We were not very impressed with our tour of this community. There was a strong overwhelming smell of urine in the upstairs area of the community. Also the temperature was a very high, and that did not make the smell any better. The staff was respectful, and kind. Everyone was friendly to my family, and I. However this was not the community for my mother, and her needs.

I would not recommend this community.

The community seemed understaffed during mom's short stay here. The food was edible. It is not an active community. There was a bad smell at the community, however I do think they tried to keep it clean. There is not a lot of grounds for the residents to enjoy. We had to supply everything except the sheets and towels. When we moved mom out they said they were not able to locate the bed we brought in for her. We did not have a good experience with this community.

A lot of things to work on here

My experience with Insignia of Sandy Springs has not been the best. One of the main problems is that their aide staff seems short staffed and overworked, and the care and cleanliness suffers for it. They really don't seem to have enough people on hand to really care for their memory care residents. One of the main places I notice this is that when I visit (which is often) I can tell my loved one is not taken to the restroom nearly often enough because his diaper is almost always in need of a change. The aides also seem indifferent towards the comfort of the residents. The TV often seems to be set on a channel the staff wants to watch instead of what the residents enjoy, and when I visit the TV room is usually freezing until I ask them to turn the AC down. They also really need to work on the food. The quality of the cuts of meat they choose always seems low, and they really are not very accommodating to their diabetic residents. I've had to really stay on top of my loved one's blood sugar levels. One thing I will say is that their physical therapy service is excellent. They've helped him even beyond the rehab care facility he was in previously, and they've even got him up and walking around on his own for short periods of time.

My mother would have been in Cardinal 3 years this January 2018 but was told she had to leave this past October. My mother started out in Independent Living and things were pretty good there. She then had a few falls and her dementia was slowly getting worse so we were told by[Removed], the director of nursing that our mom should move to the Assisted Living side. We asked how long our mom could stay there. We were told until the end unless mom needed to be hoisted because of weight or if she did not have a DNR. Well mom was 100 lbs and yes she did have a DNR but she still was pushed out. Mom contracted MRSA and was sent to Kennedy Hospital, now Jefferson. The hospital treated her and told us she could return to Cardinal, Cardinal refused to take her back. They said it was to protect the other residents. The Drs. at Kennedy and the administration both spoke with Cardinal Village telling them there was no reason our mother could not return. They told Cardinal if every resident was tested for MRSA more than half would test positive that MRSA is in a lot of nursing homes. Cardinal still refused her and the hospital and us had to force mom into Kennedy Rehab. She was there longer than usual and necessary because Cardinal continued to fight us and told us mom needed more care. Bottom line is, yes she needed more care and they did not want to give it to her. Our question was then why did you tell us she could stay until the end if this wasn't going to be the case. Our guess was that now mom was Medicaid and they weren't getting as much money as they did before. All her money was gone. They now could put a private pay resident in my mom's apartment and get more money. I have to say my mom's nurses were very nice and we really did not have many issues with nursing. Although her 6:30 am medicines were always found on the floor because mom throw them out when the nurse left. Obviously they just handed them to her and left or she [Removed] them out when they left. At night the nurses pretty much made sure she took them. Mom's bathroom and kitchen was cleaned very little. I would clean both floors at least twice a week and they were very dirty. I showed the nurses and they told me to tell housekeeping, nothing ever changed. This is all behind us now as our mom is in Kennedy Nursing home. I would never suggest Cardinal Village to anyone, we believed we were deceived by [Removed] more than once.

downhill in a hurry

Several months ago the Greenfield location in Cockeysville was good. Since then, they changed the staff - or should I say eliminated many of the staff and replaced them with less people. The care has been deplorable since the new administrator took over. Its been about a month and many of the families are making other arrangements for their loved ones. There should be plenty of vacancies shortly if not already. Think twice about moving someone you care about there.

Terrible Care

They are very kind to get you in there but once your loved one moves in that all stops. You can't get any information, you have no idea how your loved one is being treated except for what they tell you and you have no one to go to about it that truly cares. We were promised a 30 day evaluation but when we all showed up for the appt. no one was there so we were just left standing. And no one has contacted us since about it. They shower attention on you to get you in and then they act as if you don't exist. My mother cries a lot and she is lonely there. Improvements are needed.

I have visited a friend in Memory Care unit over the past two years and have been deeply disappointed in the care that she receives. She sleeps in a urine soaked mattress with no linens. The smell of urine is overwhelming in the entire unit. When she sleeps through a meal it appears that she has to wait til the next meal for food. Never has a drink available between meals. Staff is frequently lounging and not providing care.Shame on the staff and her family for allowing such poor care.

Merry care nightmare.

I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone. They told us to stay away for 4-5 days so she could acclimate. They never called once to say she was having any problems. When we went in on the 4th day. She was in her bed uncovered and in a soiled diaper. The next day the same thing but a pad under her soaked through. We 911'd her out of there. They never checked on her. There is so much more to the story. Like I said I wouldn't put a dog in there.

Staffing is terrible. On Sunday one aide on days for 26 residents. Other days have only been 2 aides on days 26 residents. So how do basic ADLs and routine toileting occur. Staff laughter when I said I was told staffing was 1:8. Some days for 90 minutes and during meals see no aide staff around? Poor communication of resident needs between shifts and staff. Per diem nurses can’t answer simple questions. Never see management on the units. Lack of supervision and oversight especially on 3 to 11 and weekends. One visit 3-11 staff all standing around swearing, other visits observed sitting at tables on cell phones. I hear it used to be good but clearly for the price it has gone downhill.

Have visit this community off and on since Springtime [date removed], with various friends and associates that had taken up residence here. My review is that it has gone way down hill in maintenance, staffing, and overall vibe. It once was a vibrate community that you could tell the staff enjoyed being there; now it is a "dark", weird, unfriendly place that people are just clocking in to get paid. My friend recently told me they would be leaving they were so unhappy with care. And prices have risen from their initial quotes I would not recommend sending a Loved one to this location
