A Place for Mom has scored Waltonwood Senior Living with 8.8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 97 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Waltonwood Senior Living has 321 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.2 out of 5.
The home is nice, however the senior management tends to change often. Decided to move my love one to group home as the care was far superior and cost was much less. As of date have not received refund of pro-rated meals and meds etc. Should be a substantial check but hasn't showed yet. Also, I was block out of the portal online acct, so checking online is not an option. A few things like this have happened over the last year.

This community markets well. What you see is not reality however. The long list of activities are a rarity and what is offered is not quality - just time fillers. . A pop in visit and not a scheduled visit would provide a clearer picture.

My father was very weak when he was at waltonwood and needed two people to assist him with transfers. Every time we asked the staff to get him into his wheelchair they acted as if we were bothering them and they were rude. He only stayed two weeks until we found another facility with caring staff

Our family had an in person tour with Waltonwood Twelve Oaks and the reason we gave them 2 stars is because they were under construction in their independent section. We did not get to see much of the facility and they really should not have been conducting tours - lots of confusion.

My parents moved here in [date removed]. The food was good with a lot of options. Then Covid hit. They have done a horrible job of adapting to the new realities. They can't keep staff, haven't had a culinary director in months, have seriously cut corners on the quality of food they order and can't cook basic edible meals. They cut housekeeping in 1/2 allowing only 30 mins a week to clean a 2 bedroom. I could go on but am only allowed 1000 characters. They just sent a letter to everyone raising rent by $100 per person and also increasing by 7% at my parents November renewal. Thats 10% in six months. We have contacted an attorney. Morale among residents is very low but most would have a difficult time moving again. Upper Management has been poor at every turn. My parents and I would not make the same decision today. Very sad because this place was very good, had potential, and the staff are still great, but they have nothing to work with.

They have not changed my filter since I have been here. I asked them to remove a birds nest from near my window and they have not removed it. The staff are lovely and the people are wonderful however, the property is poorly managed. They need more help and people to keep up the maintenance. A lot of the staff are unvaccinanted and some of them have very little training. They need to update if they are going to advertise as luxury it needs to match. I feel like they need to make a maintenance system to document what is needed instead of going to the concierge. I would not recommend it.

I felt the community wasn't doing the best job in care for my loved one. The turnover in this community is high, due to the community expanding too fast. The turnover included the management team. Waltonwood even misplaced my loved one's clothes at one point.

We felt their priorities at this community were more about the money, and no matter how much money we spent the quality of the care for the residents would never change. this community was kept fairly clean, and the friendliness of the staff members varied. We did not think this community was worth the money,

I have lived in your community apartments for nine years . I have been extremely extremely disappointed in the type of services that I am offered . Three maintenance man for the entire building just do not do it. . In my first year the air conditioning was not working for almost entire summer, the next year I had a gas leak and they had to replace my whole bedroom wall all taking three months or four months. When it wasn’t happening there I had mice visiting me at my apartment. I also had quite a problem with spiders. The food is just so so ,once in a while they surprise you with a very good meal. The people are indeed very Friendly but have a little bit of a hard time with Honesty!! So please do yourself a favor and Beware and don’t be blown away by the beauty.

Be aware that Waltonwoods does not allow the residents to choose what home care, health care they want. They will not allow Henry Ford Home Care or Beaumont in to their facility unless they get Accushield which of course is more money. It is not independent living if the residents cannot choose their health care. This seems to go against the Patient Bill of Rights. It makes me wonder if they receive a kickback for the money that Oakland Home Care provides. This is very upsetting, when you are already upset that your parents were in the hospital and need good continuity of care. I don't think they have the best interest of the patient in mind.

For a high end facility, the food is simply awful. The choices are poor and repetitious. The food is very salty and lacking in taste. Often times it is simply inedible. The best meal they offer is Sunday Brunch. Be aware if you are testing out the facility's meal on a Sunday it is not reflective of the weekday meals. I find I supplement my mother's meals with food from home as she does not go down for dinner very often. What a waste of money. Meetings with the kitchen manager have yielded no change in the quality of the food. Buyer beware.

I noticed much of the reviews are family members writing because they visited a family member there or placed a family member there. I am placing an actual review from my family member who asked me to do this for him. Here is a real bonafide tenate review: SENIOR CITIZENS BEWARE!!! If you or a loved one is going to move into a senior citizen complex soon and you are considering Waltonwood at Lakeside PLEASE read my review first. There are several things you need to know about. Waltonwood comes across picture perfect, and for the amount of money seniors must pay to live here - it better be perfect, but it is not. First, they do not have 24 hour first aid individuals on staff (at least this location does not). Second, their food is unsatisfactory more times than not it is cold and tasteless. Again, one would think for the amount of money we spend here we would (at the very least) have something delicious to eat. Third, before renting a unit here I specifically asked about the average cost for heat and electric I was told for both it would range about $100.00 a month. My costs are DOUBLE this. Fourth, look at the cold air return mine is blowing cold air back into the living room. I bought a floor thermometer to test this the floor temp holds around 57 degrees to 64 degrees even though my thermostat is set at 72 degrees. I have complained many times, which brings me to the management practices at Waltonwood. Keep in mind when leasing here (or most places for that matter) they are salesmen. The manager at Waltonwood has told me for the past several months they are "working on my temperature issue" but I have yet heard back and have yet had anyone physically take care of the problem. I have found once you sign the lease and they have your money they treat you like you don't matter and discontinue answering any of your questions. I have talked to other residents here at Waltonwood and they too have issues with the establishment, but they are afraid to speak up. I just don’t think that is fair, so I am taking matters into my own hands. These are just a few of my issues that I feel you should look into before spending Big Big Bucks and receiving SO LITTLE in return!

Staffing needs to increased, patients need to be clean, the bathrooms need to be cleaned, etc. Care is what matters, not how nice the place looks. Don't go there.

The food there is terrible and no choices for diabetics. They always run out of food, leaves no choices to eat. They have lack of caretakers, one floor has 28 patients with one caretaker for all of them. They take 25 to 40 minutes to assist the patient who can't walk to go to the bathroom. They mistreat the patients by watching them fall to the floor with no assistance. But if you complain you will get punished. This is so sad that we treat people like this, when they can't take care of themselves. You pay $[removed] a month and get no care. Not a good place for your family members.

I was a resident of Waltonwood for 2 months in 2023 and as it turned out, that was 2 months too long. Throughout my stay, I experienced numerous examples of subpar service and care along with inept administrators. Waltonwood’s three administrators see nothing, hear nothing, and know nothing. While there were times the aides were helpful, unfortunately, this was not the norm. There were multiple occasions when a call for assistance (ex. to transfer from my wheelchair, attend to personal needs, to assist after I took a fall) took over 20 minutes for an aide to arrive. When I tried to address this, both an aide and the night-time concierge told me that the call button was for “emergencies only”. The administration admitted that they were understaffed and at times had only one aide to approximately 30 residents. One of the administrators, “[name removed]”, employs bullying tactics and can be retaliatory with residents. After I had a fall on the slippery floor in my bathroom, “[name removed]” was combative and hostile

Agree with other reviews about the lack of care in the memory care facility and can not recommend. Our mother lived there for three months before being transferred to another facility . Area was short staffed and care giving lax. Caregivers did not seem to care about their job or taking care of mom. Basic grooming suffered. . Bathrooms did not have clean linens when needed. Personal clothing (clearly labeled with name) went missing. . Telephone and e-mail inquires were not responded to for one or two days and only after multiple attempts. Room condition was poor with flooding and electrical outages. Our reality was a very different story form the rosy picture painted before move in.

Beware of high ratings that are written by employees of a facility/business, many not even admitting to being employees in their reviews. My father was a resident of this facility for over 5 years..3 1/2 years in independent living and 1 1/2 years in assisted living. The independent living "side" is fine, a pleasant community with very nice and reasonably priced senior living apartments. The assisted living "side" was a living nightmare for pretty much the entire time. Full disclosure..My Dad is a dementia patient and a difficult one, but as I have since learned not all that unusual. There were pockets of excellence in the staff, but Waltonwood was never able to provide suitable and consistent care for my Dad in the time that he was there. We needed to hire outside caregivers to assure that he got showered and dressed. In his final months there, as his condition deteriorated he would spend days in his own excrement.

My dad had Alzheimer’s. Waltonwood’s strengths are independent/assisted living. For memory care the majority of staff didn’t understand Alzheimer’s. Many staff were frequently sitting in a corner of the common TV room on their phones. When I would arrive to see my father and asked questions about how he was doing, it seemed to disturb them from their leisure. Those familiar with Alzheimer’s know, many patients wander in the evening/night. I got frequent calls from staff telling me that they couldn’t keep an eye on my father and that they weren’t staffed for this. They warned if things didn’t change we would need to spend the night or pay for a nightly sitter. This was on top of paying [fee removed]. Thankfully we moved him to a facility that understood/is able to care for people w/memory loss. Waltonwood is a large facility that has memory care because they need to offer it, but they do not specialize in it. We were treated poorly by staff, as they felt my dad was a nuisance.
