Great choice

My mother spent her final years at the Bristol in Armonk and made such amazing friends there. She lived alone and didn’t want to admit she was quite lonely. I was always there for her, but having peers around her and proper medical care to monitor her diabetes made a huge difference in her life. At the Bristol in Armonk they hire such caring individuals, from the wellness center to the kitchen. Everyone treated my mother with great respect. My children also loved to visit her there and join in on activities.

You should definitely consider this facility

Our family was exploring options for my parents to move into an assisted living facility, and after visiting more than a half dozen of them we whittled it down to a very short list, including this Bristal. Ultimately, my parents chose a different one for strictly geographic reasons (in a different state)...however I wanted to post this review as we were so impressed with the Bristal at Lake Grove. First, compliments to [Name removed] on their staff for handling our inquiries and visits (at least four of them) so professionally and thoroughly. [Name removed] is very knowledgeable and compassionate, and has a solid understanding of all of the aspects of assisted living and the many questions and issues involved. The facility itself is really impressive. The layout, accommodations, services and staff are all first class. They have thought of every detail when it comes to making it safe and enjoyable for seniors to live there. I highly recommend that you seriously consider this facility...and if you can, have [Name removed] show you around.

The Right Move

My sister and I knew it was time to move our mother into an assisted living memory care unit close to us in Westchester, but we had no idea how she would react. She had been living for five years with a full-time aide in her apartment in Queens, and the two were very attached. We were advised not to tell our mom in advance of the move so as not to make her anxious. The Bristal in White Plains was the first place we looked at, and it felt right from the get-go. The lobby was elegant and inviting and seemed more like a hotel than a senior residence. We liked that the Reflections memory care unit was right there on the first floor in a self-contained wing with an activity space, dining room, and only 32 bedrooms. Outside the entrance to Reflections were the Wellness Center, a library, a movie room, a sitting area with snacks, and a beauty parlor. All the bedrooms, whether self-contained or in a "friendship suite" with two rooms that shared a vestibule, had private bathrooms. The day we visited, there was a vacancy in a friendship suite, and we immediately put down a deposit to secure it. Meantime, we checked out another assisted living facility nearby, but decided it had a much more institutional feel than The Bristal. On the day we moved our mother to The Bristal, we told her that her apartment needed some major repairs and she needed to move out for a while to a place where she could stay until the work was finished. We said we had found such a place near us, and we were taking her there now. She got very quiet, then said to us, "You could have told me sooner. I'm not senile, you know." The next day, my sister stopped by before lunch to see how our mom was faring. When she walked into Reflections, our mother was nowhere to be found. An aide told her that when mom saw a group of residents leaving for a field trip to a museum, she announced that she wanted to go, too. We were delighted that she was already getting involved in the social activities. While living at home, she was isolated from friends and hadn't been to a museum in many years. Much to our relief, our mother acclimated quickly to her new life at The Bristal. She made friends, she said the staff was very nice and attentive, and she was comfortable in her room, which we decorated with family photos and artwork from her apartment. Our mother's time there lasted five months, until her sudden passing. But she (and we) were treated with kindness and respect every step of the way. Moving our mother to The Bristal when we did was the best decision we could have made.

I am sure I speak for my brothers too when I say I do not ever want to experience moving our Mom again. A power failure in our Mom’s home inspired the decision to finally act on the inevitable -- changing her environment and quality of life. Even with a full time caregiver living with her in her home, she was far too isolated and limited. And with a power failure, she was less safe. We had to make a change. The difficult decision was made and, four days later, so was the move. She is now a full-time resident at The Bristal in Woodcliff Lake! We are so grateful to have had the incredible supportive staff at The Bristal in our corner as we undertook this physically and emotionally draining endeavor. Our Mom is soon to be 92 years old. She is bravely and knowingly battling oncoming dementia that rears up in unexpected moments and lingers just long enough to create anxiety in a woman who craves control over her circumstances and independence in her life choices. Moving away from her home of over 50 years is no small thing. But she did it. We did it. And only because of the caring support, guidance, attention to detail, compassion and understanding of so many individuals at The Bristal in Woodcliff Lake. She is still making many adjustments -- from learning how to use the phone system to establishing a new morning routine to finding her way around the incredibly beautiful and well-maintained facility she now calls home. But, there is willing and patient support quite literally at every turn. Folks like [Names removed] have made all the difference and have been on hand to kick-start and navigate all of us but especially Mom through this transition. I am sure there will be many more names to add to the list of those she can lean on going forward. Her confidence and sense of security is already growing and only three days in, she already refers to new friends she has made among her fellow residents. We are excited for her as we know The Bristal is a place where she is not only safe, but where each new day brings the promise of joy, fun activities, and companionship, while still allowing her a sense of independence whenever she chooses to retreat to her private room. And she feels safe as she knows caring staff are only steps away and will be checking on her and looking out for her every need. So, while we don’t ever want to have to do it again, we have now joined the ranks of the many Bristal families who have shared the same sentiment: we only wish we had done it sooner!

My mom has been in the Bristal of Massapequa for 5 1/2 years.....I can't believe how fast the time has gone by....but I am so happy that she is @ the Bristal and thriving!! The staff can't do enough for the residents and they know each resident & family member by name....They have helped her to maintain some of her independence and for that & for their love and support, I am very grateful. As I have said before, I can't give her the life she had before with my dad, but this is the best life that I can give her now....thanks to The Bristal and its wonderful staff.

Great place

When the Bristal at Lake Success opened, I knew it was the perfect place for my mother. I had been looking at facilities for 2 years and I couldn't move my mother from her beautiful home to a one bedroom with a hallway and a dining room. All the memory care facilities I had looked at had a depressing feeling to them. The Bristal is clean, beautiful and professionally run. My mother feels like she's in a 5 -star hotel. The staff is very nice and there's a lot of space to live . I feel that my mother is well taken care of there. I can finally sleep at night!

The Bristal North Woodmere

Mom's move to the Bristal was accomplished in a very fast and relatively stress free environment. I owe all this to [Removed], who no matter how often I called or emailed her she always made time for our family. She was extremely sensitive to what we needed and went out of her way to help us. We chose the 1 bedroom at the last minute and it was available within 24 hours of our request. Mom has been living at the Bristal for 6 weeks now and is extremely happy. Everything from the food to the staff is exactly what we had hoped for. We are so pleased with our decision and know that our Mom is in the best assisted living home. I would highly recommend The Bristal at North Woodmere!

My uncle lived at the Bristal in North Hills. During that time period he became one of the most popular guys there...not because of what he did but because all of the staff gave him the attention and respect a senior deserves. Great facility for people with memory loss

My mother has memory loss. She has been at the Bristal for several months now and is well taken care of there. The staff is both friendly and professional. The facility is beautiful and, clean. The atmosphere is like a luxury hotel and there is absolutely no institutional feel at all. The staff makes a real effort to keep the residents active. Anyone gets agitated, the staff does there best to make them feel better and help them get over whatever is bothering the resident. The staff makes an effort to get residents together to establish friendships. If you have a relative with memory loss, this is the absolute best facility that I have seen. My mother is very comfortable here. I would not allow her to stay in a bad facility.

Excellent facility for dementia patients

My mother moved in to The Bristal 5 weeks ago & our family couldn't be more pleased with this move. She began her journey on Oct.1 at The Bristal at North Hills living in a 2 bedroom apartment with my father in the assisted living side. Unfortunately, my mom suffered a stroke in December & my dad was hospitalized shortly after. Dad passed away in January & mom went from rehab to the memory care unit at North Hills. It was an extremely difficult time for our family. We made the decision to move her from North Hills to Lake Success as we felt our mother would benefit from a change of scenery. All her children felt the same. We also loved the fact that this facility was strictly dedicated to memory care. We definitely made the right decision. Since the move my mother's spirits couldn't be better. She's referring to some of the women as her friends, & I have the feeling that she feels like she's in a beautiful hotel. I can't say enough about the staff, the activities ...it's all been terrific. I'm also pleased that The Bristal has partnered with the Feinstein Institute/Northwell Health to do a study on dementia, that my mother is participating in. This will then avail her of other therapies (dance, strength training ). Our entire family gives The Bristal our highest praise. We feel fortunate that there is such a facility on LI that worked with this population.

Thank goodness for the Bristal in Lynbrook

[Removed] all the staff at the Bristal are wonderful. Mom is staying there after having suffered a stroke and we were scrambling on how to make sure she would be looked after properly while we all work. The food, activities, and entertainment are all excellent but most important of all is the dedication of the staff there who really care. Bristal of Lynbrook was the answer to our prayers!

My father moved in a few months ago and has loved it. The staff there is top notch, and friendly. He's quickly made friends with the people he sits with for meals, and has been enjoying himself. From my stand point the cost is well worth the piece of mind knowing that my dad is in a safe, friendly environment and that assistance is always available 24/7.

Making the decision that it is time to leave your home and seek assisted living options, is a major life decision. For my parents, it was a decision that needed to be made quickly due to health concerns. From the moment we entered the Bristal, my parents felt welcomed and valued. Each and every staff member we encountered was warm and genuine. A year later my parents are settled, acclimated, and enjoying their new home and community. I am very grateful to the Bristal for making this transition as smooth and positive as possible.

Tender Loving Care!!

My loved one is still trying to adjust to the community. So far, she mentions that she doesn't really feel secured because her door doesn't lock and that there is no privacy for her. The staff and all of the rest of the personal are all really nice and attentive. The taste of the food isn't very good it could be better, the portions are also very large. One thing i really like is that they do try to accommodate her which is wonderful.

Nice place, good activities

So far our experience with The Bristal at Westbury has been a good one! It's a clean looking place, the people are friendly, and my loved ones really seem to have settled in well! They didn't get out much before, but they've been taking advantage of all the activities now that they're here! It's a nice place overall, and worth a look if you're looking into senior living in the area.
