Nice Management Team

The management is wonderful, their hearts are in the right place but I feel they need to make improvements in the memory care. The staff seem to do a good job but I feel there is no "care" or high-level interaction. I was told they have a program that shows all residents pictures of their loved ones in movie-mode but I have yet to see this. I also feel they are under staffed and this may be the cause of not giving high quality care. I thought I picked out the best community based on what they explained to me but I have not seen all the greatness from this community. It has been a little over a month since my mom has been here and I hope, hope they improve.

Have an assessment done before going here

My experience with Bluegrass for my father was not evaluated before he was accepted into Bluegrass. We had to go out and buy furniture specifically for his stay and since he was not properly evaluated was told that we had to leave within 48 hrs which they did stretch out but we were required to hire a 24 hr sitter in addition to paying living expenses this was a major hardship moving him and having to take him back home. The staff was friendly and the place was clean but if he would have been refused acceptance because of his evaluation we could have been better prepared and went somewhere else . I have been told by several people NOW that they were out for the quick buck. Its nice if youre looking just for a home for the elderly requiring very basic assistance. Also we did have one of the staff members that didn't want to move from her chair and chose to grumble when asked for any assistance but the rest were very willing to help.

Decreased quality in regards to service and living quarters

Forest Hills has been bought out by another company and many people have moved out for various reasons. A big complaint is the food and they said they needed to cut back. They have also cut back on workers and changed nursing. My mother in law also wants to move and we are not willing to start from the beginning again. Most of the people moved to the to the place in Mt Washington, where she was originally denied, because she need more care.

Be proactive in your look

I looked at the facility several times and I thought it would be a good facility, but his time here was not the best but that was nobodies fault. They put him in an apartment that he was not equipped to be in. They were in the remodeling process and it was not livable yet. We were not allowed to help move him in either and they made some promises that they were not able to keep at the time. The staff members here were fantastic and a lot of them were really trying to do their best during these circumstances. Before the pandemic started, I was extremely happy with it, it was very clean and the room we were going to move him in at that time was great. I would tell others to be proactive and really ask questions.

High Employee Turnover

There seems to be a high employee turnover from the director down which gives the residents an uneasy feeling. One of the reasons to live in an assisted living facility is security and stability. When the staff is either missing or new in their position the residents question security and stability.

Review of Bluegrass Assisted Living

They cannot keep employees and have had 4 managers in 5 years. Owner lives in Calif. and Mexico and is never there. All kinds of promises made when Mom moved in - transportation, trips for fun, ect. never happened. Food is mostly carbs and overcooked. No fresh food hardly ever. Laundry washed all together- no separation of loads. Housekeeping in rooms not good. Floors are concrete with indoor/outdoor carpet , no padding so a fall means a broken bone. They have a locked Alzheimer wing. I shudder to think how it looks or is managed.

Not Getting Our Money Worth

Overall my father seems to be doing okay since his move to this community. For the most part I do not feel we are getting our money worth from this community. I do have many minor concerns that I feel I should not have, since we are paying so much money. I feel they are understaffed. My father isn't getting quite the level of care I would like. The cleanliness could be better. The staff is friendly for the most part, but I do not feel this community is worth what we are paying.

Would not recommend

I thought this was a nice place when it was owened by Emeritus, but when it was purchased by Brookdale things started to go downhill. I started noticing a lot of oversights in both the care and cleanliness of the facility, and the issues were not resolved even after I pointed them out to the staff. Since the service was on the decline, and the price on the rise, I chose to move my loved one to another facility.

Good & bad

Quality of care seemed pretty good - however, last few days there left questions. Unexplainable situations - our mother went to the hospital & died. The process of closing out the account was cumbersome, lengthy, very frustrating. No disagreement on what needed to happen or the amounts --- just incredible delays. This involved the corporate HQ operation.

My Brother's Experience with respite care

There was an aide, [name removed] that took pretty good care of [name removed]. The room was good, but they supplied absolutely nothing for respite care. I had to move [name removed] furniture and all personal items. They didn't even supply toilet tissue or towels and cloths. His clothing was all strewn in the closet floor and some were not his. They need changes in their respite care, I didn't plan on moving half the house for 3 weeks stay! I supplied his shampoo, soap, toothpaste and lotion for his skin and creme for his peri area, I never saw any of it again. I hate to complain but for almost $[removed] for a month I would expect good care. It doesn't take a lot of effort to check on the patient and keep them clean and dry! Wash their face and comb their hair and dress them decent.

October 26, 2025

Our appointment was scheduled at 1O:00 am on a Sunday. I left my job and commuted 45 minutes to Bluegrass Assisted Living for our appt. We were able to walk right in- no one there/no security. We pressed the help button multiple times after we stood there for 15 minutes. A staff member finally happened to see us standing there. She then stated that the manager, [name removed], who was supposed to give us our tour, was not there. She went on to say that no one else could give a tour. We saw three staff members talking to each other, saying, “Is [name removed] going to be here?” Frustrated, we left and I proceeded to commute back to my job. I wasted over an hour and a half in travel time alone. This was completely disrespectful. If there was an emergency, another staff member should’ve been available. We were already there. We were not told that [name removed]needed to cancel until five minutes before our tour! The facility appeared rundown and dirty. There was an empty mandatory hand sanitizer dispenser
