Wonderful place!

My loved one was unfortunately only here a short time, but during that The Gables at Brighton really impressed me! They were absolutely phenomenal in so many ways. The staff were all incredibly friendly and caring, from the management to the caregivers, and they obviously really cared about their residents. The facility itself was beautiful, and my loved one really loved her room. I had family members who were totally against the move, but after seeing the place were very impressed. We did, however, run into an issue that soured the experience somewhat. My loved one passed fell ill and passed only a week after moving in, and this was in the middle of the month. When we toured they told us in order to get the room we'd have to pay for the whole month even if we moved in in the middle, and after she passed they told us there was a 30 day notice after a resident dies, so we ended up paying for 2 months for a 9 day stay. This was a complete surprise to us, as I don't recall hearing anything about it during the (admittedly hectic) touring process. I understand and accept the reasoning for the policy, but the fact that it came out of left field and was not explained to us really was quite a negative shock. But I really would recommend this place, it is wonderful, and I hope this review prevents the 30 day notice after death policy from being a shock to another family!

My brother and I could not have found a better place for our Mom. We were blown away with the place. The apartment was bigger then we 1st thought, every thing was clean, people were friendly and welcoming. Don't know how many of the residents stopped us to ask if they were getting a new neighbor and told my Mom that she was going to LOVE it there. Beth and Fran could not have been more helpful with answering all our questions. Every time we go now and the staff sees us they always ask if there was anything else they can do for us or our Mom. This was a perfect fit for her!

A good stay.

The price is concerning for those on a fixed income. She had absolutely no complaints. It was a respite stay, so she was only there a couple of weeks. I didn't know they offered that. The food was good, and they had activities going on. It was clean and the staff were very friendly. There wasn't really anything that could have been done any better that I could think of.

Very nice place!

We're very pleased with this community, everything has been great! It's a very nice looking facility, everything is well kept and clean, and the staff are all friendly and helpful. The meal service has been great, the food is very good and they've got a lot of variety. They have all sorts of on-site activities to keep everyone entertained, although I would like to see them go on more off-site outings.

The staff is wonderful and met prior to her arrival to discuss her needs and how to best meet/deal with them. Everyone has gone out of their way to help my mom feel at home- a stark contrast to her former facility. The food is top notch as well. My mother has been there a week today and loves it already.I would highly recommend this facility.

For most families this would be a really good place to go.

The room was very nice, and the people were really nice. It seemed like a nice place to be, the food was good, and the nurses that worked with him were good. For most families this would be a really good place to go. Just make sure the care level is a good fit. We had health issues when he moved in, that were missed when they evaluated him. When we had some of our problems they went to bat for us and made contacts around town, and kind of went out of their way for us. I think most families would find it is a nice place, a clean place. From the interactions I saw the people all seem to be happy. The food was good, I spoke with the chef there and he seemed to be on top of things. They went way out of their way to try to accommodate him. They had a little Gazebo where people could sit and have snacks and things, I really liked that. Their evaluation process needs to be re-thought. The nurse that evaluated him said that he was a good fit, that was not the case and we were charged for the minimal amount of time he was there, which was unfortunate.

It's wonderful my dad is very happy.

It's wonderful my dad is very happy. Every day, every hour, all the time there are things to do. The food is superb, he raves about how great the chef is, and they get to pick what they want from the menu. They take him to church on sundays. He is just being taken care of they do his laundry and everything. I feel great! I can go on vacation and know he's being taken care of.

Would like more activities

I really love it but there's a few faults. My dad loves it there but he's bored, he's 98 and very good mentally, but he would like more card games and things like that, they don't do enough as far as I'm concerned. They have game nights but they just put the board games on the table and expect people to come down to them. I think it's very neat, he has had some money stolen, but that's going to happen anywhere you go and it's his fault. I told him to put it in an account someplace and sure enough it was gone. I think it's super clean, the meals are delicious, I do like the fact that they have a doctor on call there, she has been unavailable since he's been there because they were training, but we have a meet and greet next week. They found some early congestive heart failure, but it would be nice, if they found something, to have a doctor on call because in the bad winter, when you're 98, getting dressed and going out is difficult. The transportation is wonderful and Randy would take him anywhere but it would be a hardship on him. He did like the fact that they would guarantee him that if he ran out of money, because they don't take medicaid, that they would let him stay there on what he brings in. Right now I'm thinking he'll live another 7 years and at that stage of the game, if he really does have a problem with finances it wouldn't be a problem having him there on what he takes in; so that's a huge peace of mind.

We toured here and really liked it. This would have been where we moved our Aunt if the costs were the same as in Georgia. Sadly, they're not. The people seem happy and we saw more interaction between the people that lived here than any other place. It was lived in - ie needed a vacuuming but they were working on that. The staff seemed good, honest and to enjoy it. It was really everything we were looking for. It's not new and flashy but it's about the residents' happiness and we think our Aunt would have been very happy here. My wife is a nurse at a senior living facility (very exclusive/nice one) and she got all the right answers to her questions. We were sad that we it didn't make financial sense to move our Aunt. Don't remember the exact cost - so don't take my guess as fact. It was more than $3800 that we pay in GA.

Wonderful activities director

100%! She loved it, the staff went out of their way. She really hated to leave but it's an independent living and she wsa getting to the point where she needed more care. They had music but they had a good activities director. She always had something going on, whether they participated or not was another matter but there was always something for them. A lot of our parishoners are there and she took a bus load of them to the festival and she was always willing to take them out. They provide really only one meal, a continental breakfast, a lot of starchy stuff, they cleaned once a week and they were supposed to do a major thing once a year but I don't think they did that but we were alright with it.

No complaints - 24 hour service

Other places we went to we observed people diong activities with no real engagement with their residents. At Amerisist of Manassas the person running the activity has everyone fully engaged, laughing, enjoying it, there are one-on-one interactions. We chose Amerisist because they fully involve their residents in activities and because of the smallness of the place. There are about 23 residents there compared to other places that had 80 or more. The residents greet me when I visit and seem very happy.

Thank you Amy and all the staff at the gables explaining what my new life will be like here at the gables I continue to learn , all my questions are promptly addressed as I learn how to begin my new life living independently...I could list many people who have helped. But all in all everyone has been doing thier best to help me. From filling my spiritual needs to nutritional preferences. I have gained 20lbs + up from the $120 lbs I came here feeling stronger with a better appetite and what is comparable to 5 star dining and service I still have much to learn but with the support of all the staff I am learning the ropes so to speak I am told it takes a few weeks to adapt and I feel I am moving forward daily .......the fellow residents are warm carving and ha do I much better job rembering my name than I. I feel, like I have a new family I every day I learn more and meet more residences...Trying to find the time to,participate in the many opportunity a to meet and share......I have so much to learn...
