Keep in mind this is based on our experience at Silver Creek during Covid times. I would not recommend the memory section at all. These are certainly the easiest people to treat unkindly, because they don't remember a lot and it's hard to believe what they're saying. My loved one started out in the assisted living section, and they set up everything in her room for her, and she would talk to me about the pictures she loved so much. Then she was moved to the memory care section, where they never bothered to put up her pictures. Nothing was on the wall where it belonged, which I did not know until I went in there after she had died. It was horrendous. The people I talked to in general were friendly, but not so much the staff on her floor in the memory ward. I did not have a good time trying to call and talk to her there. I just think they do a poor job in the memory ward. I never really got to go in to see her, so I'm not sure about the care she was receiving. She fell numerous times. The only visits allowed were once every 1-2 weeks for about half an hour in a room near the door. So I didn't get so anybody interact with her, or things of that sort.

I would encourage others who are looking into Cottage Landing to visually see the actual apartment that they will be renting and that they go over it with someone in management to point out the things that are not acceptable and have it in writing. The things that are given to them information wise prior to moving in need to be discussed and carried out. We were told we had a choice between laminate flooring and carpet, we went with laminate and it is a cheap vinyl rug. There were quite a few discrepancies. We pay for 3 meals per day, we have a weekly menu on a 5-6 week rotation. We average being able to eat 2 meals a week off that schedule. They were not prepared for us. It has not been a very positive experience

We stopped here briefly last time mom visited. She went inside and said the lobby was small, depressing, and didn't smell so good. There were several people in wheel chairs and no one from the House greeted her. She decided she did not want a tour.

My parents lived there for almost a year. The food was not good. The menu did not really cater to the older residents. Many, many complaints about the food. They had 3 different chefs in a 9 month period. Each one got progressively worse. Food is extremely important to older people. One of the really few pleasures left. Laurel Grove needs to put a real priority on creating a menu that gives more normal choices, does not cook the meat and food to death, serve the food hot, and get people who really know how to cook and take pride in cooking.

Smoky Springs was "nice" but over priced for the "bedroom" w/kitchen sink w/a few cabinets. Small room for clothes but the bathroom was nice & roomy. I do expect to be charge for the services they offered but $2400. is a bit much for me. I really do not want to go over $2100. And I was to expect an increase "maybe annually" I need a locked in rate for life as my income is not going to increase over the year "&" being federal income with [Removed] in the White House -- who knows what will happen when it comes to my income. The VA has already wanting to take away one of my oldest brother's income of which he fought for. Thank "U" [Removed]

I lived in this community. Although breakfasts and lunches were good meals generally, dinners were very disappointing. Limited choices would be available. Meat at breakfast and white meat chicken was rarely served. I felt management was in general less than honorable. They made promises prior to the agreement being signed that became null and void as soon as the ink was dry. Frequently, they would tell me they would do something on a day to day basis only for it to never happen. The best part of the Regency House was the residents and the hourly staff. The residents were intelligent, accomplished former professionals. Depending on their current abilities, they played an active role in the community. The hourly staff (many of whom had been there for years) genuinely cared about the residents and worked with different abilities as best as possible. Given everything, I felt the Regency was very overpriced.

I got the pleasure of taking our tour with the manager who seemed busy most of the time. We got to see the clean community and during my tour I noticed that the apartments were extremely small. Overall it seemed like a good place but the community did not fit my need and wants.

I am in the process of moving into this facility. However, I find that the management is very poor. At present, the two sets of managers do not communicate with each other nor do they communicate with residents very well. Listening to other residents it seems like it is hard to get things done, especially minor repairs to the apartments. I have witnessed this first hand. Complaints tend to be ignored or brushed aside for a later date. Promises are not generally very well kept. Everyone, both staff and residents are very friendly here and tend to get along real well. The buildings and grounds are very well kept. There are a lot of activities here. They really keep you busy. The bus always seem to be taking residents to one place or another. You don't need a vehicle here. I find the food and dining facility very good. This could be a really great place but at the present time some improvements are needed.

People that worked there and the management was nice. Place is definitely not worth the money in my opinion. No security deposit didn't like that there wasn't a security deposit and that they got to keep the money. Would not recommend this nor will I recommend this facility to my patients. Customer service was quite rude on my experience and did not know where the facility even was. Dad complained about the food, stated his eggs were commonly cold. The facility itself was nice though and the backyard is well maintained.

This is structurally a nice building but the decor in hallways and rooms needs updating. (Dark colors, heavy furniture make the small rooms feel closed in. My mom is looking for a place where she can choose to cook some meals. These apts do not include any cooktops, with the idea that 3 meals a day are provided, so why cook? Most elderly people don't eat three meals a day, so wonder if the cost of paying for all three is worth it. We liked that the managers live on site and know the residents.

My mother has been a resident at this facility for a couple of months. The facility is well kept but my experience with the staff is less than adequate. Complaints are brushed off. The food is subpar at best. The wife and I randomly ask residents what they think of the food and we get a large majority saying that it is aweful. We were working with the assistant managers before they left in trying to resolve some of the issues with bad food, lack of choice and the lack of care about it. But they left and any complaints now are shrugged off by the current management. And don't try and talk to the regional manager, he is not trustworthy in my opinion. My mother was treated rudely by the regional food manager and was called a liar. The activities are good and my mother enjoys them. Overall this facility is poorly run compared to other holiday facilities we have been associated with. I would figure in some additional food in your budget if you decide on this facility.

The first impression was the on site managers were a little over the top, facility felt and smelled like a nursing home. The average resident age is 86, a bit older than I want. The food was average and service was somewhat slow. It seemed the staff was small for the number of people they had to serve for lunch. The assisted living and independent residents are housed in the same building. The facility has only one elevator for ~200 residents in 128 units. Main benefit is the ability of unlimited stays in any of their 300 facilities nationwide for up to 7 days for free with room and board provided.

Value was terrible. I had a one room bedroom and front room combined at the bottom of the scale, there was a good view of the bay, but there wasn't $2000/month value of being there. I got most of my care through the VA. There are no care services available at the fountains, and you only get two meals a day. There were a lot of activities available, but I'm in my 70's and you have persons there in their 80's and 90's so there wasn't a lot of interaction.

My mother began on the assisted living side and she was a bit disappointed with the few activities however, the rooms were a nice size and staff were nice. She was in the assisted living side for 1 1/2 years. Once her memory failed, we moved her to the memory care unit. At this time, she was able to dress herself, feed herself, bath herself and she walked with a walker. I hired outside individuals to be with her every day to keep her company until COVID-19 hit and no one was allowed in the facility. Within 2 months, my mother could not talk on the phone and I asked if she was being drugged. I later found a bill where they ordered her schizophrenia medicine without my approval. She was diagnosed with extreme dehydration. She was confined to a wheelchair and the staff was feeding her as she was unable to. They requested that I call in Hospice. I called an ambulance instead. She was in ICU for 5 days and the hospital for a total of 2 weeks when she recovered. Needless to say, I transferred her to another facility and she is doing well there. Stay away from the memory care! Remember, if you are only needing independent or assisted living right now, you may need memory care later- find another facility that provides both. Don't take a chance.

As a former resident (moved [Removed]), I do not recommend Regency House, a Holiday Retirement community. While the residents at Regency House are talented and compassionate retirees and 95% of the hourly staff genuinely care about and serve the residents despite not being supported by their employer (Most are part-time with a close to minimum wage incomes, no benefits and no paid time-off.), I found Regency House to be of very poor value and not customer oriented. The corporate parent, Holiday Retirement, seemed to be far more interested in making substantial profits than caring for its residents and employees. I was promised many things prior to moving in. I received very few of them. Some differences between what I was promised and what I received from 12/15 to 7/17 was as follows: 1) I was promised two couples who would live on site and respond 24 / 7 to any pull-cord emergency. This policy changed, and I was given a "help me, I can't get up" pendant to cover my safety from 7:00 P.M. to 7:00 A.M. 2) I was promised meals prepared by two "four star" chefs. What I received was school cafeteria plus quality grade food where food options were strictly limited by a tight budget. I can count on one hand the number of times I ate white meat chicken during my entire stay. Frequently, food choices were not available. 3) At around $3,000 / month, I assumed I would get a well-maintained, secure, comfortable and safe apartment. What I received was a poorly maintained building that negatively impacted my health. Regency House did not have a maintenance person for at least eight weeks in the Winter and Spring of 2017. HVAC systems were not maintained, and air filters were not cleaned monthly per manufacturers specifications. (See examples of mold testing that showed extensive mold growth on the AC filter and in the apartment.) There were holes in residents’ closet and bathroom ceilings that remained un-repaired for at least a year. A gutter fell from the third floor and remained on resident's patios for over three weeks. 4) I was promised free transportation to doctor appointments and errands. What I received about 40% of the time were announcements at meals that the bus would not be operational that day due to driver illness or vehicle breakdowns. And despite these (and other) cuts in service and broken promises, my rent was raised $150 / month after one year. If you are looking for senior independent living, look elsewhere. At Regency House, I found myself very frustrated at paying way too much for far too little.

My parent has lived at Washington Commons for almost a year and one of the reasons we chose this facility was the management - [Removed] in particular. Since they left, we have seen the staff change multiple times, the food is less than desirable and the morale of the residents has declined tremendously. The activities are not exactly as described, even non-existent, and they don't really seem to care about what the residents have to say. We are now looking at a different facility and apparently so are lots more - I hear there are over 20 empty apartments. The only good things I have seen, and I'm there often, are the wonderful ladies who serve meals and clean the apartments for these deserving older residents. You definitely don't get what you pay for here. Do not recommend unless changes are made.
