I think that their staff could better coordinate the care. They are friendly and helpful, but could use better coordination. I think they need to have more activities, or their existing activities need to be ratcheted up. They need to improve the level of their activities. Make them more sophisticated. They need to improve the assisted living dining area. It is very depressing.

The only concern is that when they were Heatherwood, the food was really good, Now that they have changed partners and catering companies, I get lots of complaints about food, sometimes it's not even the same thing as what's on the menu. The maintenance guys come really quickly. One other concern is that one of the cleaning lady doesn't come on the right days, and she says she'll come the next day and she doesn't come. She likes the activities. The transportation is really beneficial. Overall she is happy with where she is at. The social worker, JoAnne is excellent, too.

This wasn't our first choice, our first choice had no room. This is working out okay though. The staff has been very nice. They seem to keep the people that want to be busy, doing stuff and being busy. It's clean, and the staff is friendly. They are a pretty nice place. They seem to put out good food. I am not a huge fan of the way the dining is set up though. There are only two meals included, you have to pay extra if you want to eat three times a day, and they don't have a salad bar. Other than that it's working out okay.

Carmel Village was a miracle for mom and dad after their house flooded. They got an apartment and moved in one day with a level 1 care. I had a couple of disappointments when MOM'S medications were messed up (not the right dosages, not given with food as directed etc.). The caregivers except for one want to just check boxes, escort to meals and dump them. I asked several times to escort to activities, but they don't. I asked that dad would be taken to sit in the sun which he loves, but that doesn't happen. I wish they cared more as the title suggests. An epidemic that lasted 10 days where everything was shut down and folks weren't allowed outside their rooms caused my parents to be further depressed. My dad started sleeping all hours of the day, and my mom was lonely and depressed. I still appreciate that they're in a safe place in case of an emergency but for the monthly price that's paid, a higher level of care would be expected. Also, the food can use some enhancements.

The placement service was helpful at the start of my search. I chose this community because it felt smaller, clean, and welcoming. The staff is generally kind, and there are plenty of activities. Overall, it is a good facility, though at times I feel like I have to closely oversee both my family member’s care and the facility itself. Moving from out of state came with challenges, and some assistance I was told would be available turned out to be misleading. Communication has been inconsistent, especially around medical coverage, orientation for family members, outside services, evaluations, and billing. Several issues could have been avoided with clearer information and follow-through. Despite the frustrations, we have stayed because no facility is without issues. I now understand how things operate here and feel comfortable advocating when needed. My family member requires strong advocacy, and I take that responsibility seriously.

Overall experience: the caregivers work hard to care for patients, but it's sometimes hard to communicate. Example: 2 caregivers prepared my wife to be fed her lunch. Wife complained about pain in shoulder and a meds distributor was called for. Wife has Parkinson’s. An assessment revealed no clear action to be taken. Then they left without saying anything. After waiting l was told the caregivers were serving lunch. Bringing in resources to deal with physical therapy, nurse assessments, and some activities rates 5.

I would advise families to read the contract carefully. The Lodge uses language that attempts to make the family or POA liable for costs if the resident's resources are inadequate. I would also consider how active my loved one is, the Lodge does not have much space to move around in and the activities really lacked imagination when my loved one was there. Finally, the food was terrible. I would consider my loved ones behavior issues. Explore their protocol for handling outbursts and defiance. These are common dementia behaviors and my experience was this facility wasn't very prepared for them.

Positives: all staff members are friendly and helpful. Negatives: New in-coming employees need more training, food could be better and better cleaning of the dinning area.

I am a current resident and I’m remaining anonymous because I still live here and don’t want this review to be a source of friction. I moved in over four years ago with high hopes, and it has been a disappointment overall. Maintenance is poor, the staff makes a lot of promises, but doesn’t follow through, however the worst part is over the years the food has gotten worse and worse. I used to eat there a lot but I never have any meals there. The portions are small, unappetizing and served very unattractively.

The facility could be utilized better. Because it has only two elevators , movement through the facility is slow. Also, there was some turnover in staffing that causes some disruption

The facility is nice. The food is okay. The staff are very friendly but they are under staffed. My wife is disabled and sometimes she has to wait up to thirty minutes to get help. They Are friendly but need more caregivers, especially during the morning hours.

I wish they had more exercise options. Other facilities seem to have many more opportunities for fitness classes. Otherwise the main drawback is the location- it is next to railroad tracks and strip malls with homeless encampments nearby, but when you are inside the facility the experience is very good.

Housekeeping for residents is minimal, and staffing levels are variable. When Dad first moved in they didn't have a functioning bus for six months, and once they finally got it fixed it was three or four more months before they could hire a driver for it.

Memory care rooms are older, air conditioning had to be put on manually. My Dad was not capable of asking. Room temperature was very warm when afternoon sun came. I would have liked more communication with staff at move in. Had no knowledge of daily schedule/expectations. My Dad had end of life dementia. I expected staff to handle this. Hospice communicated symptoms more clearly. My Dad was at Carmel Village for only one month. This was the most difficult experience I've had since leaving my children at daycare for the first time. That was 38 years ago. Staff needs to be more compassionate about this experience.
