The reason the overall experience received 3 stars is they are not trained to handle difficult residents. They have exercise videos for hours in the mornings and very occasional activities. It is a good value is they still have the lifetime rate.

Amazing people but short staffed

There is a difference in whose working and how things are run. At first were so happy, it was amazing and it was everything they said it would be. But now it is a a bit of a mess because of the shortage of staff. They are super understaffed. Almost everyone who was here when we placed my loved one has left. Even leadership. There is no liaison for the residents anymore. The guy who runs the kitchen is such a sweetheart and works so hard, but they had to switch so the main meal is at lunch because they are so short staffed at dinner times. All of the staff are doing a very good job and really trying their best, there is just not enough of them. Overall there have just been a ton of turnover in the staff and that is affecting everything else. I could not recommend them at the moment until they get staffing all figured out.

Look a little deeper.

We're not particularly happy with them. Our biggest concern is the health aides, which they call care partners. We pay extra for additional services. Their base price is basically independent living, and you pay extra for assistance. The care partners aren't showing up half the time to help our loved one with showering, dressing, or going to bed. Which is hard on my loved one, who then doesn't know what to do. I've discussed it with the head nurse and the director, and it's still happening. Another concern is that the care partners don't have any bedside manner or communication skills. Residents like my loved one with mild dementia need a greeting and/or introduction when a person enters into their home. Often they don't say anything when they come in. Sometimes they ask her if she needs anything instead of just helping her with the pre-determined task. If she says she's not sure, they just leave. And these aren't isolated incidents. As far as recreation goes, the recreation director is very nice, and I think he tries to do a good job. But activities have been very inconsistent. When they're not happening as posted, there is no communication. When activities are on the schedule, it's not indicated where in the facility they will be taking place. When she asks the concierge, they don't know. And often activities are cancelled because nobody is showing up. So she has pretty much given up on trying to attend. Meals are one of the highlights. The dining room staff is a little friendlier. They know everyone by name, and ask the residents what they would like to eat at each meal. They could speak up a little though, since many of the residents are hard of hearing. But everything I've tried has been good. They serve dessert every day, and they serve the crispiest bacon I've ever had. The menu has good variety. The concierge staff is also very friendly, as well as housekeeping. It's a beautiful facility - bright and shiny and new. The tour was wonderful, but it doesn't live up to the hype. It's the care partners that we have a problem with - their lack of bedside manner and inconsistency of care, which we are paying a premium for. I also wish they had online availability for families to see the activities schedule so I could prompt her to participate. Additionally, there is no way to check meal balances, which don't roll over, unless you contact the chef. So it's hard to plan for the month. Basically there is no online visibility for families, and there's no excuse for that in this tech day and age. For the residents without family there to advocate for them, I would be concerned.

Disappointed

Her laundry was lost a lot and it took them a while to react to her needs. Sometimes the head nurse was not very nice. When we had issues she took offense to what we were saying. There were several every day staff members that were compassionate during our stay. She passed away from covid and I think the facility should have had stricter protocols during that time. Nobody has reached out since our loved ones passing and that shocked us - we never felt any compassion from them and that has been very disappointing.

Beautiful facility but make sure you take the time to dig under the covers.

The cleanliness was up and down due to a lot of turn over. My mother did not participate in the activities due to her condition however, there was always something going on for the residents as I could see. I would say to take your time and look around. While people are very nice and very friendly there is a lot of turnover. While this industry has a lot of turnover there was a lot of turnover. The administration has completely turned over in the time that my loved one has been here. I am hoping that with this turn over things will begin to get better. One of the red flags to me was that I asked to speak to other family members or residents and they would tell me they would let me speak to someone and then they would never provide the references.

Unpleasant, not a good experience, irresponsible staff

Sonata is a nice community both inside and outside. Our loved one's stay was at the beginning of the pandemic. The room wasn't cleaned to our satisfaction such as dirt under the sink, marks on the light switch plate, and more. They had a housekeeper and the housekeeper didn't clean the room. The concierge was great and knew everything. [name removed] was good. [name removed] was not good and lied. The staff wouldn't treat the resident the same if the resident would complain about the staff. We had to hire private care due to my loved one being a fall risk, and Sonata wouldn't help with our loved one since they were a fall risk. The private aide was caught sleeping in my loved one's bed or chair and the community caught this aide. The community didn't report any of the issues that they had with the private aide. The aide allowed my loved one to fall, didn't make the bed, or clean. The private aide had COVID, never had temperature taken at Sonata, and then passed COVID on to others. The same company sent over a new private aide, [name removed], and she was an angel.

Don't trust your loved ones with Sernades

I would advise to stay away from this community. If your loved one is at early stages of needing memory care and just needs a little bit of reminding this place may work. However anything beyond that they are not willing to help with it and require outside help. We were lied to, we moved our loved one from another area in Fl and i forwarded all information to make sure that there weren't any issues with insurance. They had the information and stated that she would be able to be seen by the doctor because she was in network. Once we got there she was never seen by a doctor and advised that her insurance was not covered. They could not manage her medication because of the doctor situation. When I moved my mother she was supposed to go by medical transport in a wheelchair and I was supposed to be called when she was picked up and I wasn't notified until after 1 hour later. It just wasn't run well and bad communication. The director of nursing left and no one was notified of it.

A Good Place to Be

Every time I visit my loved one is in their room. I would encourage you to look at the community, as it is close proximity to areas with other loved ones. Since we have been there they have only had 5 residents at a time. There currently isn't a lot of activities going on. The communication with the staff is fair. There seems to be someone new each time I visit, and I don't feel comfortable with all of them yet. The staff at the door are welcoming. My loved one seems to be doing well here.

My review of Poet's Walk

It was a nice facility but they would not stop pestering us. They were really desperate for our business and kept calling even after we place our loved one elsewhere. They were even calling after our loved one had passed away.

my review poet's walk

The community talks a good story but it takes a long time for things to get corrected, if it is fixed it goes back to the way it was after a short time. They do a lot of things well but I have problems with medication, but they have had a good plan for Covid. I have had issues with some of her basic care and have had to complain. there is a high turnover with the staff so when things are corrected and someone leaves we have to start over again. They did start garden visits so we could see our loved one and that was nice. I would not recommend this community

Beware of memory care

We have had two family members join this community, one was on the assisted living and the other was in the memory care. The assisted living is great, the memory care is not. The staff is very nice, cooperative and will try to work with you the best they can. I would shy away from memory care if your loved one has advanced dementia. If your loved one doesn't fit the mold of mild dementia they do not work with you. The assisted living is fine, they were very loving and passionate towards our loved one. We felt that they were getting a high level of care in assisted living. they have been very diligent following COVID restrictions. Non of the residents have had COVID, they have done a very good job with cleaning and keeping the residents safe.
