Westmont Living

Apartment size is great. Staff is great. Food/dining is good. Activities are good. We are very happy with our experience. My mom is fitting in well and the staff are great to her.

Facility is clean. Nice courtyard. Most of the caregivers are very kind and attentive. The activities director is amazing. The nurse practitioners have changed 3 times in the year that my mom has been there and that has been frustrating. And communication is a bit difficult. We are hoping the new director of caregivers will be more proactive in organized and consistent communication.

Staff has been helpful although there's a big turnover rate. They have lots of activities and a wide variety of activities. The food in the restaurant is plentiful and geared towards a wide variety of dietary needs and restrictions. The room is a studio, with a big window, mini kitchen including a refrigerator and plenty of storage space. The bathroom is a good size as well as the closet. All in all, it's a good deal.

Overall cleanliness is excellent. However, charges for housekeeping I don't really understand as the housekeeping is so inconsistent on an individual level. Also, the quality of it varies particularly on the weekends, but since this is a problem with all facilities, I would say they do better than most the med techs are very good. The food is excellent. I am disappointed in the outside living spaces. They are poorly furnished, and under used given the incredible outdoor environment of coastal California, I think the residence would thrive if they got outdoors, more often, including my own husband.

Note a lot of these are not at the top as Westmont of SB is still going thru newbie pains, but the staff are doing best they can to update and correct things as quickly as they can and are open to listening to residents, but I believe sometimes their hands are tied by corporate level sadly. Westmont of Santa Barbara has a charming atmosphere, and the people are most welcoming, both staff and residents. You'll often be greeted with a smile.

There is a nice sense of community here and yes, I would recommend Westmont of Carmel Valley to other families based on the experience so far.

The med techs are not very responsive to questions. I don't like the location.

Food is a major complaint.... lack of staff causes long waits for ordering, food is often cold & not the best tasting. Another thing that I was displeased with is that I thought a price increase would be annual on the anniversary of move in... we got a large rate increase in January (5 months after they moved in) and the rate increase was different for each client, not a standard % increase.

The staff are friendly at Westmont. Westmont is owned by a Canadian corporation and is only one property in a large portfolio. As such, they care about one thing, the bottom line, profits! This makes it difficult at Westmont because the resident to staff ratio is too low resulting in slow response times. They are overworked and underpaid. And turnover is high. All that to say they do the best they can.

The price is fantastic and the tenants are all so wonderful and friendly. The Med Techs are awesome and very attentive… The caregivers are precious, but the person in charge of the caretakers & med techs is aloof and hard to get in touch with and is not as organized as the girl who was there before. The food is good, but they've changed cooks and the way my dad says it is "everything taste the same". But it's still good. The facility is absolutely stunning! Everything about the facility is awesome but they don't do enough for religious people especially Catholics. They have a Catholic church service, but their bus driver is not there a lot of times, and if you are unable to walk you cannot get to church, which is quite important for Catholics. That's been disappointing the last few months.

Westmont has some good and not so good aspects. The apartments themselves are great with full kitchens and private washer and dryers. I enjoy my fellow residents and most of the staff. Much of the problems stem from short staffing issues and difficulty getting anyone to address concerns. The food could be more nutritious. Meals lack enough healthy vegetables and there is little effort to address dietary concerns.

The staff there for the most part is very kind and accommodating to the residents. Activities director, front desk, handyman, are all very helpful. I had some issues with the director and a few senior staff at the beginning, communication was not great. But the director has left I believe since then.

I only rated overall as a 4 as the communication could be better for memory care, although my mom moved in under a bit of emergency situation so I didn't perhaps get the lay of the land before she was transferred. I am still trying to understand some of the processes, who I should call, etc. Everybody is so friendly. My mom has not had anything bad to say about the staff, and comments that they are very kind and they seem very attentive when I am there visiting. She likes having her own room and seems to like the food.

I placed my mom here when her dementia got too bad for her to continue living independently. I toured 5 different facilities and Westmont was by far the best. It has a lot of amenities and the staff are great. Any concern I've had was immediately addressed. They keep me informed of any issues or problems. I love that my mom can get her hair done and get a manicure/pedicure without leaving. They also have a dr that comes once a week if you have insurance they accept. [name removed], the case manager always makes time for me whether I'm just checking or asking about something my mother has told me that needs clarification. It's not an easy decision to put a loved one in a facility, but it makes it easier when you know they are being taken care of and you don't have to worry so much.

We expected a little more after we moved Mom into the facility. We were told that she would have open meals for the first 90 days and they encouraged us to come in and have dinner with her. Which we did on occasion before she got her meal tickets we were charged so that was kind of strange. Also, she was supposed to have a concierge show her around. They were missing each other. She had some errands to run and nobody ever followed up. All in all, it's a great place. However, the promise at the time of the lease signing is not how it played out.

Westmont at San Miguel Ranch, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience! From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by friendly staff who made me feel welcome and at home. The community itself is beautifully maintained, with modern amenities that promote a comfortable and engaging lifestyle. I loved exploring the spacious living areas and common facilities, which are designed to encourage social interaction among residents. During the tour, I also learned about the various activities and programs offered, which cater to diverse interests and needs. It's clear that the staff is dedicated to creating a vibrant and supportive community environment. Just a little bit pricey for our budget and the care that my father needed.

Their main goal is to make my mom and the other residence as comfortable as possible and to try to interact with other residents. There have been times when their food shows up lukewarm or sometimes even cold so that is if anything one of the complaints that we do hear from other residents at the facilities, the food sometimes But I don't want to base everything that else that they do for mom on just the food right!

The activities received an N/A because my loved one did not participate in the activities. The facilities are nice and the rooms are a good size. I think the only issue we had was with the staff that handed out medication. We needed a prescription for things like Tylenol. It was a bit frustrating.
