Not Impressed

Took a unannounced visit to see Bickford on a Saturday . We were unimpressed with the two staff members we met . They were very nice, but one of them was so sick with the flu that he had no business being there under any circumstance. Outside areas of memory care had lots of stored poles and construction debris. we found the place very messy and unorganized.

I wouldn't send anybody there if it was free!

We were exceedingly disappointed. We were not happy with her entire universe when she was there was being parked in front of the tv or herded in and out of the dining room activities were unimaginative and sparse. and there were instances of something grievious happening in the room and no one knew for six or more hours. We were not pleased with the food. The dining room used the same place mats at every meal and they are not washable placements. There were injuries that were not reported to us. They were giving incorrect doses of medication. Above all else never once did I see the director on the third floor the Alzheimers unit. They were in the middle of remodling the first floor Alzheimers unit. They had a few good caregivers, two or three on the night shift. I wouldn't send anybody there if it was free!

Musical Nurses

My mother developed a UTI in the first week and had to go to ER to have it treated on Christmas Day. There seems to be not much of a UTI prevention plan in place nor in house treatment. Just as she recovered from the UTI and seemed to be settling in she spilt her soup at dinner resulting in burns and a visit to urgent care. Clearly this should never have happened. She died on [date removed] only having been admitted on [date removed]. It is a beautiful facility with some excellent staff such as [name removed] (head nurse but constantly changing) and the activities director [names removed]. The staff is constantly being changed in and out which probably didn't help my mother's situation. The head nurse atleast should be stationary. Beautiful facilities and many activities for those who are still mobile. Sadly it was not a good experience for my mum.

Beware!!

My mother has lived here for 3 months and after many staff changes, we continue to have issues with the care provided and constant issues with medications. All kinds of things were promised, however, we are very unhappy and are considering moving her. I see reviews from 2016 about renovations. That's what we were told in Nov. 2018, and it is now June 2019 and they have still not been done!!! Mom's apt. hasn't been cleaned for 3 months as staff continue to quit. Director, chef, housekeeping and nursing staff have all quit!!! Food is not good and don't provide a variety. If you can find somewhere else, go there.

DO NOT BRING YOUR LOVED ONE HERE AT THIS TIME.

My family member has been a resident of Alto since it was known as Bickford, and then Charter Senior Living. We have been extremely pleased with the care given until Allegro Management took over in early 2018. Since then we are seeing a dramatic turnover in nursing, CNA and other staff. Wonderful gifted people who have been providing dedicated care for years are leaving. And new hires quit or don’t show up for work. I believe one of the most important things in a senior citizen’s life is consistency, especially for those with memory issues. Being cared for by someone who knows them, their daily needs, likes and dislikes goes a long way towards providing them with the ultimate quality of life. I am holding on to hope that this facility could return to its original greatness, IF Allegro Management wakes up and fixes what is broken before it’s too late.

New facility poor service and care

My mom has lived here for about a year. I've gone to a couple of meals with her and the food quality is very poor and small portions. Everything is either fried or canned. No variety to speak of, no choices allowed; they make the menu and that's what you get. Very long wait time when you ring for assistance, sometimes up to 2 hours or more. Very high employee turn over. Incorrect charges on the monthly bill, for things we didn't request or need. There have been times when medication was questionable. For example, the pills looked different than what is normally taken. There is no delivery service allowed or mom could have her meds delivered and take them herself. Wonder if there is a kickback for the facility to be the only source of Rx. They used to have transportation service for appointments twice weekly, now only on Tuesdays. I feel that when the rate is over $3K per month, the service, care and amenities should be impeccable, or at least excellent. I would definitely NOT recommend this living facility. As a point of reference, we have had previous experience with other places and realize that some things are going to be similar no matter where you go, however this has been a very disappointing experience, to say the least.

Keep Looking- Not What They Present It As

Initially, we were impressed with this facility. Now, after yet another new owner, the service here has declined rapidly. Local management is complacent and unresponsive. The facility cannot accommodate the acuity of the residents with the few LPNs and CNAs available. Senior activities are now minimal because one person cannot accommodate everyone and he cannot be present at all times. Regret that A Place For Mom referred us to this facility. For the prices charged, I would highly recommend checking out other facilities.

5/12/16 - my grandmother was a resident at this facility for 11 years through 3 owners Sunrise, Tranquility and finally Bickford. Of the 3 Bickford has proven to be the worst. In the almost 4 years since they've acquired the facility it has continually declined. [removed] She was very happy there until the last few weeks of her life. Sadly since her death very few changes have been made in a management presence during the weekends. My advice is if you put your loved one here and they require a good amount of care you need to make sure you visit often especially on weekends. I was there at least 5 days a week and it turned out not to be enough. It's a beautiful facility and was once a thriving community and while there are some amazing staff there there are more that just do not care. I think it can be a wonderful place again but changes need to be made.

Atrium Memory Unit

As far as the regular floors I do not have a problem, staff was always very nice and pleasant but when my family member was moved to the 2nd floor Memory unit my feelings changed dramatically. The staff on the 2nd floor are mean and uncaring, the night shift is the worst. I do understand it is a hard thing to deal with but if you are not able to deal with patience with memory loss than they should not be working on the floor.I do have to say the activities director on the 2nd floor is very nice and does try to keep the residence active as best she can. It is a very sad and depressing floor. I truly hope something changes very soon for the sake of these poor residence.

The Worst Food in the World

The people running the place are the nicest people. Terry is terrific and the receptionist, Dawn, is the best. However, there is very little for the people living there to do besides bingo, which most men don't play. When you walk into the facility, most of the people in the lobby are sleeping. When they have some terrible singers come to the home, the people are sleeping during their performance. The food is the worst I have ever witnessed. I was going to eat dinner with my husband last night and the menu was a meatball sub or a tomato filled with egg salad and two small cookies for desert. When I got there after dinner, a group of people were sitting around and lobby. We got into a conversation and everyone agreed they definitely need to improve the quality of the food. It is awful. I am taking my husband out of Emeritus Thursday because he hates it there. There is nothing for him to do all day. He went to the restaurants twice and the service was so bad and it took so long, he didn't want to go again. It is a bad situation all around. He was there a month before someone changed the sheets on his bed. It is supposed to be "assisted living" but I do not see much assistance going on there.

Inefficient & poorly trained staff, no follow-up, little problem resolution; mis-medication of loved one

After more than 2 years of CONSTANT follow-ups, meetings, & conference calls with Emeritus at Ocoee management for problem after problem, we recently moved our loved one to a phenomenal facility. At Emeritus at Ocoee (not a complete list): (1) our loved one was mis-medicated at least 6 times (that we know of) (2) med techs did not read med labels to properly administer meds (3) memory care in particular was not clean (e.g., cushions reeked of urine, dirty Depends left in residents' rooms garbage cans) (4) TV used as a baby sitter while some staff sat around reading magazines or talking, esp. on weekends, instead of interacting with the memory care residents (5) Alzheimer's residents (including our loved one) sent to the ER ALONE with out-dated meds list (while family member rushed to get to ER before wrong med or dosage given) (6) few stimulating activities in memory care unit because "no money" - done on a shoestring (7) took days or WEEKS for something to get done properly, from updating a meds list to proper dispensation of a med to special food prep/food needs We were totally stressed out and fed up the entire time our loved one was there -- every visit was coupled with another problem, another follow-up, a need for another meeting or call or email -- CONSTANT AND ON-GOING the ENTIRE time up through and until we moved our loved one in 2013. Management made promises, most of which never happened unless there was no extra cost to Emeritus. Some staff good -- not enough of them -- but most have no common sense, don't care about the residents (esp. in memory care where attentiveness and caring is needed), and are horribly inefficient. We were told incompetent aides were "counseled" but could not be fired! Services are better in assisted living for the most part with more activities for those who are not as cognitively impaired. Emeritus at Ocoee advertises its "brain health program," but it is essentially non-existent, esp. in the memory care unit. We have seen a vast improvement in our loved one since the move to the new [removed] more engaged, smiles more, and is much cleaner (as is the new facility itself).

Assisted Living at your own risk

Dining and food are a 5. Aides that distribute meds are not on time. They come in in the middle of the night and stop right inside the door and yell for residents to get up and do not assist them. Head RN [name removed] in assisted doesn't follow up to see if her staff performs their duties. My mom has Parkinson's which they knew when she was admitted and they did not give her the assistance she required. They evicted her after 2 months. I would not recommend that place to care for anyone. Head RN [name removed] from memory care tried to supplement the care my mom received so memory care is probably good.

Madison at Ocoee

2 days after mom moving in they lost her hearing aids. She went to the hospital twice in 8 weeks from dehydration and UTI. She had a diaper rash so bad that her backside looked like hamburger.. I had hydration drinks in the fridge with her name on it and told the caregivers to please give her some through the day.. it never was...There was always puddles of urine on the dining room floor .they do not have enough staff for residents. The courtyard door is always locked. This was in memory care and I moved her out last September. She there 4 months. This was the experience I had in [dates removed].

Would not recommend

Put cameras in the room so you can see the treatment your loved one receives. The care of patients is terrible. My mother was there less than two months when we brought her back home. The hall she was on was always hot. We had to buy a fan for her room to make it bearable.

Need Leadership Change

Things started great when we toured. The guy we toured with was very down to earth and made us feel so welcome and never filled pressured. Then halfway through we learned he was let go. Then we got the other salesperson, she was rude short with us and came off genuinely fake the whole time we worked with her. The ED seems to not have time for any residents and the food is just terrible.

Review for The Goldton at Venice

My mom was in assisted living. They left her sitting in one of the living rooms after each meal. No one interacted with her. I visited multiple times at different times of the day. Always the same. I'm not sure where the assisted part came in. I asked caregivers to let my mom dress and undress herself as much as she could on her own. They were too busy and they did it for her. How do I know? I put up cameras in her room. They just moved her into the bathroom to dress/undress her, thinking I couldn't hear them. This seemed like a nice place if someone was living in the independent living area. Not so much in ASL or memory care. One person cared about my mom. The rest just made excuses. They said things would change, but they never did, so I moved my mom to a different residence.

Betrayal

Not a fan of manager. They went up on their price over a few months almost[amount removed]. Their air conditioning kept going out. They had a league right outside my friends door. They had several days or you could not flush the commode. Their food was without flavor. They had told me that she could eat in her room she didn't feel like coming to the table but they never wanted to take her food in her room. They were supposed to clean the room but she and I ended up cleaning it most of the time. They had a man who kept coming in the rooms of the female patients and when I told the director that he needed to put him in a walker that wouldn't fit through the rooms so that he couldn't go in there He told me that he would get my friend [name removed] a key. Later when I ask him about the key he asked me if she was going to lock and unlock the door and I told him that he knew that she couldn't do that or keep up with it. So then she had to get somebody to come and help her lock and unlock the door every time. He finally came in her room and used the bathroom floor and slept in her bed and went through her clothes. Even the aids were telling him about this particular man but he did nothing. When the hurricane came through all of those older people ended up sitting outside all day long for over a week. His generators weren't worth the price he paid for them and I was told by someone who worked there that when they ran out of gas he was busy helping his mother and he couldn't bring gas for the generators. Some of the help was not very helpful with the patients. I had ordered some things for her from Amazon that were delivered over there and when Amazon said they had come and I couldn't find them I asked [name removed] about it. He Tell me he checked and nothing was there but in the meantime one of the deliveries showed up in our bathroom so I asked about the other package and he said that it never came.

Review for Legacy Ridge at Marietta

I would rate them worse than zero. The patients who were in memory care seemed to be wondering around lost. It was lunch time and total chaos. And the memory care suites were in the very back. There is no caretaker anywhere close to them. And the "sales person" conveniently failed to mention the money was non-refundable. It was so chaotic she suggested we write the check and take the contract home and read it. Who does that? I would tell any family to stay away from those thieves! They stole our money. My Mom never spent one minute in that whacko place. We paid them [fee removed]. Then immediately decided not to put Mama there. We let Loren know within hours that we were not going to put MAMA there. It was too chaotic and we were told we would not get our money back. I wouldn't recommend that bunch of thieves to anyone. We were promised a [fee removed] refund of the [fee removed] Of course we have never gotten a dime back. Disgusting unorganized bunch of liars.

Our expectations were never met.

What the community could really improve on would be all of the communication. [name removed] was the absolute worst nurse I've ever seen in my life. Unavailable doesn't return her calls in a variety of other problems. There was multiple issues at that facility enough so that I would never recommend them. Everyone was sweet and nice but execution was absolutely a zero.
