Review of Belvedere Commons after 8 Weeks Stay

All of the staff seems to be fairly friendly at Belvedere Commons of Franklin. I feel like there should be more activities that include everyone. They probably need more Aides. My loved one's room is cleaner than it's ever been. I've eaten with him once and I thought it was tasty. He says the food is bad. I feel like he just doesn't want to eat. So far I'm pleased and would recommend this facility to others.

Our family had an in person tour and Belvedere was kind of old and needed lots of attention. The carpets were terrible. It was less expensive than most, so that's better at least. The staff was nice.

Our experience

We chose Belvedere commons at the time because of the cost, it was really great when we first moved in but there have been ups and downs. We are in the flux of a lot of change and they just got bought out which is the reason I gave it a 3. We have lost our activities director so we do not have much going on at all. As far as I am concerned the care is fine. it is clean and they do their best. I am satisfied with the experience overall.

Community Tour

The Retreat at Port Orange wasn’t quite as good as I expected, especially for a facility that focuses solely on memory care. My loved one participated in an activity during our tour, and it was not quite as good as what she experienced at another place we visited. It was also an older facility, and it just didn’t feel as homey.

Our experience with Belvedere Commons

Since my mom moved in, we have noticed that at times there is a strong urine smell in the hallways. We have also had some spotty issues with the cleaning services in her rooms, we have to remind them. They recently had a change in management, so we are hoping some things may improve. She is pleased with the food and the room sizes are very good compared to others that I visited in the area. The facility is also one story which is nice.

Very clean and well lighted facility in the commons areas. Staff is very welcoming and engaged with residents. The relatively small number of residents would be well suited to many folks, but not for my Mom.

Floor is great, but other things need to be addressed

The most important part about this community are the staff members on the floor, they take great care of the residents, we have never seen anyone ever being mistreated. There are some problems though, and one is the food. We see a lot of sandwiches on the memory care side, and frozen vegetables so we bring in supplement food for residents to share. In the enclosed courtyard on the main facility side is beautiful, and the front of community has eight beautiful painted rocking chair but nothing is being used. On the memory care side there is only a gazebo, but it cannot fit all the memory care residents. The furniture is not being used and the administration is ignoring the problem.

The meals they serve to the residents are not good, it is just not good food for those who are elderly. The rooms would be about a three out of five, and we would not recommend this community to others.

Looks good on paper but be cautious

We chose Belvedere Commons because of the smaller atmosphere and we felt like there was a good staff to patient ratio. Since then, the communication has been horrible from the staff members and the staff to patient ratio has changed for the worse as well. I would tell others that when we moved in they told us a lot of things that were offered but it was not the case once he got in here. It looks good on paper, but be cautious before moving loved ones in here.

Something Just Didn't Feel Quite Right

When you entered this community I didn't feel that it was a pleasant enviroment as other communities we looked at. It almost gave you the feeling of being in a old time nursing home where they residents weren't as active. The staff was friendly and helpful but we could just tell this wasn't going to be a good place to put mom.

Mixed experience

Our experience with Brookdale Bluewater Bay has been somewhat mixed. The facility itself is nice looking, and the staff have all been very friendly to my loved one. She also says the food is very good! However, I'm not a fan of their pricing structure and some of their care policies. They charge extra for every little service, and the bill can get quite high very quickly. I've also seen some charges on the bill for services they are not performing, which I've had to speak with them about.

would not recommend

I would not recommend Brookdale Hermitage Boulevard. Mom bought the highest package possible here. We also hired two private aids. The staff at Brookdale wasn't checking on her in the day and night as they were supposed to. They were counting on on the private aids doing everything even though we were paying for them to. Mom had and accident and the private aid needed help and the staff here took forever to come. The private aid asked what took her so long and the staff member said she was lucky she got the help when she did. The private aid was so upset over that. The first month was really rough. Within a week of being there mom had to be rushed to the hospital. I would not recommend this facility. It has gotten better. But that's because we had to hold their feet to the fire. Our biggest concern with mom is her falling. It has been frustrating. I was there for 7 straight days and no one came to check on her even though we paid for the highest level of care. We were told the staff would be able to help mom eat because she does need assistance. But when we would bring her to the dining room they told us they couldn't help. Also the food isn't good. The variety is terrible and the portion sizes are small. Overall I am not happy. I am hoping a lot of things change here soon.
