Management unresponsive to repeated care failures

We certainly wish that the super friendly pie-gifting gracious Atria Westchase welcome at sign -up and move-in continued once loved one is full time resident. My father is wheelchair-bound and requires the highest care level for all activities of daily living. The Atria resident wearable call button system was touted as the centerpiece of their approach - "all calls must be answered in ten minutes and and caregiver response times always monitored." The reality is the opposite: most night calls and nearly all Sunday calls and many morning calls are totally ignored by caregivers who must work two jobs to survive. This leaves my father helpless. Until a family member arrives Top management is unpleasant and defensive and disinterested when failures reported. I guess their hope is you will stop reporting care failures if they make the experience of doing so miserable enough. Looking for another assisted living facility. Ready to move my father,

Memory Care
May 10, 2014

I visited the Atria Grand Oaks a few weeks ago. I was interested in a residence for my elderly father after my mother passed. I was shown around by Whitney. I didn't feel that she was in-tuned with my fathers needs and interests. I was shown the pool after I expressed that my father doesn't swim. I was invited back for lunch with him but didn't end up revisiting. The community had a cold vintage like feeling. I didn't feel that the programs offered would satisfy dad's interests and the food on the display for lunch was a hot dog that looked bland. He enjoys programs other than bingo and jewelry making. Whitney mentioned a discount and said I should leave a deposit after she informed me that they had many vacancies. I decided to move dad to Hillcrest instead. The atmosphere felt just right and I was impressed by the diverse program offerings and the friendliness and warmth of the staff. They even have a 24 hour cafe which dad loved.

Assisted Living experience

My Mom needed to make the move to Assisted Living due to her physical limitations. After visiting all of the communities in our area we decided that St. Joseph's would be a good fit based on what we saw when we visited. Well her experience was awful! They seemed to have many residents that should have been in Memory Care instead of Assisted Living. The staff was very nice but more than not the residents yell at each other. After dinner for medication time it is like a major traffic jam waiting to get their medications. My Mother was so depressed and would sit out front of the building to remove herself from the inside! She was there for 17 days. We couldn't move her out quick enough. She is now thriving at Mangrove Bay in Assisted Living and feels like she is "home".

Overpriced Memory Care Unit

If you think you are going to get a facility for your loved one that focuses on memory care and stimulation then please look elsewhere. The residents are mostly in wheelchairs and watch TV. Their version of a locked facility is having alarmed doors that can be pushed open. The units are typically short staffed too

Do not place a loved one here

It took so much effort to convince my mom that this was the right move for her, now she is afraid of going into any Assisted Living Facility. It was absolutely the worst experience ever. Ill explain: we went through the entire admission process. Paperwork, medical records, multiple nurse visits, multiple facility visits. We paid them for the first month & on the day my mom was supposed to move in, they called us & stated that she had been rejected bc of a medical issue. Which they already were aware from the beginning.

Inadequate Memory Care

I was incredibly disappointed with the Memory Care offered at Atria Longmeadow Place. The administration do not care for your loved ones and send residents to the hospital unnecessarily because they do not want to deal with the symptoms that accompany memory loss. I do not recommend Atria Longmeadow Place if your loved one is experiencing memory loss and encourage doing extensive research as there are other better facilities in the area.

Poor experience

We did not have a good experience. My mom was diagnosed with a metastasized brain tumor 12 days after move in. She cannot return because of medical reasons but they evaluated her and despite recommendations from her rehab facility determined she could return which meant paying the 60 days rent instead of the 30 days rent if leaving for medical reasons. Also we had her room completely cleaned out about 7 weeks before we could stop paying rent. All in they got 3 1/2 months rent plus the $[removed] buy in for the 12 days she was there. That they do not consider her leaving a medical reason is outrageous and a money grab.

Don't Trust Atria

Staff changes, complete lack of communication once the contract is signed, low level of care regarding medications administered, with signed documents saying they would give certain meds and didn't, deceit about what they will provide regarding check ins and meds, safety concerns regarding meds, security, and who is in charge of what. She lived there a week and we had to move her, and they charged us for May even though she was out before the end of April, but they did not return calls or messages regarding the move out, presumably so they could charge us since they never confirmed her move out. So we are in the process of fighting for that payment back. Hope this helps, happy to provide more info if needed. I would not recommend them to anyone, ever.

Review for Atria Newport Plaza

They were not upfront with the staff capabilities. Staff is always on the phone in the common area. Seems like minimal activities. Rooms are huge though and nice.

Horrible Experience

After the papers were signed and the money was paid, that's when they explained that they were a social model (which I never heard of before). They kept calling me about my mother's behavior. She was being sent to the hospital every few days. They suggested that she go to Masonicare to have her medication assessed. She was there for 3 weeks. When they were contacted about her release, they did not respond. They basically abandoned her and we had to rush to find another place for her. She never got back to where she was before moving to Atria. And I didn't mention that my mother was there for less than 3 weeks, moved in 9/20. They charged us for the month of September and the month of October, refused to refund any money.

Was promised a room for my mom (when she was going through cancer treatment) had me sign a contract and pay upfront Moved my mom in after being told days before that her room wasn't ready, after all, and she was staying in the guest suite. Terrible. She was there 2 weeks! Terrible. Nobody came to speak with us, she got very sick and wound up being hospitalized and never got to go back - her room was still not ready. I am still receiving a bill for the time she didn't even get to live there. Awful experience, .

Unpleasant experience

Make sure it is the right place that cares for your loved ones, not just the money I had set my mother up into a room. I thought she would be happy with the people seemed to be extremely nice but then after I moved in a few of her belongings, they did an assessment. And the assessment was difficult to understand and they added an additional [Amount removed] onto my fee without even my knowledge. They sent me a contract with the new amount. Wouldn't explain it? No one would call me back. So finally, I had my husband go and pick everything up out of my mother's room that we had just put in there and ask for a refund. So make sure they really care about your loved ones. And it's just not money for the facility.

It's all really a phony façade. It looks and feels like a luxury hotel yet it is only the outside appearance. We spent three months at Sage and never once did I feel that my father was being taken care of properly at a [Amount Removed]/mo price tag. They were constantly understaffed and poor/slow to respond to any questions or concerns. The executive director position changed three times in the three months we were there and other management positions changed out as well. It was difficult to get my father's room cleaned at minimum once a week... in fact, it was three weeks that it took when we first moved in. I ended up having to hire a caretaker to stay with him, and to assist him with his medications, his shower, and care of his living space. When getting the initial tour, and even afterwards, all the wonderful descriptive words were used to convince me, and I'm sure others that they cared. I'll leave it at that for now since just writing this summary has made me quite sad. After moving my dad to another facility, he passed a month later. It is quite hard to remember those last few months. Traumatic better describes it.

Susan fell 12+ times at Atria park and they forced me to pay extra for someone to watch her from 8pm to 8am at $35 per hour. They only have 2 people watching 20 residents at night. This is unacceptable and I complained to them. Unfortunately Susan passed away on July 6, 2025. I give Aria park of Lafayette an F.

Keep looking

If you are considering Atria North Point for a family member, keep looking. The building is old and in need of repair. The walk to meals is only convenient for residents close to the elevator or dining room. The meals are hit or miss and the dining room is run poorly. If you don't go to meals in the first rush it's hard to get someone's attention for service, even if it's within the time frame for service. The front desk people are nice but only so helpful. We asked about getting the daily menu online and the front desk claimed it was on the website but the dining manager laughed in my face and said it wasn't. They cater to the very independent resident. If your loved one is capable of living independently but in need of a little assistance (walker etc) forget it. He/she will still be expected to move their own heavy dining chair across the floor to a table, carry a heavy package upstairs etc. The ambassador program is a joke. Like a middle school click and not welcoming.

Review for Atria Maplewood Place

Horrible experience. They have 1 nurse on site and do nothing. My father passed away there after 3.5 weeks and then I pulled my mother out. Very clean but terrible staff and programs. So Atria sells themselves on watching and helping in memory care. We put my father there and everyday we went he was wet in his diaper. The rooms where never cleaned. They had my mother in memory care and she didn't need it. She was basically doing there job and helping my father. It was about 3.5 weeks and my father passed after falling twice in there care and we took my mother out at the 5 week point. They sold us a whole song and dance on how they take care of patience and also took a 4K community payment that they wont refund. The food was horrible always COLD and the activity were the same every day. I wouldn't put my worst enemy here. They offer a good price and its because they basically renting you a room and feeding you. The laundry was never right clothes were always missing. The medication management is terrible. They were giving my mother wrong medicine. When we moved her out we found pills on the floor. Please tell people to stay away and you can use my name I do not mind. You can even put my phone number if people have questions. No elderly person deserves this treatment.
