Atria

I looked at the Atria back in May and it was beautiful. The place was clean, the staff was wonderful and they have a wide range of activities for the residents to enjoy. I think my mom will be really happy here.

After spending some time in an Assisted Living apartment at Atria Aquidneck Place, my mom declined so that I had to move her to a memory unit (Atria calls these "Life Guidance"). There was no room at Aquidneck Place, so I moved her to the Life Guidance at Bay Spring Village. I have been mostly very happy with the care she receives there. The staff is extremely attentive and caring and the Executive Director is very accessible and efficient. The food is very good. There is a lot of attention paid to really knowing the residents. I really like the fact that everyone is extremely receptive to any concerns I may have and works hard to satisfy the residents and their families. The only negative I can report is that there are only 2 CNAs and one Med Tech/nurse on at any given time. Sometimes, this is enough, but sometimes it's not enough. The population of residents can be extremely needy so it can be problematic at times. However, they do a great job!

My wife and I have been guests at the Atria Rye Brook for seven months. Last fall, I spent a month investigating various options for us and felt that this was the best choice for us. It was hard to get used to living in an apartment again. It's a lot smaller than the home we left. We have less furniture than we used to have and the pieces of furniture we do have are closer together. There is enough room for the two of us though and we can even entertain a few people in our apartment, as long as it's only one or two. The building is attractive on the outside and even nicer on the inside. The building is kept scrupulously clean. The thing people here complain about most is the dining room. They try to provide variety on the menu but it does get a bit repetitive sometimes. There are always a lot of choices available, but only a few of them change from day to day. The food ranges from OK to pretty good, and I can always something I like. I personally think that people need something to complain about and the food is a good target. There are very few people who look undernourished. There is a wide variety of activities every day. There are concerts, all sorts of games and contests , current events discussions, arts and crafts sessions, movies and exercise sessions in the gym. I sometimes feel I'm in a sleep away camp rather than a senior citizens residence. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and go out of their way to make guests comfortable. For residents who need extra help there is a home care service on the premises. Residents can have someone help them with various activities such as showering, dressing, doing the laundry, and with getting to the dining room for meals or to activities. Everyone's room is cleaned once a week. After living here for seven months I feel I made the right choice about a place to stay.

My dad is really happy there. Most of the staff is wonderful. There are a few people that aren’t so wonderful. It’s almost always pretty clean. They’re doing a lot of upgrades right now so it’s getting better. There are lots of activities. They need some kind newbie packing to help people get oriented to all the services they offer.

First of all, it is too soon to really know. Uncle Manny has only been there a week or two. what I like is the friendliness of Atria and the staff. What I did not like about "A Place for Mom" is how you told everyone in the neighborhood that I was look for a place and they were like a pack of hungry dogs, and kept calling me about my uncle. I thank you for your efforts, but do try to keep a softer "sell" when dealing with folks.

Mom has lived here for 1 year. All in all, we're quite happy with the choice, understanding that there are some "nicer" places but they would cost a bit more. The daily menu is pretty good, but the choice of pork vs. chicken gets boring, especially if your doctor doesn't want you to eat pork! After living there for 3 months, we learned that 2 floors were going to be remodeled to accommodate dementia seniors. The good news is that mom won't have to move now that she has been diagnosed with dementia. She won't HAVE TO move, but if she does, she will be living at a similar location. Finally, the secondary reason why mom likes Atria is that they allow residents to have pets -- dogs. That was very good news because her dog of 18 years died about 10 days prior to living at Atria. I'd give it a 4.

My father is doing very well at Atria Maplewood Place. All in all a very positive experience. I would like to see more outside foods brought in on occasion such as Chinese Food, other ethnic foods and occasional outings to actual restaurants. A little bit more variety in outings would be nice, but I am sure the do the best they can with the level of activity most folks can handle. My father, even at 91, is able to get around pretty well. The people there treat my father very well and he seems to be well liked. I feel his safety is well taken care of there. So far, in a year and a half, there have been no outbreaks of any communicable diseases which I feared in a setting such as this, but this is handled well by the staff. I sleep well at night knowing he is being well taken care of.

My father lived on the Life Guidance floor for people with fairly advanced dementia. He was well cared for and treated with kindness and respect in a pleasant environment. Life is boring for the dementia sufferer, and that is where Atria Kew Gardens could use improvement. Not much effort was put into finding a activities to occupy those who were up to it. Residents spent a lot of time sitting in chairs staring into space. Although they promised to take residents out for van rides van from time to time, I don't think that occurred more than once in my father's 15 month stay. As in every other facility, keeping laundry straight was also a problem.

My mother had been living at Arbors in Westbury. Though I don't think she would be happy in any assisted living situation, the grounds of the Atria are beautiful, the hallways wider and the dining room more inviting and bright. So far, we are satisfied with the care she is receiving at Atria.

My mom is very happy there. She likes the staff, the activities, the food, her room, the other residents, etc.

Atria was a nice community, I would have gone here. We found a good deal at another community that was a nicer. The community we found was like a Hilton Hotel, this isn't on that level, but still a nice place.

It's very clean, but we are having trouble getting them to come in and clean the apartment. The public spaces are kept nice, but we are having trouble getting the housekeeping set up, garbage to be emptied, etc. It didn't happen automatically. The staff is very nice and very hard working. There was a conference on dementia, but they used the room the movies are shown in, and they had a movie listed, but they hadn't planned that out well. They don't carry certain things, and she is paying a lot of money and she doesn't feel like she is getting her money's worth. They had a lunch outing, and she was told that the first three people that sign up for it was free, and that was not quite true. There are other things, that she didn't realize she was going to need to provide like toilet paper. There have been a lot of miscommunications. They used to have a selection of flavors for jams, individual packages, but now they have decided to have a jar of jam, and now there is only one flavor, and no one asked what kind of flavors people like. The weekends are kind of slow there isn't a lot going on, on the weekends. The meals seem very rich and don't seem very healthy.

The people at Atria seem to really care about the residents. I am somewhat disappointed in the housekeeping/cleanliness aspect because I feel like more could be done. I wish there were more/structured activities for residents if the memory care unit.

The parking at this community can be a little limited – you have to park on the street because the available parking is limited. The food is very good. The staff is very friendly. The community is very clean and pleasant.

Welcoming place, lively activities in Alzheimer's area. Mom maybe be beyond most people there, nice pond with paved path around. Menu looks yummy

It’s independent living. The best aspect of this community is how clean it is. The staff is very friendly. Because it’s independent living the care services don’t really apply. There are plenty of activities.

My loved one was here briefly for respite care. The facility itself was very nice. They had a friendly, pleasant staff, and the care and services they provided were all high quality. However, the facility just wasn't a good fit for my loved one socially. The median age seemed to be around 80, and my loved one was much younger than that, and felt a bit isolated socially.

Liked the brightness of the place when I walked in. Nice rooms and staff seemed very friendly and engaged with residents. Liked the mix of residents - independent and assisted.

We toured this community when we were looking into care options for a loved one. I like what I saw here, it seemed like a nice place, overall. The staff were all very friendly, and the facility itself was clean and well kept. However, the facility was multiple floors, which I didn't think would have been something my loved one would be able to navigate easily.

This community was a little smaller than the one I chose. They didn't have many casitas, and they didn't have any available for my time frame. They were all very nice and Hope was a doll, but I was really looking for a casita.
