Accomodating

We chose this community because of recommendations from A Place for Mom. There were several times my mothers bathroom was filthy. My mom needed memory care more than assisted living and they did not want to accommodate. There was no staff around and I had to stay 3 nights due to her wandering. I liked this facility in the beginning, but towards the end it got worse and worse.

The facility was smaller and cozier than some of the others. Dad probably would have been comfortable here, but there was no memory care, which I expected to be required in the future. The person who gave the tour seemed more interested in getting a bed filled, than in making sure the person in that bed was in the right facility.

[name removed] was very nice and informative. This facility just would not be the right place for our mom. Not very clean from what we could see and the rooms were very small and must had to be shared. We would prefer a studio or one bedroom area.

My mom has been there a few months now and isn't loving it. Food is very good. People are very nice but the activities are not what was promised and mom is bored alot of the time. They go to the same two stores every week. [location removed] and [location removed]. Mix it up a bit for Gods sake. The garden club they talked about is a tiny box of plants. People just sitting around for lack of anything to do. Not much entertainment is brought in or taken to. Expected more for this amount of money. Going to start checking out other places

School cafeteria Food, Childish recreational activities, Short Staffed

My parent resides at Dean Hill. The rooms are designed very well, windows in every room with bright sunlight and an emergency call button in every room. The cottages create an atmosphere like home, it is comfortable and clean. The staff is very friendly and caring, although the administration seem more concerned about proffit. The Problems don't seem to improve despite numerous requests and discussions with administrative personnel. Meals: Residents including my parent have made numerous complaints about the food. They use commodity foods that are not the least bit appetizing, unappealing to the eye, bland and tasteless. My parent orders delivery food frequently and prefers a frozen TV dinner to their food. Very disappointing. Activities: Geared toward Children NOT ADULTS, My parent and other residents are insulted by the lack of effort to provide a variety of activities that would be of interest to them. Little to no effort to improve their activity options. Car Sales Mentality: Very disappointed in the tactic they used to collect a $3,000 "Community fee" from us as we are admitting our parent for the first time into an assisted living facility. As we are all crying as we signed the paperwork on the day of admission they spring on us this fee, never discussed before. Being in the vulnerable state we were in, we felt we had no choice but to pay it. Poor Taste Dean Hill. Level of Care/24-Hour Nurse: Staff often short handed, because they can't seem to retain qualified personnel. (The LPN's & CNA's have to set the tables, serve the residents meals, and clean the kitchen area, which prevents them from responding very quickly to residents needs during and near mealtimes) The majority of the staffing problems are during night shift, the LPN on shift can be responsible for 3-5 Cottages (especially on weekends), not one nurse per cottage. The CNA's on weekend nights are often spread between several cottages too, so residents are left in a cottage without any care providers. One particular weekend this happened and the residents emergency call buttons didn't work either, the staff informed administration on a Friday, they did not correct the problem until Monday. Hope this helps loved ones as they make this decision.

Disappointed from day 1

Very disappointed in place overall. Apartment was not clean, did not replace bathroom & kitchen floors as stated. Maintenance manager approved move in with broken shower holder, dirty walls, dirty floors, dirty vents, dust and bug filled upper windows. Halls need some cleaning. So this soured me from day one. Dinning room needs cleaning of tables, vents, and better management, meal time is chaotic. So overall I can not recommend Brookdale to anyone. I'm here now and will be here in hopes, that someone starts listening and looking at what is going on, and starts making some improvements. It was a beautiful place, but someone dropped the ball in the last few years. Here's hoping for change.

I was not comfortable with placing my parent here. I was not crazy about the memory care area. It was like a maze to get to the memory care and overwhelming. The whole area was in a huge building but two floors up and away from everything. I believe they were a lock down area. There was a smell that I did not like and I would not recommend them. The lady who showed me around was very nice and answered my question but this was not the best fit.

Bye bye Greenfield

The staff is very rude. Sometimes ignoring a request. Administration, especially the director does not return telephone calls even after admitting receiving your message. There are many hidden costs that are on the "other services" list. I've never paid the same amount each month. The dollar margin is close, but not the same. Also you need to use a ramp to access the 2nd floor. All other floors can be accessed by ground level or elevator. You can find the same care cheaper elsewhere.

This location is an independent living residence. It does not have any other level of services. Assistance is hired by the resident as needed. The unique rooms and amenities were highlights of our tour when comparing the features with the current location where my mother is living. Folks were very friendly. Home overall is an older style. No hallway rails. Delicious cookies!

I really enjoyed my tour and the experience my mother and I had during my visit. This facility was just more of an assisted living and more care then my mother really had needed.

We toured this community while looking into care options for a loved one. Overall I just wasn't that impressed with what I saw here. Nothing stood out as being bad, but I just didn't get the same positive vibes that I got at some of the other communities we toured. In addition, they were one of the more expensive communities we looked at.

The facility seems to be a good place and I had decided that I wanted my loved one to live there. Unfortunately, she went into congestive heart failure, so it is no longer an option for her to be a resident. The facility still processed my check and I have yet to get my money back. I don't think this is a bad place, but I am not happy with the way they handled the financial part of this.
