Loved One

At first loved this place...it is nice and homey - two buildings with 25 seniors in each. Food - breakfast is the only half decent meal. Lunch which is the heavy meal is usually a dried up pork chop, potato/rice and a dessert. Dinner which is light is soup (usually tomatoe) and old premade sandwiches Forget planned snacks as advised ...unless a planned snack is graham crackers all day and maybe apples Staff-some are lovely - but wish the balance of them had compassion Activities - a joke - unless you play bingo Trips - if the van is not broke down then maybe the dollar store or odd lot If they would improve on all above then I would suggest having a loved one live there BUT right now they need NEW management

I received a phone call from Legacy at Maiden Park and shared with them the care that I am looking for for my dad. They were concerned that my dad has a catheter and that they couldn't assist him with it, if he needed it. I spoke to the nurse at that facility, she confirmed that they could not take him because of this.

I would give this a fair rating for assisted living; however, for memory care, I would rate it poor. It's a small facility, two buildings containing a total of 48 units. There is no secure area for dementia residents. Dementia residents need extra attention and structure, and I don't feel they would get it here if they can just roam around the building with other residents. There is no reception area. People sign in and out in a book on a table by the entrance. Families enter via a keypad by the door. It doesn't give one a strong sense of security for a family member with Alzheimer's. Staff was friendly and personable, but I didn't see activities going on, other than the rosary being said in a group.

Not enough staff

I would not recommend

The first few weeks were good. My mother-in-law liked it there. One thing I noticed were the residents who could not navigate themselves in a wheelchair were pushed to the hallway between the main entrance and dining room or in the dining room and were just left there. Some slumped over. I was glad my mom was somewhat mobile. She had been at Amerisist for one month and when my husband went to her room around 11:00 on Saturday, he found her soaked in urine through her depends, clothes and bed clothes. He also noticed her speech was slurred. He had them call an ambulance. She had a massive stroke and no one at Amerisist noticed. She died one week later. I don't feel they have enough staff nor we'll trained staff to handle properly non ambulatory or verbally impaired residents. Two weeks ago I wrote to the CEO and stated our disappointment & ask for a refund. As of today, I have received no response.

Very Poor Dining Experience

The biggest problem here is the dining room. Food good one time, poor another. Time for service is very poor. Sitting is predetermined. Trying to get a refill on a drink is a real problem. Clean place, but I found housekeeping to be minimal. Staff is great; dining staff needs a lot of improvement. They keep promising to work on it, but they don't seem to have much luck.

I don't think they had enough staff.

We heard that some people were having problems with bugs. The ripped out the rugs and put in something that was a non-rugThe staff was very friendly for the most part. The doctor was no help, he wouldn't do anything. Sometimes I took her to out-patient. There were a lot of people that my family member really enjoyed and cared for. Some of the girls would tell her she was out of her medicine and not give it to her and then it would show up later that there was some left. They would ring the bells for the nurses and it would take forever for them to get there. I don't think they had enough staff. There was always something going on for activities. They always had notices and trips and things going on. She did not care for the food at all, she was used to her home cooking, she would say it was bland. A lot of it is communication, whenever I would talk to the director I worked with, she would say I didn't hear that or I didn't know about that. I would go to the head nurse and complain about her medicine or put in a work order and the director didn't know about it. I picked it based on my location. They only had an hour window for meal times.

It was kind of dirty and smelly so my dad and I were both pretty turned off by that. It was more expensive and a lot of the rooms didn't have a full bath, just a powder room and you had to go down the hall to take a shower. I though for the cost you should at least have a shower in your room. This might be a good thing for some people but at Atria we saw a lot of people coming out with their dogs and cats. My brother is allergic to cats so if my mother went there he wouldn't be able to visit her. Again, that could be a good thing for some people. It was just dingy and smelly, especially after seeing one that was so clean and bright.

Not Pleased.....

There is always a revolving door of staff. Very upset over the poor quality of food served. My parent is there and they have been through numerous help/cooks within a short period of time. Very poor housekeeping there. Pay a very high rate for loved one to be there and stuff that should be included they don't even do, so please don't be fooled from their brochure. They do not provide snacks, and the housekeeping is very close to null. But on a plus side, the activities director is great. But the management is left to be desired. Very poor management.

Memory care assistance lacking

My father-in-law was there for a two-week respite. He was supposed to have a shared room and the day we arrived, his potential roommate was very aggressive in threatening my father-in-law. I was ready to turn around and leave but staff seemed very responsive at that point and made arrangements for another room. It seemed promising that staff was able to quickly resolve a potentially serious problem. However, the actual personal care with grooming appeared non-existent. After 2 days there, I let staff know that he had not changed his socks or underwear yet. After 5 days, I told them again. After 10 days, he still had not used a second pair of socks or underwear. He needs very direct guidance and staff was told this on admission. After day 10, I notified the management team and they tried to tell me that my father-in-law was taking his dirty laundry out of the laundry basket and putting it away. He has never done this in his life so I don't know why he would suddenly start doing this. However, even if he did, they have an obligation to make sure that his clothing is clean. Each day we visited, his facial hair was longer than 5 o'clock shadow. When he is at our house, he is very conscientious about shaving every morning. Staff stated that he could not keep his electric razor in his room but that they would make sure he got it for morning care. Each time we visited, I got the razor from the staff and my husband helped him shave. I am an RN and have worked with memory care residents and this was not acceptable. My concern is that if staff is neglecting things that should be very obvious - clean clothes, not shaved - what might they be doing with regard to those things that are not as obvious?

Absolutely terrible!!

Started out as a perfect fit! Staff has been reduced! Aides and servers are doing double duty because all staff has been reduced!! Can't keep track of meds anymore and are asking residents to call Family to bring meds! Beds are not being made! Food is terrible! Residents are afraid of complaining because it might make it worse! My Relative wants to "run away" we are looking at other facilities ASAP!

As a neighbor, I have concerns for the safety of residents at Hampshire Home. Residents have escaped the facility and shown up at our house which is a hundred yards through the woods next to a steep gorge. Anytime we have gone to the facility to discuss with them, there is no one around. You can walk into the facility without getting acknowledged and walk around at your leisure. We have had to seek out staff in order to talk to someone. They no longer have a sign near the roadway, so medical services and visitors show up at the wrong location. Unfortunately the home is owned by a company that has at least 23 other facilities so this one may not be a priority.

Not for Mom!

The Assisted Living section might be ok, I don't know but the Memory Care is Awful! They have hardly any staff which makes them keep anyone who at least shows up to work. The woman on the day shift was the worst! Rough and non caring. I pulled my mom out of there after the first week! Do not leave your loved one in this place!

Room change with out notification plus [removed] +more a month, food very little. And cold no water on table ask for two hamburgers did not get dinner. For enhanced living staff did not engage with family member. I was there most days and only once did staff enter to empty garbage. Not shown where snacks were, advertised many activities, and three chefs. They did not have a microwave to heat food or get hot beverages. Shown table set up like restaurant and brought up 3 chefs. Family member left without permission. Ended in hospital. Place would not take family member back. A lot of info not presented to me. They just present themselves this would be good place. "A good place for mom" I myself have no desire to ever go into a place when needed.
