Bickford Senior Living

Our experience with Bickford of Carmel was not a good one, overall. The facility itself seemed like a nice enough place, it was well kept and clean, and from what I saw it seemed like they did a good job with the food. However, I was not impressed with what I saw of the care and management staff. I think they could have been much more thorough when evaluating the needs of my loved one. They told us it would be a good fit for him, and then within a few days of him moving in they told us we'd need to hire 24 hour outside help for him. Based on our experience I'd advise families to really be sure their loved one is a good fit when looking into placement here.

They promise more than they can deliver. The food was fine. I think they could screen their staff better. The organization of the way the place was run was very lacking. I told them my needs to be in bed within an hour of giving her medication. They didn’t remove the medicine cart from the medicine room, so they go from the room to the resident’s room. They left my mom in a chair for a long period … I found the staff argumentative. I had trouble getting my mom out of Bickford… because there were no good places to get my mom out through a covered ext.

I removed my grandma from there because they weren't cleaning the room, they weren't cleaning the toilet out, everytime I went there I was doing the cleaning and when peopel would come to visit they had to call them to come in and clean because it was so bad. Cleaning was included in what I was paying daily and when I told them I was taking her out they didn't even talk to me, they didn't ask what was wrong or even wish me luck, I was very disatisfied with them.

I thought that was the worst place that we looked at. I found out later that they're not even medicaid eligable. If you run out of money they ship the person out again. When I brought that up to the sales guy he just said, well, we'll find them a nice place. I thought he was just overbearing. I was really turned off by the whole place. I thought it needed updating and I didn't see people enjoying any activities while I was there.

I recently moved my mom from here. We love the CNA’s and the staff. The Bickford corporate staffing and practices do allow for best care for the resident. They manage pennies not people. Wish the best.

this place is a joke. the administer is never there and when she is, she is locked behind her office. the head nurse is a joke. she has a very bad bedside manner and doesn't seem to know what she is doing. most the time the staff can't be bothered. I would stay as far away from here as you can. house keeping is horrible.

The outward appearance of the facility is lovely and "home like". The directors were very happy and helpful during the "sell". After a few months attention and care has weaned. Communication re. our parents health with the Director of Nursing is rare, dismissing and rude. Questions and concerns are arising daily with/by our parent regarding care with no answers by the director to ease the worry. The working staff has been kind and helpful. The activity director is wonderful, patient and encouraging to the residents.

This is a nice enough looking community, and the staff were all very friendly, but we ran into a few issues that made me call into question the quality of the care here. My loved one had an incident where she suffered a fall and nobody noticed she had dislocated her shoulder until a few days later. Her room was also at the end of a long hallway, and I feel like she got checked in on less than more conveniently located rooms. I also had some issues with the housekeeping, her bed was often made improperly, missing top sheets or the mattress cover, etc.

Rooms way too small, no closet space. No parking was available when we came for tour. Not for us at all.

We did not have a good experience with Bickford which caused us to transfer my dad to another facility after 2 months. Could not trust staff for his overall wellbeing: -Medical condition; had Bell's Palsy and no one contacted us. Thankfully it was not a stroke -Meals were not provided in his room as requested (thankfully I made sure he always had snacks in his apartment) I know many staff were fired when my dad left because things were happening to other clients as well.

Nice place but I didn't like how the price for a respite stay changed and then added fees and added time of which their marketer knew of my time frame for my mom's stay. Too bad it didn't work out. Pricing difference too between A Place For Mom quote and the facility quote. Bait and switch..????

We truly hoped this placement would work & did not make the decision to leave lightly. Unfortunately, we experienced repeated concerns involving missed medications, inconsistent medication timing, lack of medication supervision, missed meals, poor communication, & prolonged hygiene neglect. There was no shower support, my mom repeatedly went a month without cleaning. We requested a urine screen six times over several months, only for a UTI to finally be confirmed after visible blood was observed and outside testing was completed. She was skipped for multiple evening medications & medications were rarely supervised, simply left on the counter. The most difficult part was feeling like our concerns were continually minimized while our family was forced to monitor care ourselves through cameras and outside caregivers. In the end, for her health and safety, we felt we had no choice but to move her. No family should have to fight this hard for basic care, communication, and follow-thru.

understaffed, but they are always friendly. it is assisted living, they will tell you your person can stay in one of their apt./rooms but they don't check on them enough they say every 2 hours. they let us put in a camera but it's concerning to see your person waiting for help. also plan on supplying everything down to your own toilet paper. the room is empty like an apt. you supply furniture & everything you need. one nice thing little kitchen area with mini fridge & microwave set on countertop with cabinets & a single sink is great. closets with shelf. the maintenance man is super nice & helpful. everything is yes but if it's something they have to do be prepared to wait & wait. Are any of these places the best? this is a self pay place for 2 years before you can use medicaid, they will tell you VA monthly benefits are fine but I can't get them to fill out paperwork for my VA aid in attendance benefit. the food seems good & they feed my dad 3x a day. so far laundry has been done with no mishaps.

Worst place ever, office never calls you back. Drag their feet if your getting a refund. They don't pay their bills. Workers bring their kids to work. Caregivers get physical with residents. 4 housekeepers in 4 months. Executive director has the nurse do her dirty work. Residents elope and make it down the road. There isn't anything good about the place.

I had my mom here for assisted living in this facility a while ago and we have since moved on. While their facility is decent, maybe a little small, their staff and especially higher ups were extremely inconsiderate. Many of the times it was impossible to address concerns like staff letting residents stay soiled for hours or lack of attention with staff on their phone. It’s unclear who is in charge as leadership seems to always be changing and those who do respond do not seem to care nor provide us with any clear answers. I would be more forgiving if they simply took accountability and addressed our issues.

I was lied to .told that since my check for $[fee removed]was accepted I had a room still have not received repayment. And still need permanent housing This has put me in a very bad situation

If your loved one is in need of any rehab services I would not look at this facility. There is not enough staff to care for people who are in need of physical assistance. We had to hire round the clock caregivers to help care for my dad. Also: if your loved one transitions to hospice you should not stay there. They tried but they were not equipped to handle the situation.

We never got to move in. Paid [price removed], and then communication from them stopped. Could never get a move in date or contract. Director would not respond. Filed a complaint with the company and they said I would be refunded. It's been almost a year and I'm still waiting. They say they will get back to me and go months without communication again. Filed another complaint recently and was assured they will refund my money and it was marked urgent. That's was 2 weeks ago and haven't received it yet. Been fighting with them on this for almost a year now. The lack of communication there is the worse I've ever seen.

We had a terrible time with them. I filed a complaint with management. They did not give my dad all of his medication, so in abruptly stopping it, his behavior had a severe decline. Also, their communication was nonexistent. I could not get anyone to return my phone calls. We moved him out of there as soon as we were able to find an alternative. I have never experienced such a mismanagement and unprofessionalism. People should definitely be discouraged from trusting their loved ones to that facility. Also, after speaking with the person from Bickford who contacted me about my complaint, I received zero follow up. The only reason I did not file a complaint with the state was because the only facility I was able to get my dad transferred to quickly was another Bickford, and I was afraid they may not keep him if I started formal proceedings. Eventually the facility changed hands, so Bickford is no longer the owner, but I no longer have the emotional resources to dredge up that experience.

Dining Experience (Bread Basket) Meals were consistently understaffed and delayed, with residents waiting over 45 minutes to be served. Quality of food was not acceptable, falling short of expectations for a senior living community. The dining area was left uncleaned, creating an unpleasant environment for residents. Activities & Engagement Promised daily stimulating activities were lacking, leaving residents with limited opportunities for enrichment and socialization. Programs felt inconsistent and did not provide the variety or engagement expected for maintaining residents’ quality of life. Management & Leadership The director displayed a negative attitude and was not present on weekends, leaving families and staff without leadership support during critical times. Concerns raised by residents and families were often dismissed rather than addressed constructively.
