and just was able to move out. The GM did not refund a security deposit, did not bill us partial rent when he rened it when we moved out, and did charge us rent after we moved out. He also held up our movers at the front door to make the move 4 x expensive.. and thats all just on the way out... The staff turns over every week as they dont pay enough and those that are there are often times in training even though we were told we had nursing staff to help in assisted living. The food was sooo bad we had to cook my mothers food and bring it to her as they required us to pay for food option when we moved from independant to assisted. The GM that is there now came back after several years as everyone else quit and he is continuing to run the place without the concern you would hope he would have for all those he is reposnsible for.. most all the things he promised us when we moved in proved to be false or only offered for a month or two and then changed. The main company has continually looked at it as a profit center vs a care center and as a result pays sooo low half the people there were not in a care position before coming to work there and even then.. even then the pay and treatment is soo bad they move on quickly leaving seniors not knowing who is coming to provide the "services" they think they are getting.. truly any place in Gresham is better than this one.. run away dont walk.

Do not send your family member here the woman that claims to Be the regional managers attire was completely inappropriate and her anger issues need to be corrected. The staff is negligent and does not follow Residents plan of care they did not check my grandfather’s depends hourly like they are supposed to they left my grandpa without his oxygen tank and unable to breathe. I’m disappointed and sickened and would hate to see anyone else’s family member be left it the care or lack there of at this facility.

I had an issue with the front desk being dishonest with me this morning, and expressed my concerns about how my mother was being treated. In addition, they moved both my mother and father to a different room today, and failed to notify me of this move. I can only imagine the stress that my parents are currently under. The Director called me and told me to never call the facility again, where my elderly parents are living, because I was rude to her staff. I calmly asked her if she would like to hear what happened from my side of the story, and she said that she did not care! I called back in order to speak with her supervisor, and she hung up on me! Apparently, one cannot express concerns about their loved ones without serious backlash!

My father lived there last year for a few months. We were assured before he moved in that the food was "great". The food was typically disgusting. An example is being served a cold hot dog on a stale bun. The staff never addresses the dining situation despite daily complaints by their clients. My dad is not the complaining type but he wanted to move out of this depressing facility.

The place is awful

I would never recommend this community to anyone. After 3 years of living there we finally moved my father out. The overall care level is ok but the management is awful. They regularly have no idea what is going on, they dont communicate to each other and they dont communicate or respond to family. The attitude of the management staff is rude and unhelpful. The living in conditions my father was in I would never wish upon anyone and the staff just allows it. They dont raise concerns to family members for help or address anything. While the property offers some nice amenities and has a good exterior appearance once you've been there beyond a visit its not a great place to think of family members living in.

Not good. After receiving what was probably a false narrative about another interested party in a room we were interested in we started paying a month early and paid the community fee ensure we had a place to care for her. After their nurse made their care level review they assured me that they could take care of her. She was there for a very short time. We had to move her out after only a week or two after she fell and broke her arm as they took an hour sometimes to respond for help. They also then said their transport bus could not get her to her doctors appointments after we had specifically discussed where he was before signing. After further battles with them the receptionist finally drove her. The nurse there continuously pressed her to get her kids to drive her to the doctor and why can’t we do more for her. We pay them to do this we we work or not able to help her. They pressed me to sign and pay before they could do the care level evaluation. I was promised that if they could not care for her they would refund the money. After giving them money the nurse of course said she would be fine with them. When she was sick at the time of her arrival there and she could go down to get food. They would forget to bring her food or we very late and would bring her very bad food. They lied about their response times and when I asked for documentation in response time I was not called back as promised. It was then we decided she would not go back there after leaving the hospital In summary my mother left there with a broken arm and without $7k for being there less than 2 weeks. They do not have enough staff to give the care contracted. Also after leaving the hospital for broken arm the place was locked down with flu epidemic. So another reason we had to keep her in long term care at a Medicare recovery house and not put her back.

On [date removed] my mother was prescribed nebulizer treatment four times daily for her COPD. She had a bad cough and her O2 levels were in the low 80s. I called Bonaventure on the [date removed] to verify that she was getting the treatments. They said their pharmacy—Omnicare—had sent the medication, but not the actual nebulizer and had also failed to inform Bonaventure that they don’t supply nebulizers. Apparently, it wasn’t important enough at Bonaventure to track down a machine until I called them on the [date removed], nearly a week after the order. I asked them what they were going to do about it and they finally called the Doctors Clinic and got an order to Lincare for a nebulizer to be delivered to Bonaventure. I would think Bonaventure’s head nurse would have seen the order and done whatever it took to get a nebulizer without waiting nearly a week. I realize that staff people are busy, but COPD is very serious. When an order for medication is received, I expect everyone involved in my mother’s care to scramble to get it to her. They reassured me she “might get some today, or maybe tomorrow.” Whatever. This sort of thing went on and on at Bonaventure. If you care about your friend or family member, DO NOT send them into this hell.
