Had my relative at this location for ...

Had my relative at this location for a year. In this time there have been 3 site administrators, and one ownership change. This is an older facility, there is any ongoing issue with flys in the independent living side and theft from those will key access to the apartments. There are no policies or documentation procedures regarding logging when cleaning staff or maintenance is in a seniors home, no policy regarding not doing work if people are not present, no security cameras in the hall ways, or a system to document grievances from residents including theft to know what is occurring on site. So far 2000.00 worth of property, has been stolen from my relatives room by someone with key access to the apartment. They do a fair job with activities and recently improved the food which is fair now also. They do provide transportation to appointments , Walmart, Braums, and other outings. Currently looking for other accommodations.

Might as well have her in a hotel or living with us

They don't do anything they say theyre going to do. They have her down as a level 2 and I've seen no care, they don't even bathe her. Unless you call giving her her medications and feeding her as level 2 they aren't doing their job. There was no real big communication, the nursing care here as far as home health and hospice is so different, its ridiculous. No one can give her insulin and there was actually nobody that even tried to help. They said "well your mother told us shes self care" but all you have to do is look at my mother and realize shes not self care and there has been no assessment. They also say that they come and knock on everybodys door to make sure they go out and eat but I can tell you for a fact thats not true. The only time I know of that they've physically checked on her is when i called them and told them to

Not allowed to see mother

when my mother first moved in she really enjoyed they had good food with a small selection activities transportation she was very happy there then covid-19 they went on total lockdown to protect our loved ones I was very impressed. But they are very very very slow in opening things back up. They still do not have choices of entree at meal times. The shuttle buses that take you to the doctors are not running 3 days a week like promised. That's a really sad thing about it all is that will not allow my mother any designated family caregivers. I am my mother's caregiver I have been for years. We cannot afford Assisted Living. There for myself and her niece assist her in her daily needs. They will not allow anyone in to see her that does not have a license. This is very sad.

Beware, stay away!

Please be careful of your first visual of this place. It appears to be small and nice on the surface. My mother was here for nine months. She liked it in the first two months, but then the food went downhill and stayed that way. She constantly complained about the food and so did her table mates. When she would buzz for help it could take anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour for a response. When she left to go home, it took over six months to get our money back and they did not refund everything owed to us with no explanation why. The people in charge are not qualified and the people in the corporate offices do not care enough to take care of their business. Do not stay here!!!! The activities director was great as was the Community Relations Manager. My mother did enjoy playing games there. They had lots of personnel turnover. Please beware of many problems at this place.

I went to this facility with a good friend who was visiting her father, I was always interested in placing my mother in royal estates so I was excited to scope out and get a feel for what they had to offer. My experiance was rather unpleasant. Altgough, royal estates seemed very nice and clean, i felt that some of the staff members were rude. One woman in particular. I was in the main part of the facility, admiring its presence, wanting my husband too see also, i took out my phone and took a picture. A woman at the front desk marched over to me, and told me that cell phones are not allowed, and that i would be barred from the facility if i used mine again. I was shocked, because she BARKED this at me. It was humiliating for me, and unesscary. Quite frankly the woman was vile and nasty. Then after being extremely rude, she came back up to me, and asked me who i was visiting with, and were i parked my car. I told her, then she barked that we are not to park there and demanded that i park elsewhere. She was so unwelcoming and so rude that it turned me completely off. Needless to say, they will not be gettin. My buisness. That woman needs to see a therapist.

low level of care

The facility is beautiful! There is no offensive odors when you walk in. Mother in Law went for respite care from the hospital. She was suffering from dizziness and nausea. She was a fall risk and had to be put in wheelchair to be taken to the restroom. The aides were loving and kind. They were very attentive and compassionate and sweet. Mom was unable to sit up due to the dizziness. The nurses tried to force her to sit up and when she was unable they put her food on the table ten feet from her bed and told her if she wanted to eat she would have to get up and go to the table. They also refused to give mom her medications because she couldn't sit up. Mom went without four meals and four doses of medicine before found out and we could get her out. The head nurse told her "You WILL get up and go to the dining room." We put her there because she needed help we couldn't provide. We paid out of our own pocket and they spoke rudely and neglected her. If you are only in need of a little assistance Strake Place would be a great option. Don't put your loved one there if they need a higher level of care. They made us leave a day early and didn't refund us. Overall bad experience.

Horrible

First off Brookdale only pays their aides $9 an hour. Understaffed and overworked. Only 2 aides per shift and required to lift patients. The place is turning into a nursing home instead of assistant living. They do not lock the front door at night and anyone can walk in. No one follows protocol. Half of the staff is all new and no one stays. Dining area and kitchen has gnats everywhere. Employee are not team players. The directors and front office staff wears jeans and looks unprofessional. This place only care about residents money. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Office Management - Incompetent and Inept

My mother passed away [date removed]. When a deceased resident passes away the policy is to lock their door. She passed on a Monday I went on Wednesday to clean out her belongings. Her door was unlocked. Her jewelry boxes, music boxes, jewelry, clothes, toiletries, purses, and other items were gone. She passed on [date removed]. She had paid her rent of [price removed] before [date removed]. I went in the office to find out when she would receive her refund. I was told in about 30 days. In May I went in again and they said I should receive it any day. I was told it was submitted but returned on [date removed] because a signature was missing, this is 3 months after her passing. I not only called several times and left messages but no one has been able to give me a legitiment answer. It will be ONE YEAR in 17 days since she passed -NO Refund Received. Respect for mom taken.

DISAPPOINTED

Drop by to get some information about this assistant living facility. The lady that sits in the office as you first walk in was extremely rude and very unprofessional. As, I walked up to the front desk a really nice young lady was in the middle of doing something stop and ask how can she help me. If I remember correctly I believe she was the nurse. She was able to get me what I was looking for. While I was there the same lady in the front was talking rudely to her staff. That left a bad impression for me.

Not a good experience, things to know

This was a few years ago, so not sure if the staff has changed. My loved one said if he was in his room at night and looked out they would yell at him to shut the door and he was scared there. Staff didn't seem to know the rules they had in place and did different things. I didn't like that he didn't have any soap or towel in his bathroom to wash his hands after using the toilet. Head nurse said no soap because they could eat and they were accompanied to the bathroom. They were not. Had hygiene issues. He would sit alone in his room unless I was there. I spent more time there that week and didn't get any rest. At least at home I could get things done. The manager and head nurse were not on the same page for sure.

Not for me.

I'm not going to be truthful about my experience here because it might come back to haunt me. So, with that said...there multiple independent communities being right now. Go there. Enough said. No hard feelings just hard facts.

Do they have management?

My sister resides at this building. I have had multiple instances where I, or my sister have needed to speak with management and no one is available. They seem to always disappear. This is very frustrating.

Not recommended

They have staff in multiple positions taking care of different affairs. Example: Director of Sales [name removed] needs the accompaniment of the Executive Director,[name removed], and Maintenance Man to assist on tours for sales of apartments. Emerson South Collins is in need of a lot of reconstructive foundation work. As time has passed, there has only been a lot of path work done on the building still leaving a lot of problems. When looking into a place to call home make sure the place and note "YOU ARE INTERVIEWING" gives you copies of all paperwork showing their amenities and have them initial and date form. Also, a must that they produce background checks on all tenants as part of rental agreement. At Emerson South Collins, amenity documentation is provided to you but within a month of your rental agreement, amenities are subject to change with a four day notice as I was given. Example: Amenity - 3 meals served a day. Rent started in May '23 and last 4 days in June '23 dinner will no longer be being served. WOW! Housekeeping very quick and through. Better watch out because your sheets on the bed most of the time will be put on side ways. I have just recently left Emerson South Collins due to unhealthy conditions, the fire alarm always going off and the Fire Department always having to be on standby, Health Department called in with food issues in kitchen this year 2024 several occasions, food quality very poor and quantity being fed poor men losing weight like crazy. Right after I moved I was told about a severe BED BUG ISSUE to where the whole 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floor had to be treated, along with tenants removing items from their apartment. I am so glad that I got out of that place in the nick of time and would never ever recommend it to anyone or for anyone to place a parent. Before I left when 12 Oaks took over Emerson South Collins with mighty promises of [name removed], Director, it only has come crashing down to only get renters in the apartments that they can and by whatever means they can!

This place very very unhealty living conditions the staff is dose not care about anyone . We have lived here for 10 months and it gets worst by the day. I have heard from many residents here and thier family that they have had not only medications but ,coats shirts and other items missing from there rooms. This is a very bad place ,I have been told by a resident, that one of the front desk peoples grand kids was wearing her shirt the he family gave her one of a kind

A Disappointing Experience

As someone who values transparency and quality care for our elders, it's with deep regret that I must share my profoundly disappointing experience with this community. My recent visit left me with serious concerns about the standard of care and overall management of this facility. Upon entering, it became evident that the issues extended far beyond aesthetics. The atmosphere felt somber and unwelcoming, devoid of the warmth and vitality one would hope to find in a place meant to be a home for seniors. One of the most alarming aspects was the apparent shortage of staff. It was clear that the few staff present were overwhelmed and unable to provide adequate attention to the residents. the overall communication and transparency from management were sorely lacking. Concerns raised by residents or their families were met with defensiveness or brushed aside, creating an environment of distrust and frustration. It is evident that significant improvements are needed in all aspects of operation.

They will kick your loved one out after the slightest bit of difficulty. I do not recommend.

They kicked my mom out after only 2 months with almost no heads up that there were any issues. They knew my mom's condition before I moved her in and did not let me know they were having issues getting her to cooperate with them helping her. They sprung this issue on me and only gave me 3 weeks to find a new place. I agreed even though by contract I had 30 days. But if they didn't want her there I didn't want her there, so I agreed.

Unacceptable & Disgraceful

Cooper Canyon has been observed for several months and it’s unfortunate to see residents treated without dignity by careless staff members. This facility has the worse caretakers and medical technicians that is not properly trained or educated to handle the various stages and personalities of dementia. It has been witnessed that medical technicians force medication down residents throats despite the residents not wanting to agree to take them. The staff does not use sterile gloves when administering medication and use their dirty hands. I’ve seen medication dropped on the floor and picked back up by staff to give to residents. In addition to inadequate administration of medication, residents are overmedicated to where they are lethargic and comatose. Medications are not administered on time as prescribed by physician orders. Instead, the lazy staff provides medication at their leisure. Property is stolen out of resident rooms by staff and advertised food menu is a facade.
