Huge Stair Case Takes Up The Whole Lobby

I would never put anybody there. It was very dreary and gloomy. The outside of the building is nice but when I walked in there was this big Gone With The Wind stair case. It was giant, really wide, and very ornate but the whole lobby is a giant mass of staircase. All the people in wheelchairs and walkers had to squeeze by to get to their activities. The whole focus of the lobby was this staircase that the resident's can even use because they're all using wheelchairs or walkers. The activity room was this little bitty dark and dreary room with no windows. It was not very bright and cheerful so I didn't even bother.

Dad is Doing Well, Mom Has Some Complaints

My dad is in the assisted living and everything has gone really well. The people are very accessible. The main thing is that they seem to care about my dad. They know him. I like the fact that it's very small. I think one of the things that really nice is the come and tell him when it's time for meals and when it's time for activities. Letting him know when activities are happen is really nice because it makes him more likely to go and the activities director is outstanding. My mother is in the independent living. She moved into a cottage and we wanted some repairs done that weren't done. My mother is extremely particular. Some people might have been okay with it but we weren't. We were very concerned in the beginning because they have one elevator in the main building and it was broken. I think they handled that situation the best they could but it was unacceptable that the elevator was broken for 3 weeks. The food was average. It's cafeteria style. I guess some people might like that but most of the people there get tired of standing in line. The people that work there seem very friendly. They're pleasant to the residents.

Overall impression was positive. 24 beds in mental health unit. Open door policy. Not brand new but in good condition. Staff seemed friendly and residents looked clean and well cared for. Has sister community in NOLA so could send someone to mom's house for the evaluation. Mom could spend a week-end there to try it out. Bed is provided - all other furniture is our doing. Staff are CNA and / or trained by Rosemont. Continuting education year round for treatment of Alzheimers patients. RN on staff. Two services where the doctor's make house calls or Rosemont will bring mom to her appt. Many planned activities daily to stimulate the mind.

Think Twice

The food was phenomenal when my loved one first moved in. The food now is horrible for example the food for dinner is a hot dog, and broccoli and again they call this dinner. There is no flavor to the food. All the residents are gaining weight due to all the carbs being served to them. Half the time my loved one just throws it away. The community is stating they have to follow CDC guidelines. However; how do we know where the staff is going, and why don't they have to follow these guidelines. This is just awful for my family and loved one. They have recently raised the rent. If I was able to care for my loved one, I would pull them out of this community. I brought it up to the administration over my concerns over the food. She told me, that she has never had any complaints about the food. I know that is a bold face lie.

Bradfield Place

Mom seems happy at Bradfield. The only complaint we have is the food which I have spoken with them several times. It is not consistent. The quality and volume is not consistent. They seem to have a hard time keeping a cook employed on the weekends. ( Fri-Sun). On weds her evening meal was a bowl on pinto beans, 4 crackers and koolaid. I don’t think that is acceptable and Mom will not ask for more or something different. They do not offer a menu to choose from which was advertised. She has made a few friends and that is wonderful. Mom likes the care givers. Response time to her calls is poor. I was told they would respond within 3 minutes. That has not happened. Of course, with the virus , there are no activities. They seem to do a good job with meds, cleaning and her laundry.

Very disappointed

My mom is there because of personal hygiene. When we signed up she was supposed to have someone check on her every 2 hours to see if she needed to change her depends. After a month being their this is not happening. In fact I went there today at 11:30 and she still had the same depends on from last night. No one came into her room until a little after 12 to take her down to the dining area. A couple of weeks ago I expressed my concern to them about this but nothing has changed. I am thinking we may have to move her.

Management need improvement

There seems to be a lack of attention to detail with the management at this facility. Also there have been several personnel who have left since we put my mother-in-law in the facility on February 1st. One week her laundry was picked up on Tuesday and kept in the laundry room through the following Sunday without being laundered. Her bed was not being changed on a routine basis until we complained. At the present time we are not sure that she is getting a shower a least every other day. I think the corporate office needs to get involved with the operation of this facility.

Our family's experience

The facility's was not able to meet the level of care needs of my father as they informed me they could. I had to follow up more than 3 times in the 2 months my father was there on his cleanliness & staff giving him bed baths. This was in his treatment plan. Staff to client ratio I did no fell was adequate. I would go there 7-8 pm there would be 2 staff there and a med tech of med tech & 1 staff. I have called in the evening with no answer and would go there to check on my father. My father would turn down meals a lot of the time. Communication was slack. There was one staff member,[name removed]who was very kind & accommodating to assist my father. My father actually declined there.... The studio was fine, size was sufficient. I paid $[fee removed] a month, may not be a lot for some it was for us. 1/2 was for the level of care that was not met which was the reason I moved my father out.

My experience

I've lived here for eight months. When I first moved here the dining experience was good. But now I'm spending one hundred fifty dollars a month on groceries. Transportation is ok but in my opinion limited. Housekeeping is performed every two weeks instead of weekly as stated on Emerson's website. Maintenance is ok but there are washing machines in the laundry room that have been out of order for two months and dryers for six months. If I'm around in this coming February I'll be moving.

Review for The Residence at Whitcomb House

I would tell a friend to avoid it. They can improve on many things. They have horrible nursing staff, the Director is very unkind.

Would not recommend

The owners are straggling to keep it open and the residents suffer because of it. I think that this summarize the problem there. The staff are so sweet and try to help but because of management. Their chore is difficult

Emerson South Collins review

They have taken away most of the things we did have. Housecleaning is now every 2 weeks and all they do is change the bed and sweep the and throw something in the toilet. The meals most of the time are terrible. They took our dinner meal away from us and breakfast is cereal and eggs that are almost inedible. The halls smell. They say we will start having dinner back one day at a time buffet style. The front desk is embarrassing. The people are very friendly but are not professionals dressed.
