Would Not Recommend

The community were ok. My loved one didn't care for the food. They didn't have a lot of activities for my loved one. I would recommend you don't put your loved one here. The communication with the staff wasn't that good for the family. There was one nurse who would contact us. I would like to see the communication and listening to the residents more.

Recently we re-toured the community since becoming Grand Villa and have never experience a more rude and unwelcoming group of managers. We tried talking to a nurse name [name removed] about my family member and were so unprofessionally told that her policy was to physically assess: all we wanted was to ask her a question! What has happened? A year ago we had the most wonderful experience under Princeton Village but now?? Told that the management decided to leave? No heart and no empathy from this new group...

I would give it a 0 but 1 is the lowest score

Someone owns the building and another company “manages” it. The place is filthy, windows broken, toilets and sinks don’t work, vanities are falling apart and moldy. Plumbing is an ongoing issue. They promise residents they are going to fix something but then it’s like pulling teeth. They are totally uncommunicative with the family! As for Covid one day I could come in and the next day I couldn’t; [name removed] yelled about not being allowed in with no mask even!!! By the end of the conversation she invited me into the building!!! That’s the kind of inconsistencies that go on and make it hard for the residents. All of them seem depressed. The food is pretty awful. Most of It doesn’t taste like anything. My family member also does not get enough food to eat and is way too skinny and this has been addressed several times but they can’t seem to understand that he needs more meat and vegetable and not just more carbs!

Not what we expected

They were understaffed and they told us that they would adjust the staffing to met the residents needs, but they did not. I feel like that when we noticed our mom needed more help, they started charging us more, but she didn't get that help. Our mom's doctor recommended she be move to a secured environment, but after several care meetings, Brookdale assured us that they could meet her needs and wanted her to stay there. Until she eloped and was missing from the building for two hours, then they called us an insisted we have 24 hour private caregivers until we moved her out. It was a very disturbing and disappointing experience.

Beware

My grandfather lived on the memory care floor for about 15 months, but passed away in August. My mom and I visited at least 6 times a week, stayed for hours at a time, and were involved in activities with the residents so we saw a lot of what went on. We found people and things we loved in this place and people and things we did not. However, at the end of my grandfather's life things took a turn at the facility and we had nothing but problems. We talked to many people there about our issues and things only got worse. After my grandfather passed, I wrote a google review and a facebook review on their page. We continued to visit the residents on the second floor because after 15 months, we had built a relationship with them. We would visit and bring them pretzels, muffins, etc. Today, my mom and I went to help the residents paint pumpkins but didn't make it to the second floor before the director of the facility told us we were no longer welcome there because of my negative review. I was told I should change my review and make it more positive but I refused. Kicking people out of the facility who actually care for the resident's well-being is a terrible reaction to an honest review. Take my review and make your facility better because of it, don't punish my family and your residents because you don't like hearing the truth. I'd be happy to change my review if I saw changes within the facility. But no, I won't change my review just to gain access to the building. People should read honest reviews, not just the ones the Grand Villa of NPR approves of and the ones their employees put on there. Constructive criticism can be a great tool to help make improvements, but this facility does not wish to do that.

WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE

STAY AWAY! I cannot begin to describe how inhumane and cruel the corporate powers-to-be behind this facility are. Long story short: we thought we found a facility where my mother with Alzheimer would thrive in. They said all of the right things, made us feel at home, and helped us as we prepared for this difficult move. 24 hours before we were bringing in our mom we were told that "corporate had reconsidered and there was not a spot available after all". No other explanation was provided and no one from corporate ever had the courtesy to respond to any of our begging voicemails or emails. To this day we still don't know what happened. Whenever I read a bad review I always wonder what the other side of the story is; believe me when I tell you that there was no justification whatsoever for this last-minute change of heart. We were told this facility was owned by a 3rd generation family owner - [name removed] - who is very involved with his residents and staff. [Name removed] never had the decency to even talk to us. Choosing to place our mom in an assisted living was the hardest decision we ever had to make; we were finally somewhat at peace with our plan when this company turned our lives upside down and never even had the basic human courtesy to tell us anything. I have never witnessed an act so cruel nor have I ever experienced the level of cowardness that the entire corporate team has shown. If you are looking to place a loved one in a memory care or assisted living facility, I cannot tell you in strong enough terms how awful these people are. My only consolation is that I found out their level of cruelness before I placed my mother under their care.

Horrible Company! Run!

We had been working with this facility for months to move my mother with Alzheimer's in. It was finally 48hrs until our move-in date, movers booked, out of town relatives on the way, the the facility called and said they had to cancel our contract. We were devastated and baffled, management refused to speak to us. Steer clear of this shady facility, they are completely untrustworthy and don't care about your family at all!

Receptionist told [name removed] we were there for our appointment set up through "A Place For Mom," but we never saw him. He never left his office to say hello to us or tell us that they were not aware of our appointment, despite the fact that we were standing right outside his office and the door was open. [Name removed] told us we weren't expected, but offered to take us on the tour. The first apartment she showed us was in the middle of being cleaned out following a resident leaving for whatever reason. It still had a few pieces of furniture in it, but was clearly in need of cleaning. When I asked her what size this apartment was, she didn't know. The second apartment she showed us was empty and cleaner. However, she didn't know the size of the second apartment either. Since the prices are based on the size of the apartment, and there are several one-bedroom options with varying prices, she was not helpful in that regard. When I asked if there was an apartment we could see that was furnished, she turned us over to [name removed], who seemed to have more interaction with the patients. She was a bit more helpful with the size of the apartments, but it still wasn't clearcut. The courtyard area looked rather neglected, but she said the residents prefer to sit out front in the rocking chairs and don't really use the courtyard seating area. [Name removed] took us to several more apartments, and we ended up doing an inordinate amount of walking considering the layout of the facility. They were not at all prepared for our visit, and we left with a negative feeling about the whole place. It felt, looked and smelled more like a nursing home than an assisted living facility. One resident voluntarily told us the place was "fabulous." Based on our visit, my mom and I don't agree with her. As soon as we walked out the front door, my mom said, "I don't like this place at all and don't want to be here." I don't want her there either.

We did not have a good experience with the memory care facility in Middleton. My mother was hit numerous times and the administrator failed to implement policies to prevent future altercations. The resident associates did a nice job in the absence of good management. The administrator has little to no interaction with residents and often seems uncomfortable around them. The medical care on site is subpar and the facility is not a good layout for memory care. There are alot of hallways and areas where residents get lost and wander without supervision. I recommend observing the day to day operations before moving a loved one here. I would also check the class action lawsuits for Brookdale before making a decision.

Keep Looking!

I visit my friend at Brookdale Middleton every week. She hates it there. She says she feels ignored. She is often left on the toilet for over a half hour. Other times when she pulls the cord for assistance she waits for an hour or longer. A few people on staff are friendly while others look depressed and glum. The quality of the food is poor. At mealtime there is very little conversation. The rooms are dark and poorly lit. Another reviewer mentioned wildlife . . . yes if you consider a chipmunk or two. She has had several falls. What bothers me the most is that some of the staff treat her roughly while getting her out of bed, forget to give her pain meds.,etc.. She is afraid to mention these things for fear of retaliation. I would never want my loved one at Brookdale Middleton. My friend has been on a waiting list at another place after the first week. It has been 3 months.

Not happy

My dad was in the memory care unit. I was extremely disappointed with their care. Not much is going on, no one is engaged. Residents are just sitting around or watching television. [Removed] the program developer is nice but overwhelmed. Once your money is send the administration avoids you and not interested in resolving any concerns you may have.

Beware

Beware of this place. Their people are very convincing and let you think they will support your loved one. My experience has been the following, • there is very little going on as far as activities for the residents • if you need hospice, this isn't the place to be. They claim they can provide care while hospice enters to help. NOT TRUE. • beware of any return of prorated funds.

Not impressed with my stay at this community!!

My wife and I only stayed at this community for a little over a month before we moved out into another assisted living. I was very disappointed in our overall experience that we had. It was always very noisy especially at night time, the staff would take forever to respond to the call lights so it would wake up the rest of the residents in the building. The food was also nothing special. The meals where bland and never had much flavor to them. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Terrible place!

This place once had an amazing Resident Care Coordinator, by the name of Angela [Removed], she was truly an angel, and loved and cared for each and every one of the residents here! She listened to them, and treated them and the staff with such respect, it's hard to find such kind hearted people like that these days, who are very knowledgeable about what they do! When she left, the place was terrible again!!! Anyway, the facility is okay, not great, but just okay. The food is horrible, and they treat their employees like dirt, which in turn they treat the residents as such! The Owners are money hungry slobs,Would definately not recommend this place for your loved ones!
