Avalon Memory Care

My husband is doing much better at Avalon than at the place he was previously. He is eating better and the caregivers are very caring. They have lost their chef so their food is not as good as it was when he first moved in, but they are trying their best. No place is perfect. [Removed], the lady in charge of that building, is great. She treats the residents like gold. It has been a good experience.

I want to say how wonderful Avalon Memory Care was for our family. My father was at Avalon and in my heart I knew that our family placed our father in the right place. When our father was passing the workers came into his room to say goodbye to him, There were 2 workers that were not working that came to see him that night. The workers love their patients like family. I know that Dad was care for like family. Avalon Memory in Arlington was great and can be trusted.

My uncle has been in this facility for about a month now. His mental status has declined significantly which is a huge heartache for our family but the staff at Avalon has been kind and gracious. He is always well cared for!! They treat him with respect and kindness. We moved from another Skilled Nursing/Rehab facility that was not as organized or clean. This staff seems to take pride in their work and loves their patients.

Avalon has really been there for my family. The food is homemade. The staff is present and attentive. The director showed up to the hospital when my dad was sick (unrelated to Avalon) and stayed until all was well. My father does well here. It is low stress and relaxed. It does not feel institutionalized or like a mental ward. I am very pleased

The caregivers at Avalon are skilled and caring and have made my husband's transition from home as smooth as could be desired. The physical environment is cozy and comfortable and designed so that the staff constantly are aware of the resident's needs and comfort. The small size is helpful in creating a homey environment where no one is isolated or ignored.

The one problem I have is that they do not handle the laundry very well. They have lost a few of her clothes int he process, so things could be done more efficiently there. Other than that I have been very well pleased. The staff there is incredibly friendly and it is a very nice and clean facility.

My dad was only in there about 1.5 months before his passing. I had been caring for him about two years, and he really needed a little extra help than what I alone could provide. I found them to have a very friendly environment. Other people were with him at all times. He was always kept clean and very well kept. The staff knew about him personally. They were also very quick to help out any time there was something that needed attention. Good tenured staff, not a lot of turn-over. They were also very helpful regarding financial matters when things were tight. It was a very positive experience for my dad, and we were peaceful knowing where he was, that he was happy and in good hands. It was really scary for me to let go of him, and Avalon Memory Care provided such a relief!

Wonderful! Only hiccup was the first roommate our sweet mother had was blaring everyone out of her room with her TV. The workers were wonderful in helping her move to another room with a sweet roommate.

Things have been pretty good so far. It's very clean, and bright, and the staff is really friendly. I would give the food a four. When I was looking around, it was between two places, The people at both places were exceptionally friendly, they really represented their care well, and seemed to be really caring. The space here was really clean and bright and happy feeling, the overall environment is what made this the one we chose.

They are great! The staff is very clean. Taking the overall care and the services into consideration, the price is very good. We have had good communications with them, it was better when Sue was there, her assistant Cheryl has really stepped up, she has been very good in Sue's absence. They are quick to get in touch with me, and have been quick to answer my questions. I've only had one complaint, and when it to Sue, she was quick to come up with a solution. I have been very impressed with the doctor there, Doctor Rivas. I've been very impressed with him, he calls and asks me questions, he really took an interest. They are very caring and very respectful. They don't have cords for around their neck, but they have monitors and all we had to do was ask. There hasn't been one staff member that I haven't been impressed by, they have been very patient and kind, and they just speak to the residents with patience and confusion.

Having to find a place for my mother was a very emotional and difficult task. I am so happy that I found Avalon care. I like how they handle the challenges of someone with dementia. Everyone we have come into contact with is very kind, patient, and strives to make the residents happy by accomodating their needs. It has been a relief to find such a great place.

To date we are very pleased with Avalon! This is our third facility and this is far better than the big 'corporate' places!! We feel they are taking good care of our mom and dad! It is always clean and staff is always friendly and helpful.

Avalon has been just wonderful so far! It's a lovely place, and the staff have all been incredibly helpful. The woman who worked with us before we moved our loved one in, Michelle, was so helpful and so knowledgeable about dementia and Alzheimer's care. Overall we're just very pleased with how they've handled everything!

Our mom has only been in Avalon for two weeks. She was not happy about being placed anywhere other than her home, but she says it is a very nice place with a wonderful staff and great food. Trust me, that is a H.U.G.E. compliment from my mother.

I started the search for a place for Mom and was referred to Avalon. I was impressed with the amount of time the director spent with me. Overall cleanliness is very good; the staff were friendly and the residents seemed happy. I visited about 10 sites and Avalon was one of two where I did not see sick residents sitting in the hall looking sad. It was also comforting to know that the maximum number of residents at the site is 22; so the staff will not be overburdened. After visiting my Mom I am very pleased with having her at Avalon.

Have only toured one other place, which was a combination assisted living w/ a memory care unit. Avalon is only Alz residents and each home reminded me of a home my mother lived in at one time, open floor plan and inclusive. Most residents are not stuck or hid in their rooms they are socializing or doing an activity or watching TV in a living room, just like they would if they were home. I have never seen or heard of other places like this and feel comfortable knowing they are with other residents like them and treated with the dignity and respect like they deserve. We eventually placed a deposit and just moved mom in. The personnel have so far been helpful with her transition and the 'white lies' we had to use to make sure this was not an awful transition.

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful but I did notice that when we first moved in many could not speak English I know my dad is a little introverted and possibly no matter what is offered He may not accept but I am not sure about the activities, but they seem to be geared towards those that enjoy coloring and my dad does not enjoy coloring, and possibly playing games and not being able to see well or hear is difficult to join in but I have not got a list of the activities I was told at the beginning that there was a form of pet therapy and that does not seem to be happening at all, which is disappointing The size of his room is a little small, but appropriate I have had to inform the staff several times that his toilet and sink are not being cleaned- and they seem to get the toilet clean, but not his sink- I do know that they have washed my dad's windows several times and I'm very grateful for that, but I do feel that the window facing the field needs to be replaced because the problem seems to be inside of the double pain and is extremely distorted and if someone is going to live there and knowing they spend so much time in their room, they shouldn't have to look out of such distorted windows but be able to enjoy the few things they have, which is looking out into a peaceful field I cannot even imagine trying to keep a memory care facility clean, but I do know that often when I walk the hallways, it does smell of urine I do know that at Brookdale they did use air purifiers Which did seem to help I have had to ask several times about my dad's sheets getting washed - I do think it is getting done now When I have alerted staff to the situations, it seems like they intend to take care of the need Many times it seems like the breaker pops and my dad's lights do not come on in his bathroom- that has happened four or five times since he has moved in -the good thing is he does have a light right outside the bathroom that seems to work, but that should be taken care of They are very attentive when you are needing to enter and exit which I appreciate and they greet myself and my father almost every time ??

I liked it was a family owned facility that was smaller sized. They seemed committed to getting the residents up for the day and meals and back to bed in the evening. Liked that they focused on behavior modification to correct undesired behavior. We were concerned that they seemed short of staff

The staff is genuinely interested in the wellbeing of the whole person of their residents. They are helpful, kind and attentive. There are a few people on the care team that have trouble understanding English without some form of special attention. That is concerning.

I think I would like for people to know how caring the caretakers were. They were very friendly and very attentive to the residents. We were very pleased with my brother's care. Hospice came in and took care of his medical issues.
