Too many cost increased - Family/Friend

At first great, but now meh

When we first moved our loved one into Keepsake (KSV), we felt like they were being cared for and mattered. The staff was responsive to our loved one's needs and safety. Several of the staff were exemplary in their care for the residents (and a few still are!). In the last six to twelve months, we feel that the cost of our loved one's care far exceeds the actual care they are receiving. We visit regularly and find our loved one sitting alone and unkempt, while staff are sitting at another table talking amongst themselves. In the couple of years our loved one has been at KSV, the cost of care has increased by nearly[fee removed]! While inflation has impacted all of us, it feels like KSV taking advantage of our unfortunate situation.

Mom in memory care

Alzheimer’s is an awful disease. My mom doesn’t remember me. She looks good and she likes the food. She likes the entertainment. The staff are helpful. It is clean. I would like her cleaner as far as clothes and hair but it is hard to give people with Alzheimer’s a bath. She has been in a respite spot for over sixty days but will be full time soon. She will stay there as long as they can take care of her. They are doing a good job better than I could give her. They also got her in quickly! I couldn’t care for her anymore and I am relieved how it turned out.

Experience at Viva

Mom doesn't like it. She complains about the food all the time. They have caught a couple of UTI before they got serious. She likes her aide. [name removed] at the desk is who I interact with and she's very nice and efficient. She's safe and they monitor her. My brother is in the area and visits weekly. He doesn't have any concerns. This is the 4 facility she's been in. And they all seem the same. Or at least she has the same complaints. She complained when she lived with me. It's not her home. Not her friends. They don't know how to season things or cook .

Viva Senior Living at Wilson Manor review

The staff was always friendly. However, I guess they were like other places and short staffed my mother in law fell in the bathroom and she said they never checked on her until next day. She fell several times while there. The biggest problem she had a boot where she broke foot on one of the falls and nobody checked it. When she went to rehab they looked and she had 2 places on her foot that had turned black where it was too tight. So not the best experience, but it was always clean and staff friendly.

A nice community with room for improvements.

The meals need improvement nutrition wise. The staff is very friendly. I need to stay on top of the medicines myself. The activities are good. The quality of care could be better if the techs were better trained. The cleanliness is good. Cost wise I don't think you get what you pay for, but I'm not sure that would be better anywhere else.

A nice community with room for improvement on the edges.

Generally it was a good experience. There were times I thought some of the policies were too rigid when he was to return from various rehabs but I realize that those limitations are set by type of facility. The floor staff and nurses that took care of my Dad were great. Very caring. The activity coordinators seemed like super people. The price is very onerous but I understand that is the market.

Understand Your Needs

She needed more help than was originally thought. So things didn't work out that well. Be sure of the level of care that is needed. Stay in contact with the nurses and the manager. I like the place and the nursing staff for assisted living. But the helpers did not go out of their way to help during the feeding times. Many of the people in the locked part of the facility did not really remember how to cut their food or eat well, so they needed more assistance.

Our experience at Keepsake Village

I don't really think that our experience is necessarily a good barometer. My husband was there about a month. The reason I sent him there was because they said they could manage his diabetes and aggression. They could not. He was sent to the hospital 2x because of his blood sugar. The 2d time he stayed in the hospital until he passed away. To be fair I don't know if the place exists that would address the challenges that we faced- which is really too bad because my husband can't be the only person who had the difficulties he had, yet there seemed to be no facility which was equipped to an handle a patient like him. It was a frustrating and heartbreaking experience

The good and the bad

At first, I found this facility to be great, people were friendly, the rooms were really nice, just a wonderful place. Unfortunately, my mom spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital and rehab, and I found out that while mom was not there in her room, things were stolen. Patients' rooms were kept locked when they weren't there and while I can't speak for others, I KNOW for a fact that one of the facility workers had gone in to "tidy" up her room before she came home from the hospital, but things came up missing. And I know this for a fact because my husband and I had stopped there a few days earlier to pick up some stuff of mom's and when we left, we knew exactly what was left sitting on her countertop. I immediately told the person in charge (who was actually the person who told me how this employee had gone into mom's room to clean it up) and I was told that an investigation would be conducted. But every time I would see this guy and ask him about it, I would hear the same thing. Now yeah, this guy was a wonderful guy, but he was the one who told me who went into mom's room! Unfortunately, my mom passed away last May but I was still upset over this employee going into mom's room (which had to be unlocked to enter). Eventually the guy in charge told me that I was given a refund amount added to the final refund check owed to me, but that didn't happen, I couldn't find it anywhere in the paperwork. So, yes, it's a nice place but please don't leave any valuables there, no matter how much mom wants otherwise.

Review for The Hearth at Greenpoint

Some of the staff were great but they were often understaffed, so a three. The residents were friendly once you reached out and got to know them but it's a big place and if you're a little shy, you'll feel lonely. Sometimes the meals were good, other times they took forever or forgot people or weren't very good. The activity people kept changing so things were not always as planned. Extra care needs monitoring, not enough repeating staff to understand resident preferences.

Woodland Creek

My loved one is currently a resident at Woodland Creek Transitional Memory Care Community and her experience at this facility has been just okay. However, we have a few concerns. The meals are not sufficient. Soup alone is not enough for dinner. Also, the care team doesn't do personal hygiene with the residents. Lastly, the activities are only for selected residents.

The facility was very nice. The care staff were terrible. My mom was there 17 days and had 3 Skin tears and a jammed toe and no one took ownership for anything. My mother was terrified to even let them touch her. We moved her out immediately. I would never recommend Commonwealth Senior Living at Cockeysville to others.

Review for Keepsake Village

I would only recommend someone going there if they have full-blown Alzheimer's, or really really bad dementia. We picked this community, because of timing and was also the best fit at the time for my mother in law that has anxiety around a lot of people. Smaller facility. The only thing people need to be aware of is that a lot of the people there are more full on Alzheimer's, and really bad dementia. It's not a great place for elderly that are showing signs of dementia. (Beginning stages)
