I am not to pleased with the administration at this community, they made my loved one and I feel very pressured and I did not have a comfortable feeling at all. They have called and emailed me multiple times after I told them it was not going to be the right fit for my mother and I did not appreciate that.

Not for me.

I came to Atria of Glen Ellyn in [Removed]. I was coming from a rehab facility and did not need assisted living services but needed meals and transportation for approximately 2 months. I stayed at Atria 3 days. I was warmly welcomed and the staff was helpful in getting me settled into this facility. The food was good and the staff seemed to learn my individual preferences quick quickly. I participated in a few of the activities and enjoyed them. If I had stayed I may have used their personal trainer who leads a morning exercise class. I chose to leave Atria for these reasons. I could not get any internet or cell service in my room. I was told that "This is just how it is...". If I wanted to call my family I had to go into the lobby on the first floor to make a call. My family was very concerned about my safety alone in my room without access to a phone and I didn't want to have all of my cellphone conversations in the lobby in front of others. I could not use anything that needed an Internet connection. I often Skype with my sister and I couldn't do any of that. I could not use my iPad without an Internet connection. There was not a solution when I asked the administration about this. Also when I was first brought into my room I noticed that the air-conditioner was really loud and said that it was so loud I doubted I could sleep. I was told that maintenance would be available on Monday, this was Saturday afternoon. I asked a few staff if there was anything that could be done and was told "no". I ended up shutting it off and slept without air-conditioning in July. On Monday the maintenance man did check my unit and said that it was so broken that it needed to be replaced. I did leave for a different facility later that day. Atria was clean and had a large porch were residents relaxed and visited.

Need a more thorough assessment process

We did not have a good experience with Atria Kennebunk. I really think they need to be much more thorough in their patient assessment process. After a 10 minute meeting with my loved one they said they'd be able to handle everything, which did not end up being the case. He was above the level of care they were able to provide, and we ended up having to move him out.

Excellent rehab care, but poor otherwise

We had a mixed experience with Atria Copeland. My loved one was here for a brief rehab stay, and in terms of the rehabilitation care and staff I think they did an excellent job. However, in every other regard the care was a big disappointment. The aide staff really needs an overhaul. The response times when my loved one would call for help was very slow, which was especially frustrating because so much of the time you'd just see them standing around socializing. It worked fine for rehab, but i would not recommend Atria Copeland as a place to live.

My understanding that "marketing" states to prospective residents that there is a van that will take residents to events. However, it apparently does not run on any evenings or Saturdays. While it is available to take Christians to Church on Sunday; it is not available to Jewish residents to go to their place of on Friday night or Saturday morning. If you want to attend a funeral on Saturday...your stuck. If you want to be taken to locations within walking distance during the winter months when there is ice... you are stuck. Seems like Marland Place should either revisit its policy or not mislead prospective residents.

Downhill slide continues ... don't be fooled by the Marketing

Regrettably Atria continues to struggle with food service, overall management and most importantly resident safety. My mom has lived there for a number of years and the staff turnover since the transition to Atria has been significant. Three Directors in less than two years speaks to Atria's inability to effectively manage this facility. Rents continue to skyrocket with a just announced 8% increase. Atria excels at Marketing. The facility does indeed look great. They keep the facility clean and bright. Unfortunately the day to day living experience is not commensurate with the initial appearance. Couple this with annual monthly rent increases in the $400-$500 dollar range and I would strongly encourage folks to look carefully and most importantly to look elsewhere.

They did not do what they said they were going to do

If you need help, it's not very good. My Mother went in there needing mental assistance and they did not do what they said they were going to do. They would never remind her to put her hearing aids in and her dentures and I would go there and she would be trying to eat without her dentures. They never reminded her to do the things she needed to do. They did not do what they were supposed to do. I would go there and her hair was not even combed. They did move her to the dementia side and I feel that she is getting more individualized care there. I feel like they promised us the sun, the moon and the stars and then did not deliver.

Get everything in writing up front.

Food is pretty good however, there are long wait times. Atmosphere and environment is good. Cleanliness is fair--we have to come in and clean toilets and do laundry because Atria is not always on top of it. They seem very short-staffed and the aids are always late, or sometimes do not come at all when you ring for them. The main thing that I did not like about Atria is that they are not transparent about their care fees, and they nickel and dime you. When I* visited, I spoke with a resident who told me "it is a nice place to live, but they charge for every single little thing, and they overcharge for the actual services that the residents get". That resident said her daughter was constantly having to complain and confront management. We just assumed that all nursing homes are like this. Too bad I didn't listen to that person because they spoke the truth! Now we are stuck paying more than what they initially told us it would be.

Terrible condescending management -overpriced for services received

My parents were here for 2 years & unfortunately my mom is impressed by visuals & that's where the positives end ( beautiful building homey decor etc) the management was beyond terrible - starting with sunrise & morphing into Atria both managers were arrogant & condescending & the ridiculous paranoia put my father with Alzheimer's in the ER 2 times because of his "violent behavior " while on the 4th floor which ultimately led to his death. Beyond all of that Sunrise/Atria was overpriced required we not only pay for the highest level of care but also private aids after my mom suffered a stroke & they didn't want to have the atria aids spending any time concerned about her ( she was actually capable if they had allowed it & were too consumed with their perceived liability) - besides all of that ... The food was awful, their was no activities person over the course of of the 2 years for more than a few months total - the "nursing staff " was cold & inept & the only people who seemed to care or be competent lost their jobs consistently - needless to say we moved our mom in with me & hired 24 hour care - & she is currently in a sunrise facility in Carlsbad ca where the philosophy & management is 180 degrees the opposite direction - my mom is thriving she's active & walking & singing $ leaving atria was the best thing I ever did for the quality of the remainder of her life!

disappointed

First of all, my mother has hypertension and they do not accommodate that very well. They also do not appear to handle her dementia very well at all. There have been several things where they have not fully delivered on what they have promised and where things have not worked out as well as hoped. The people that administer the medications are not evened licensed nurses. I really have been overall disappointed with the place.

A Trial is Important

My visit to Atria was very enlightening. I decided to try it for30 days. I went in with my husband on January 19th. By Feb 7 ,I was ready to leave. Our experience was not what I expected. Too many services were not performed according to my original orientation. Starting with the room which was too small for two people. My husband was evaluated level 2 . He was suppose to get help mornings and evenings. Lucky I was there to guide them. There was no real schedule. The dining room was always a long wait. The menu was not complete. You could get almost anything if you knew what you wanted. Room was never vacuumed. The activity staff was excellent. It is difficult to service two individuals on different levels. There was a lock down because of illness. We should have been sent home until it was over. There were many things that should have been coordinated. One chief didn't know what the others were doing. We should have had a meeting with a social worker after a short time. Getting home was the best we could do.

Friendly and helpful until you leave your loved one there on their own. Communication with family on care isn't very often. I do not think they have enough help to go around. If your loved one cannot be independent this is not the place for them if they need any kind of EXTRA care. Disappointed with what was presented to me prior to move in.

For the price: not impressed by facility. On busy street, no grounds(green area). Some units open directly into parking lot - not safe. Smelly in many areas. But very friendly staff (maybe too friendly to the point of unprofessional-was approached by friendly shuttle driver who had brought in a gift of pastry during the tour. He was trying to "sell" me the community again in the parking lot as I'm leaving).

It was terrible,

They just left him in his room all day. It was terrible, he would just sit there and stare out the window. He went to the hospital several times, and the last time he fell he laid there all day, it wasn't even night and nobody checked on him. I felt like they just wanted the money. My mom was always worried about getting a phone call, about dad ending up in the hospital, she didn't like to leave him there.
