We just had to take my mom out of the Atria /south Setauket because basically she got kicked out because they could not take care of all of her needs, so that was a little bit disappointing for the family.

The staff are wonderful

I am really pleased with Brookdale Brighton. It is a very clean facility. In fact they were cleaning the carpets and upholstery when I was visiting recently. She is getting a really good value right now by signing by July 31st. There are a lot activities there. Unfortunately she does not really participate in them. Everything was a positive experience here. When she has any type of problem it gets resolved very quickly. The staff are wonderful. They are always willing, able, and happy to see you.

Nice place, overall!

Overall we're pleased with how things have gone with Brookdale Brighton. They keep the place looking clean and well kept at all times, and the people here are very friendly. My loved one has said they also do a great job with the food, which is nice to hear! Really the only thing I'd like to see them improve on is to be slightly more cooperative and coordinated with their in-house care service, otherwise I've got no complaints!

I am happy with them.

I am happy with them. There are a couple of things I am not real happy about. The staff is great, but they could do more in terms of activities. Most of it is boring, they do the same things all the time. The one thing that really bothers me is that they don't have walk in showers, I think any place that has a population that is mostly over eighty should have walk in showers. They charge a non refundable 2000 community fee. They were able to work with me to make this a more affordable choice.

beautiful place, but...

We really loved the place a lot in general. Our only issue was that towards the end my father fell out of his bed and had to be taken to the hospital. After taken there we went back a short while later to his room to gather his belongings and found that [removed]. The room had been cleaned and there were people coming in and out of there, and someone in the process took the [removed] and walked away with it. That was disappointing and I think they could have handled the situation better when we raised it to their attention. Other than that it is a very nice place. The home is beautiful.

New home for MOM

We recently moved my mother-in-law to her new "apartment". Everyone there was very welcoming. The management team matched her up with another woman that recently moved there and they have become good friends. There was only 1 concern that we had with Crimson Ridge....it was a challenge to straighten out her meds and to make sure we had ample time to order her OTC items Once this was taken care of, it has been smooth sailing and Mom has adjusted nicely.

Room costs have risen too much !!

Mom has lived here for about 4 years. The place is nice, the people are great. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The problem is the cost. They have raised the room cost 30 percent in the last 3 years. The room cost has risen over $1000 per month !! They have made it unaffordable to live here, and honestly the room, care and amenities are not a $1000 a month better than 3 years ago. We're now looking at other options and facilities.

There wasn't anything I really didn't like about it. We were very happy. We really liked the friendliness, the attention she got, the place was very, very clean. The aides were great, the nurses were great. My mother was not there for very long and did not participate in activities. It was very easy to my house and very easy to get to. There really wasn't anything they could improve on.

New Resident

My dad just moved in to the independent living section of Atria South Setauket. Megan and Jennifer and all the staff we interacted with while making our selection were very friendly and understanding about the needs of seniors who want to maintain their independence. The staff is long term which says alot about the community as a whole. The food is very good and plentiful. The only thing my dad had to say of a 'negative' nature was that he wished there weren't so many old people. He is young at heart and very inquisitive, curious and busy. thanks for all your help Atria South Setauket

My loved one stayed here for a couple...

My loved one stayed here for a couple weeks, and there were things we were happy with, and things we weren't. On one hand, my loved one looked like she hadn't had proper hygiene care, but on the other hand, she didn't have any bed sores or anything. They called me while I was gone, and touched base with me. They offered activities and had a lot of things going on. There were a couple issues. For one, they charge you for the day they arrive AND the day they leave. So, even if they are only there for a couple hours the last day, you still have to pay the whole day's fees. Also, some belongings were lost during her stay... which didn't feel too good. However, we liked how homey it felt. My loved one seemed to be very comfortable there. There were some things that irritated her, but she seemed to be well cared for and we were pleased. I would consider having her stay there again if I needed it.

Hopefully a Great Place for Mom

My mother has not yet moved in, but we expect that to happen next Tuesday, April 8. I am very optimistic because it is a somewhat small facility that will not be overly confusing to someone in an already confused state. The staff there has been very accommodating to our needs and I expect that to continue. I like the homey atmosphere compared to other facilities that seemed large and overwhelming. I am basing my review on many visits to the facility and what I've seen when there.

The staff are all very helpful and accommodating.

Some of the menus aren't very pleasing to my friend. The food is not low sodium it's more low carbohydrate. There is a good variety of things to do. They are able to suggest ideas of what residents want to do. The personnel are all very, very good. The staff are all very helpful and accommodating. They call everyday and check on them to make sure they're ok.

Not Perfect But Good With A Very Caring Staff

My dad has been living at Atria since the summer. I can't say enough good things about the aides there. They are pleasant, friendly, helpful. The majority of the people that work there are great.....including the dining room staff, medical technicians, maintenance, cleaning staff and the receptionists at the front desk. Any complaints I have are with the administration and the nurse. I'm really not happy with the nurse there. I know others feel the same way. She's not very friendly and acts annoyed and unhelpful when approached much of the time. I don't like the situation but since she has very little actual contact with the residents, and the aides are so wonderful (and they are the ones who have the most contact with the residents) I am willing to overlook it. One of the drawbacks to the place, and maybe that's typical of all assisted living facilities, is that there really is no nursing care available for the residents, and no doctor that comes periodically. If you think your loved one is going to be in a place where their medical needs are taken care of, you would be wrong. But like I said, I think that's pretty typical for most assisted living facilities. They have good concerts for the residents on a weekly basis. There is also a range of activities though it seems that only women go to them. It would be great if they could figure out some activities to get the men more involved. One thing you should know (they don't tell you upfront) is that every year the fee automatically goes up several hundred dollars. It's not perfect, but there are a lot of good things about Atria......and since, in my opinion, good care is the most important thing, I do recommend Atria Penfield.

Nice looking facility

We toured this location when we were looking into care options for our loved one. This was a very nice looking facility, and all the staff we met were friendly and helpful. However, the memory care here seemed more like an addition, and we really wanted somewhere where the memory and dementia care unit were the main focus.

It's clean, and when you compare them to all the other communities in the area that we were looking in they had the best value.

It's clean, and when you compare them to all the other communities in the area that we were looking in they had the best value. I don't really have much involvement when it comes to the activities so I can't say much there. The meals are the biggest problem as far as what they serve and their menu choices. Anne Grey runs the community and she is absolutely wonderful to deal with. If you have a resident that needs help with medication, just know that the aides are the ones who do that, not the R.N.
