Vitality Living

It is independent living but there is no health care. Administrative staff is unfriendly and not interested that we would like those benefits that were offered when we moved in and are not now available. The salon and massage was included in our club cars money but it was taken away. Also a payment disagreement with the executive director took away an excellent physical therapist. The food is good and portions are large. This is the ONLY place to use the club money and the menu doesn't change often. There are many and varied. For the value for cost I'm not sure. Our rent went up 7% in January and I was told it went up the same amount the year before also. This raise was blamed on inflation but but inflation was not 7%. I do enjoy being with most of the people we've meet in the past year. I do enjoy that most people are mobile on their own.

Ratings were based upon my experience vs what I was expecting when we moved in. Visit often, and beware of the quality and the value price points. Facility is very pricey and makes enormous price increases and is no difference in the care or service received.

The facility is clean, the food is good, many of the working staff are excellent. The Agency workers, which are used frequently, don't know the patients as my sister was given all the wrong meds. The Administration is always too busy to answer questions or follow up on critical occurrences. Poor at returning calls. Activities are great.

The Director led me to believe that I could add a washer/dryer in the apartment I had chosen. But just 5 days before I was to move in, she called me to say that it wasn't possible, that I couldn't have a W/D in my apartment after all. I chose to go into a different facility. I also asked for a return of my deposit. She said that she would check it out and call me back on next day. She never called about refund.

In fairness, I have nothing to compare it to. They run out of food quickly for dinner. Overall I would still recommend Vitality Living Stony Brook.

My parents have been here for less than a month and I can honestly say the value is NOT worth the money. Dietary dept sucks; meals are not healthy (lots of pasta, potatoes/starches, chicken, hot dogs, fried foods, etc.) Dietary staff has ZERO training, consistently run out of food before last residents are served, food is not always hot ( luck warm to cold). Additional activities for Independent Living residents need to be planned; same activities practically every week. Bus needs to run on weekends; not just during the week. Residents here are awesome but need addional support from management on issues they have.

We like the facility. They can improve with their level of care and attention to detail - failed to give my aunt her blood pressure meds for weeks resulting in her getting dizzy, falling and breaking her clavicle

Ways that the facility could improve include: 1) clearly communicating What services and amenities are provided before a resident moves in. 2). Hire more staff 3). My mom requires standby assistance for showering and they only have staff to provide her with two showers per week, which is not enough for people like my mom who wear incontinence briefs 24-7 4) not enough outings---not enough opportunities for physical activity We would be gladly willing to pay more money if they would provide my mom with more frequent showers during the week. Families at Legacy Village have to hire third-party companies like Visiting Angels to provide caregivers to come and assist with caregiving that legacy village is not able to provide---due to not having enough staff. 5). An additional concern (regarding safety) is that it's very easy for anyone to walk in to Legacy Village and walk into any of the resident rooms. Visitors sign in at the front desk and then just go into the building. Some of the residents are really friendly, vulnerable, and trusting and they would just leave with some stranger easily. I would also like to add positive feedback: 1) Nursing staff are excellent 2). Overall morale of residents is pleasant and jovial 3). All staff are generous, accommodating, compassionate, caring, and show high levels of initiative. Staff strive to provide individualized needs for each resident 4) Front desk receptionist, [name removed], is organized, ready to assist, and knows all about each resident so she can make them feel welcomed and supported.

The staff was friendly and went out of their way to get to know the residents and provide whatever they could to make the living situation a good one. The administrative staff met daily so each department was aware of any health issues and tried to help. The chef went out of his way to ensure everyone had their favorite foods and he would make special foods if the resident wanted it.

Con: Staff headcount is an issue. Memory care residents. often go unsupervised Pro: office staff communication is prompt

The people distributing medication don't read scripts correctly so be careful if you're hiring them for medication management. Head of nursing [name removed]is not nice and doesn't return calls. The levels of care they add on for extra money are pricey for how little they do extra from the previous level. Same with medication levels. My grandma is charged extra from medication management level one now because she has eye drops. That's ridiculous. We plan to transfer her to a different vitality soon.

They could improve on everything, and based on the experience we had we would not recommend Vitality Living Spring Hill to other families

The rooms are not cleaned properly, floors are sticky, bathroom is constantly filthy, bad smell. Not enough lights in rooms. Staff doesn’t check on residents enough. Laundry gets backed up. They strip the bed and don’t remake it right away… I had to make the bed myself several times…Staff congregates in the center amongst themselves while residents are calling for help…several falls of residents…night nurse is horrible! They leave my father in his wheelchair in front of the tv for hours without assisting him to bed earlier. If he wasn’t in need of hospice I would move him out!

The director doesn't exhibit great listening skills, has a passive dismissive tone. The environment is safe but lacks the variety of enrichment and outdoor space I'd like to see in the memory care unit. I take process not completely transparent at onset and upon the decision/move-in process; we felt a bit misled in hindsight. Convenient location.

Head of Nursing, assuming she is still there, was wonderful. Willing to work with us in an emergency situation, they were extremely flexible, Director was a gem.

My husband was accepted into the Vitality Memory Care unit. Unfortunately, he got covid 3 days before transfer from rehab to MC. He was in rehab an additional 2 weeks as he was weaker after covid. On reassessment by Vitality staff, due to his agitation, I was told they could only accept him if I paid a sitter to be with him 24/7. I was refunded about half the money I had already paid, because the room had been held for him. Hope this helps someone going forward.

There is! But I also want to say that it was amazing like the first month, then the head of the place got hurt really badly and everything just went downhill from there. It took them a while, but they hired a really good girl that manages the place. Her name is [name removed] and I have loved her. She literally had to redo the entire staff from top to bottom so it's been a challenge, but she has been super open with us about that and we have embraced it. We were going to move him in the midst of all that, but we gave her time to fix all the things and has been great. And my dad is really happy there and we are happy now also.

The place has really gone downhill since becoming Vitality. It looks nice, some of the staff are great, some just do what they have to to get by. My Mom now pays $[removed] a month for apartment and "nursing care", medications distribution. She gets meds twice a day. PLUS, meds are an extra charge. The technicians/ nurses aides turn over frequently. I don't feel like they check in the residents unless the resident uses their call button/ necklace. Some of them can be pretty rude to the residents. I have been in my Mother's apartment and them not know I'm in the bedroom folding clothes. They have come in saying "what do you want now?" I also don't feel like the "higher ups" listen to my concerns.

Staff is a rotating door. Every week is someone new there. The dining room is FILTHY! Should be the cleanest place in there other than the bathrooms.I believe they try, but they can do a whole lot better. The admin staff should not allow the floors to get so nasty. Just filthy. Now I know why their prices are the lowest in town. If I could afford to move my mom I would.

The individual units are really nice, and live entertainment is good and frequent. Dining hours are too early and the food quality is generally poor. Occasionally there are very good meals, but that is the exception. It excels at independent living. Staff are generally very friendly and helpful. Particularly the bus drivers and maintenance. Residents are friendly.
