My mother-in-law was in the memory care unit. When we toured the facility, they made all these grand promises of how they would help her with dressing, bathing, etc. However, that did not happen. In fact, she walked around all day with her pants on inside out. They do not keep a close eye on them which results in them wandering in other patients’ apartments. We just felt like they didn’t properly take care of her.

This is a great community if you are still independent or need some assistance. My mom has lived here for nearly 2 years, but she needs to be in a smaller setting with more of a one-on-one setting. They offer a lot of amenities for their residents and I would suggest scheduling a tour of this community. I have found a smaller residential home that is a better fit for my mom.

We are somewhat displeased with my loved one's stay. We are just having issues with communication between staff, nurses and family members. I am also concerned that I haven't received important information or documentation concerning my loved one's stay. If these issues were ironed out, my loved one would have a much easier time here.

Needed a place to settle my elderly aunt quickly. A Place for Mom was very helpful. One of the locations recommended by the representative and the VA Hospital was the Fountains of Boca Ciega. The location was beautiful, the cost very reasonable, and multiple levels of care is offered. However, this was off-set by the lack of management's communication to one another and the failure to return several phone calls. Copies of paperwork were requested and never received. My aunt died unexpectedly and if it had not been for Claire Ferry, we would have had to pay an additional (2) months of rent. The elevators can best be described as a nightmare. Very small and frequently out of service. There is no service elevator to move large furniture pieces and no assistance provided by the Fountains to assist in moving. The R&M moving company has been moving household goods for many years to and from the Fountains and did an outstanding job.

This place is poorly managed. There has to be issues due to high staff turnover. I have met some of the friendliest staff and then they are gone due to upper management. They have had 3 cooks in less than a year, they have had 3 director of health in less than a year, there front desk has had several turnovers, This is such a beautiful place but is poorly run. I have tried on several occasions to speak to management about my concerns and she just blew me off and told the staff that I was just a complainer.

Not a good value. A dear friend of mine moved into Independent Living and then moved out. They charge an upfront fee that does not go to any healthcare. After checking around many in the area myself, I found that most charge this fee but it is for a guarantee of care. The Fountains does not offer this. It is simply a privilege to live there. My friend moved out 8 years ago and is still waiting on a partial refund. The Director even phoned her to ask her to take less so they could resell this apartment, allthewhile this apartment has seen a price increase numerous times over that 8 years. Do your homework and know what you are getting into. Many better value options in town. At 81, I try to stay young and active but this place was for "Old" people.

My parents, brother and I all toured The Fountains at Boca Ciega Bay last spring as a placement for my parents who had both been diagnosed with different stages of dementia. Our primary concerns were that they received the proper care and that they could stay together. My mother was starting to develop mobility issues and was using a walker. The Fountains is a very large facility with different levels of care separated into clearly defined sections. Although the tour and interview process were very intensive, we were not really convinced that my parents were going to be placed in the correct living situation. The first person you meet at most of these facilities is a SALESPERSON. While most of them have very good hearts and are in the business because the truly care for the elderly, they are not medically trained elder care or memory care specialists. They are more like realtors. My parents and the salesperson were steering toward independent living so that they could stay together in an apartment. Both of my parents have dementia! They would need daily housekeeping and eventually personal care for my mom. The facility wanted a steep charge to "set up" paint and renovate an assisted living apartment that would not be a a long term placement for my parents. Many of the services were "add ons" as housekeeping is included only 2 times a month. The Fountains seemed tired and old with narrow hallways and needed to be renovated to address many ADA and mobility issues. There also seemed to be so many people sitting in the lobby all dressed up with no where to go. It was kind of sad. We went with Brentwood Senior Living Community which has modern apartments in their memory care unit where my parents have privacy together, daily housekeeping and medicine management as part of the fee. The staff is wonderful and deeply committed with maintaining the dignity of each person. My take away from the process is this: The first person you meet will most likely be a sales person. Come with a list of what is important to you and your family. Look at the residents. Are they smiling and happy or just sitting there? Price is an issue with everyone at some level. Look at the overall value. Is everything included? Pay one price will ultimately be the best value as things will start to get added on pretty quickly in a pay for service facility. These facilities have empty beds and ALL negotiate. Example: 1/2 off the first couple of months. No move in fee. It cannot hurt to ask. And finally, follow your instincts. If it is not so bad or ok, keep looking. You and your family deserve a placement that has you going to sleep at night knowing that your loved one is in the right place, safe, well cared for and happy. (the happy on the resident's part may take up to 9 months but it does happen)

Things just don't get done around here. Repairs wait for weeks. Transportation is down for weeks, laundry didn't work. The food is miserable - they charge you for three meals a day, then serve slop you wouldn't willingly pay to eat. Don't come here.

I have a family member currently here, the staff does their best with the resources they are given. They pull double shifts etc. Luckily my family member is still able to communicate. There have been 3 issues with their medication running out on the weekend. Missing more than 4 doses of a much needed medication for their condition. I worry about the ones who cannot speak, there really needs to be a medicine audit for these people. The administration ([name removed])wants to blame the techs, but the techs are barely taught(high turnover rate), no certifications, yet they have so many residents with varying meds to keep track of. So please pay attention if you put your loved ones here, believe them when they talk.

My father's experience at the Blake/LPGA was unfortunate. His stay was only a few days, so please keep that in mind. The facility is beautiful, the activities seemed to be engaging, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. However, on his arrival there was a lightning strike that disrupted many of the facilities systems. When he had an incident in his bed and was unable to move, the call button did not function. They also did not check on him for several hours. He was traumatized. Afterwards, the team was apologetic and conceded that they failed to check on him as was scheduled. Nevertheless, he insisted that we leave the Blake after just a few days. The deposit was non-refundable. An expensive, brief stay. To be fair, a lightning strike technical disruption is out of their control. However, the routine bed check was in their control and not done. If systems are down, other protocols must work. So, a kind and helpful team with a beautiful facility...but that experience was traumatic.

If your loved one does not have any special care needs, Blake may be ok, but visit often, participate in activities and do not hide in room. They sales team will always say they can handle special needs, but check with the actual team that will be providing care.

My mother has lived at The Blake in Memory Care for approximately 1 mo. During this time, I've had to address turning the shower on for my mom, not just asking her, when we were specific that she would not do this on her own. Basic toiletry needs neglected. I've had to alert unsanitary hydration methods for memory care. Unclear when clothes and linens get laundered. We specified that due to religious reasons, my mother was not to be given pork. I do not blame the personal assistants or staff because they were not properly instructed, but my mom was given, and eaten, pork bacon. If she knew this she would freak out since she trusted what was given to her. Imagine if this was an allergy food item. 10 vacant positions! Problem...the Manager in over her head.

In the 5 days we were on site, I personally assisted 2 residents who were stuck in the exterior door adjacent to the elevator. STUCK! The Heavy door closed on them and their walker and they could not free themselves. The automatic opening doors are broken and residents told me they had been for at least 2 weeks. This is seriously dangerous. We had 6 meals in the 5 days were were there. ALL served on Plastic plates, plastic cups & plastic cutlery. We were told this was because the dishwasher is broken. It has been reported as broken for SIX WEEKS. The quality of the food is abysmal! I ordered roasted cauliflower from the menu and received mixed veg dumped from a can sans seasoning. We ordered blackened fish and received plain fish. When asked, the waitress said the kitchen staff didn't know how to prepare blackened fish. I ordered a club and received a sandwich possibly fit for a 5 year old; white bread with processed cheese food slices. There is more but space is limited here.
