They need more staff especially on the weekends

The staff members were very friendly, at times they did seem a little understaffed, but we really did like the place. Unfortunately our loved one was only there for about a week before having to go into the hospital, to no fault of the communities. They had a lot of activities going on for the residents, we were very impressed with the apartment, they were quite large for senior living. We actually want to move there when the time comes. Our only criticism we have, is we do think they should be a little more selective when it comes to the level of care of the residents they are moving in.

Adjusting to a new care environment

I've had some communication with the care staff. And I've been hainvg some issues with biling - I've sen things on the bill that wer enot on his care plan. They keep tellin gme that they're working on it. But they're not following through, or the refunds are not happening. We've had some outside home nursing that are providing services like showering assistance that Louisa Place then asks my loved one if he needs. And he's not aware which staff is asking and goes along with whoever is directing him. We're working on it with the main corporation for the company, and they said it's always difficult to get reufdns, but I'm not sure whyit wouls be that difficult. My loved one says he eats whatever they put in front of him, but tehey have made the offer that if there's osmething he wants to see on the enu . It seems pretty clean. THey do wash his sheets and his clothes. I'm a little worried about his bathroom area, but the water up here is really hard, so that could play a part. But geerally it loks very clean. With activities, maybe my loved one is a special circumstance since he's losing his vision and hearing, so he's not participaing because he can't see or hear things well enough. I've actually sent them a list of activities, and they are working on it. And they have a new activities director, but that just happened. I know things have been restricted due to Covid. My loved one is not a fan of the prizes for the games - so far it's just been candy. My loved one is pretty with it for his age, and the other residents Small facility, only about 20 peopl eright now, and of those 20, there's prbably only 2 other men,. I think that makes him feel isolated a little bit. There's some miscommunication with the care staff, nothing life threatening or anything. Just some issues with communication from management to tthe care staff to how that translates to actual care of the residents. For instance, they're supposed to watch my loved one take his medicine, because with his vision problems he could drop something and not know. My loved one says they're just asking him later in the day after he's already taken his meds. But they've told me he''s already taken them before they can get there. Just little things. And things are slowly getting ironed out. But the shower thing is getting frustrating for me.

The meals have been a bit of an issues, they are not the best. Sometimes they are very good and other times not so much, so there is no consistency. The residents at the facility are much older than our loved one so she is not really able to get involved with them. However, the communities value for cost is pretty affordable.

Our experience with Heron Place

We loved this facility at first when she first moved in, but then it went downhill. We loved that it is all on one level and it is a smaller community with less people. They also had a courtyard in the middle so it was nice especially for the rooms that looked out to it. The room sizes here seemed average compared to some others that we looked into, but they do have larger rooms. It did go downhill towards the end of our stay here. They did have a lot of turnover of staff at this facility and a couple of the directors left prior to covid and I saw things starting to diminish after that. Without going back in here and reevaluating the new staff, I am right in the middle of recommending to others.

Best place at the time!

Everywhere you go in the community it looks clean. The whole place has a very homey, hotel-like atmosphere. Staff is very friendly and seem to really care for my dad. The community wasn't entirely upfront about added costs, so our family is now baring the cost of some of his care and medications. Sometimes we do have to go into the community physically and discuss costs with them, which can be an inconvenience to our family. Care seems to be good for my father. With that said, however, they could be slightly more communicative. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the staff has been good about providing us with updates and providing tests to all the residents and staff. If someone starts showing symptoms, they seem quick to react and protect all members of the communities. Activities are fine for a lot of residents, however dad does not often choose to participate. When I have visited, I have seen other residents playing piano, singing, and participating in other games, which is great to see.

[Name removed] was very nice and friendly. She answered all our questions and provided great information. The apartment floor plans were nice size and maximize the room layout very well. The facility is one story which is nice for people who can’t walk up/ down stairs or do not like using elevators. I gave this 3 stars because the is a small and older facility with only 48 apartments on the property.

Very nice, only yr old facility. Studio[location removed], close to outside courtyard, would accommodate [name removed] well, dining room is distance, nice amenities. Rather large facility, no spend down option in ALF, memory unit next door has spend down option. Fairly close to family 15 mins. Fancy but not warm feeling, more independent living feel.

Lovely little place, with only about 40 residents. Much smaller than Mom is used to (I don't know if that's good or bad!) But the apartments are way too small. [name removed] was very helpful and I liked her a lot. But the small apartments and the distance from my home are definite obstacles for this place.

Not a very good experience so far

My family has not had a good experience with this community. First of all, the food is bad and even other people have said so. Secondly, most of the CNAs are really nice and the building is very nice and clean, but there’s one nursing assistant that’s been very nasty. We reported her because of a few instances where she made my loved one feel uncomfortable with the things she’s said. Even after reporting her, she has continued to be rude. She’s told my loved one horrible things and has laughed at her. There have been plenty of other people that have reported her and we’re really afraid that she might do something to hurt my loved one in retaliation. Other than the assistant, everyone else has been really nice and my loved one likes them. I’m hoping the facility does something about the assistant so my loved one can continue to live there.

When I was looking for a place for my dad, I took a tour of this facility was not impressed at all. I didn’t get a good vibe. I sensed a smell when I first walked in and I didn’t like the layout of the building because it can be pretty confusing. Every hall looks exactly the same and there’s no way to differentiate what part of the building that you’re at. When you’re having memory problems, you need something that’s able to be recognized and something stable. I ultimately chose a different facility.

Things Could Be Better

My sister really likes it here despite some major concerns we have. My sister from the first day she was there she met people and made friends and started doing activities they offered. Themaintenance staff is left to be desired it takes for 1 repair ticket which by the way is a minor thing 5 weeks to be done. There is only 1 housekeeper for the whole community so the cleaning is not being done properly. We are understanding she is told that she has to have a certain number of rooms done in a day but when you feel like you have to hire an outside company to come in and have it done properly there is something wrong. From what we can tell all the nursing staff has left there is no onsite nursing. Overall my sister likes the food once and awhile something won't be the greatest. I must say that there are quite a few residents here that have mentioned they have lived here a long time and they still enjoy it here.

I was initially going to have a tour of this community for my mother but when I had found out the price it was way out of our budget. Compared to a lot of the facilities around this place it was a lot higher in price and seemed to offer the same services.

Friendly director, but was unable to tour actual living areas. I am hoping to locate a facility with more outdoor space and community activity area. It remains on my list as I look at other locations. This site did offer many options for medical appointments, some options for shuttled shopping, etc.

Major adjustments!

Since my loved one moved into the White Cliffs, there have been some bumps in the road. My loved one was not being monitored correctly at first, but they have hired a new nurse that I'm sure will be a great asset to them. They have reworked my loved one's treatment plan. Also, during meal time, the kitchen crew will bring out the desert before the residents are done eating and they all push away their main course to eat the dessert. They should wait until after they are done eating before offering.

This community seemed dark as there was not a lot of sunlight coming into the community. The community seemed clean. I did not see a lot of activities when I visited. You could hear the sound of the traffic outside of one of the rooms we saw. I did not think this would work for us.
