Bickford Senior Living

I originally selected Bickford because of the activities throughout the day. They were without an activity director for 10 weeks. It was horrible for the residents. It also seems like there is a constant aide turnover where I do not know the people who care for my mom. Currently, I would not recommend Bickford . I am still confident she is being cared for and that gives me peace of mind

The apartment is adequate but there is constant noise. Facility is clean. Staff - they don't seem to have dementia training which is disappointing. My Dad's biggest complaint is feeling treated like a child.

The place is well worn-out, the food tastes like I had in high school, the rooms are nice and the hallways are clean but carpets are worn-out. The staff is very kind but over worked.

Staff several are very caring which is why we stay but much turnover and poor training. Little communication between shifts, often not adequate numbers ie have to wait for someone to come back to answer a request for toileting or other, poor attention to nails, trimming and cleaning before and after meals since he finger feeds. Occ forget to put bib on Admin has poor communication with me, with staff, very poor in answering questions re meds, lost items which are many, family meetings, events Activities few observed but those were good. Few times came at time to observe and it didn't happen Food- inconsistent in providing mechanical soft with ground meat, ie lettuce salad, chunk meat, hamburger in bun Inconsistent in set up tray table, divided plates with elevated sides, provide spit cup Cleanliness he spits. Rarely clean walls, w/c, shoes, hat Laundry supposed to be separate for each resident but get other people's things and currently missing a flannel tied throw, spots don't get treated, on return clothes often thrown in closet other than hung or folded. Room is small and hard to move around. Also they had sprinkler problem this fall and it was 2 months before mess and drywall cleaned up. Entry to [removed name] needs some repair to door and frame.

The staff turn over is horrible and the caregivers lie about what they said they do and didn't do. We have cameras to check on what is and isn't going on. I won't have them there without cameras. If family needs a lot of support as ours does, they won't be getting it.

Rooms were great size but the finishing touches were off. Every room was not fully handicapped accessible. Staff was very nice and knowledgeable, but clearly overworked. If one nurse called in sick, they struggled. Time to respond was a continuous issue. Activities were great and they clearly cared about getting people involved. Dining was satisfactory, although my mom did indicate the meals felt slightly repetitive. The only real complaint for her 6 week stay was the lack of consistent transportation to and from doctor's appointments. They did work with us on price, which was very helpful and much appreciated for our family.

The only real problem is the food. They are working on it, but it varies. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. all else is great. I would recommend but I think there is a waiting list right now

Mom left Bickford in March because I was unhappy with the care she got there. Most of the staff were kind and trying to do their best but chronically understaffed and poor communication between shifts, admin and staff. Again, many staff members were awesome. Not enough of them to do the job properly.

you have to police the showers and sheets being changed or it doesn't get done but they still charge you for it. New executive director is very aloof and is very inefficient. Often short staffed. Memory Care staff does very little to engage the residents. Memory care attendant does nothing but complain about how hard everything is since she's in her 70's. She constantly leaves residents unattended due to her inability to perform the job. Corporate greed has set in. They now charge to take a meal tray to a residents room. They can track how often a resident does not eat in the dining room so they can charge you extra but can't seem to track if a resident gets their shower or sheets changed.

The facility was very nice and so were the staff and administrators. The administrators made move-in very easy for us; they were kind and supportive. The maintenance man, [name removed], was extremely helpful. The caregivers and nurses were generally great, and the facility's physician, [name removed], was exceptional. Communicating by phone with someone in MEMORY CARE was practically impossible. The staff in that program has a cell phone, but they rarely answer it. Additionally, there were NO activities provided for people in memory care. They have a gorgeous outdoor garden, but the residents were not allowed to go out there alone and no one took them out there. Such a shame!

Our experience didn't work out so well. Our dad was there right around three weeks before passing. He failed to thrive there, there was tension between their nursing staff and private nurses we hired - therefore care suffered -

There is a high turn over with staff and management. I would say be through. The people we spoke to prior to placing mother acted like used car salesman. They want to sell you on their product but they are not forthcoming with contact information. Management has changed 3 times in one year.

Friendly staff that creates a small community for their residents. The billing system needs some work. [name removed] is a rock star!

They are short staffed at the time being. Many agency nurses so no consistency. Overall staff is very nice and doing the best they can. New chef so menus are getting figured out. Many activities daily. Good parking. Secure in and out.

If my wife has an accident in her pants, the staff won't change her if she objects. There seems to be a high rate of turnover amongst the staff, and some of them do a lot of sitting around in the office as opposed to taking care of the residence, however the food looks quite good to me

The director messed up the monthly billing twice. Nice courtyard. Smaller size.

The strengths of the Bickford is the charming atmosphere, the friendliness of the care staff, the variety and abundance of activities. The weaknesses are the food if you are on a special diet and the care if you are living in the Assisted Living area and require a higher level of care. We experienced delays in response when my mom used her emergency button on a few occasions and her advanced care was poorly handled.

I was not happy with the faculty when my mom first got there they get her laundry and she never got her clothes back and I went and spent over $[name removed] for brand new clothes for her and they did not find her clothes or try to find them to be honest with you then when I came in there one day, my mom must've tried to use the bathroom and she had poop everywhere all over her face her hands her body nobody was there to clean her up and for the CNA's, there was one very nice CNA But the other ones nobody came to check on her for 23 hours at a time and all she did was stay in her room she never bothered nobody or anything. I believe Bickford it's only out for the money. I don't feel we got the quality that we were told we would get especially when we told them that my mom could not take care of herself anymore and they told me that it was no problem that they would take care of her instead my dad went there at 8 o'clock in the morning and sat there till four or five at night when I got off work just to make sure she was taken care of properly.

The administrative staff is great. The director is new to the position but she is really great and personable. Linda in the office is what I call the "face of Bickford". She is lovely and wonderful. [name removed] is the chef and again, amazing. [name removed] is the new nurse and she is outstanding. The aides are very difficult to rate. There is always a large turnover with the aides. I understand why as it's not an easy job. There are a few long time aides and they are just great and treat my dad well. There are a few things they could improve upon. My dad's bed could be changed more often and correctly. He could be showered more often. He usually has to ask multiple times. The activities director is very nice but could use some help doing different activities with the seniors. The med techs are very good.

My dad needed more care than assisted living could provide. That should have been identified that from the beginning. I think they just wanted to fill the bed/room. PCT and RN and head if nursing great. After you sign and pay they are slow to respond if at all - after first month still asking for lights in the closet to work .... waiting for new bulbs....
