My grandmother has been very happy here. It has taken a lot of worry away from our family. She loves the meals and activities, and it's one of the more affordable options around (very important for her). The only downside has been billing - they have told us twice that her rent wasn't paid on time when it absolutely was, and we'd receive nasty letters about it. The office staff has been pretty nonchalant about their errors. If they could get that aspect of it fixed, it would be a 5 star community.

I am grateful for the opportunity to be here. Ideally, I really would prefer living in my home. But, due to unexpected health problems. I made the decision to move here. I treasure my dear friends I have made. I am an active resident and ambassador and hope I am a positive influence on those I meet. Smoky springs - the home of the great breakfast.

My parents moved here in 2005, 13 1/2 year later my mom is still here. The staff is friendly and caring. My mom is now 96 and I never worry that she will be looked after when I am not around. There are a lot of activities for the residents to participate in. With haywood, I have been really pleased for years. This was an excellent choice for my family.

New Resident Review. Week 8

Food is a big deal here. Breakfast is great. All you can eat. Lunch is actually dinner. Hravy food to consume at 1230pm. Few fruits unless you give up your meal. Dinner at 530 is light. Soup and sandwich. Veggies and fresh fruit lacking. Ovetall the chef is wonderful and food wuality good to very good. Many older residents assisted by on house non skilled care who assist with bathing, laundry, and rides to dining room. Activities are almost hourly at times and mostly sedemtary with the exception of chair yoga and ti chi weekly. As a new resident I see activities too sedentary for folks supposedly living independently. Tripscto play golf, tennis, snd swim sre needed. Wintercactivities are needed to feel and stay physically fit. I would give 5 stars if activities were planned for active residents andcfresh fruit and much more quantities of veghies were ogfeted with meals

I would recommend Silver Creek

My mother is very happy there. She has memory issues but is still independent with ADLs . At first we had a few issues because the staff did not realize the extent of her dementia. Once we worked through that issue, the care she receives is better. She likes the food and has gained weight. Residents are strongly encouraged to participate in planned activities but not (forced). She enjoys the occasional trips out to nearby restaurants.

Moving Day at Washington Commons

I just moved my father into Washington Commons this weekend and it has been a very good experience so far minus the stress of moving in. The facility is very nice and appears very well maintained. My father's one room apartment looks new to me. The common areas are also very nice and welcoming with a very nice dining room and activity areas on the first, second, and third floor. The facility could use a second elevator as opposed to the one single elevator that is often tied up and full during meal times. Additionally, more signage pointing to the alternate routes and areas would be VERY helpful. I only realized after the second day that there were stairs beside my father's room that led to the outside and interior corridors. I am still unsure where some of the rooms are that are listed on the activity calendar. There is cable provided as part of the rent but it is via a basic cable box/outlet affixed to the wall and a coax cable. I spent 2 hours setting up 2 televisions as there were no instructions other than how to set up the universal remote. I asked for assistance but was told that the cable company would have to be contacted the next day. That would have been pure misery for my television addicted father so I sat down and figured it out myself. Basically, you have hook up the TV via the coax cable, set the TV to channel 3, do a channel search and then point the remote at the box on the WALL as opposed to the TV. The following day, a maintenance worker very kindly helped me to pair the remotes to the TVs so that is no longer necessary. There is no wifi in the apartments unless the resident is directly over the office where the office router is kept. I asked about it and was told that we would have to purchase wifi separately via an Xfinity router and service agreement. That is disappointing when all they need to do is install a few wifi boosters around the building. Meal time is great and the food is relatively good in my opinion. They have 2-3 choices of entrees every meal and although not fancy, the food is good. The beverage choices are limited to water, coffee, tea (unsweet), and lemonade. The servers are amazing, very patient, and extremely helpful. If there is a rude one on staff, we have not encountered her/him. My understanding from my Father is that they also have snack foods in between meals in the common rooms but I have not witnessed that myself yet. He likes it and goes there for coffee in the morning. Moving in was stressful as moving always is but this move could have went easier if I had known there were carts and hand trucks kept in the back to help with moving etc. We found them midway through moving when I asked if they had any wagons or carts that we could use. Additionally, there is no back door so you are forced to lug everything large through the lobby and to the elevator if it will fit into the passenger elevator. If not, you have to lug it up 3 flights of stairs. That could use a lot of improvement but I'm not sure what could be done other than an additional elevator and perhaps hiring professional movers. The staff at Washington Commons are all very nice and very willing to help. I have not encountered a single one that was not pleasant and helpful when help was sought. They all seem to get along well with the residents even when the residents are complaining about something (empty soap dispenser). [Removed] in particular is great and is the primary reason that we chose Washington Commons. He gave us the first of multiple tours that I took with my daughter and then my father. I'm not sure that we would have chosen Washington Commons if not for the first tour that we took with [Removed] in November. My father was supposed to be paired with another resident to orient him to the facility but that has not happened to my knowledge. Because my father has memory problems, I hired 'Right at Home' to provide well care visits at mealtime and activity time. This serves to remind him to go to meals and to participate in the activities. I think that he will adjust to the routine at WC in a week or two and won't need the aides for very long but it a great service to have available.

I toured here when looking for a place for my Step-Mom. It’s definitely an older facility and there are more residents than staff. But, they seem to be keeping the residents very active. They were cooking things in the kitchen when I went for the tour and the smell was permeating the entire building. The lady that showed me around was quite pushy. She kept calling even after I told her we decided not to go with them. From what I remember seeing, they had jigsaw puzzles and a few other activities they were able to provide to the residents. There were a lot of corners and hallways, being that it was older, but it was clean. I really appreciated that they spent a lot of time with me and told me everything I needed to know. I think bringing your family member here would be fine, you’d at least get your money’s worth.

My husband and I met with [removed] at Ashley Park where she gave us a tour and answered our questions about the facility. She showed us a studio apartment as well as a 1 bedroom apartment. The studio apartment was quite small but probably functional for what we were looking for. It had been an office prior to our tour and had not been cleaned. [removed] offered to have it carpeted if desired. The 1 BR floor-plan was definitely more spacious and clean and attractive. The entire facility seemed very well maintained. [removed] was also negotiable on some of the expenses...we told her about some of the other specials we had heard about and she was willing to meet those specials, as well.
