Mario and Paul were very helpful and understanding in dealing with my demanding Mother, and I think Smoky Springs is a cheerful and well-managed facility. Mom does not require care at present and she does not take part in activities so I can't rate them fairly but it seems that other residents value them highly. I know that care is available on [removed] I see the caregivers making their rounds each time I visit. Insofar as I know at this time, the single elevator is the greatest drawback. It would be possible to install a second elevator adjacent to the existing shaft, but it would be expensive, disruptive and would decrease capacity by two apartments, so I doubt that will ever happen.

So Active! We Love It!

It has made a huge difference in my mom, just in the last couple of months. She in in independent living, but she gets two meals a day, transportation, and her apartment cleaned twice a month included in the cost. They have a lot of parties to celebrate; they had Oktoberfest, and they celebrated for Halloween. They have a pontoon, so they take them out on Boca Ciega Bay. They take them out to eat, they took them to tour one of the navy ships in the Tampa Bay Harbor, and they toured a couple of mansions on the market in the area. The Fountains blew out all preconceived notions of what these places would be like. The residents are all happy and busy and moving around. It's very, very active. They even have a 25 seat movie theater! They have a gym and physical therapy that will come there to work with people, so you can stay in the same facility no matter what your care needs are. Everyone has been wonderful there, my mother has really embraced it. She lived by herself in Iowa, but now she has made a lot of friends. When residents first move in, they assign a peer mentor to help the new resident get the hang of it there.

great choice

We picked Sunrise of Decatur because dad had been in a sunrise independent living community in Boca Raton. They made the move easy and we have all felt welcomed by the community It was the right choice for dad who is doing better here than he had been in Stratford Court

I really liked the Fairmont best, but I didn't like the location. It was too far for my family in Reston. They had a one bedroom apartment that was bigger than the two bedroom in Sommerset and it would have been easier to arrange my furniture. I was particularly struck by the lightness, there were big, large windows in the apartment, the hallways were light as were the common areas. They had a full meal plan which might have been too much for me because I'm on a restricted diet and it was the same price or less than Sommerset but I couldn't imagine getting in my car and driving to Reston everyday.

Reputation Precedes

We chose The Fountains because its location was convenient for my family to visit our loved one. They were also recommended by people we knew and when we asked about The Fountains only heard good things. Our loved one seems to be adjusting very well and is starting to look better. Her appearance looks healthier and fuller of life then she previously was. We had looked into 7 other communities, but we chose them and feel it was the right decision. (Can not rate Care Services because have not used them)

Lighthouse Pointe ( May 1, 2013)

From management, culinary, activity, and maintenance staff, all are 5 star. The building is beautifully decorated, immaculately clean, and a joy to enter. The meals are superb, the staff could not be more helpful or welcoming. I specifically want to thank the managers for making my mother's move to Lighthouse Pointe such a smooth transition. Their personal touch and caring attention to my mother made all the difference in the world. I would love to live there myself.

The cleanliness is great. The staff is great. The food is hit or miss, but that's wherever you go. We had an issue with the nursing staff that was there and they took care of it promptly.

Glenncrest at Buckhead

Since Sunrise became Glen Crest, I'm not convinced the change has been for the better. During the transition and change in ownership, many of the long-term staff left for various reasons. The menu became less creative, and the level of responsiveness to residents' and families' immediate needs noticeably declined. My father eventually transferred to another facility because his care needs exceeded what the program could provide. Looking back, it felt like staff may have been reluctant to have that conversation with us directly. Instead, communication became increasingly limited and unresponsive, which was especially frightening during such an uncertain time for our family. Even after my father's transfer, communication remained an issue. I'm still waiting for a response to an email I sent two weeks ago about an extra wheelchair we accidentally left at the facility. The lack of follow-up has been disappointing and reinforces my concerns about communication and responsiveness.

Looked great during the tour, even better in real life

The staff is A++++ over all. Most have stayed even after the new mgt company came in. That says a lot. The food is good to very good. That is also saying a lot! Very clean, doesn't look or feel like an assisted living facility at all. Very homey. My mom is very happy and doing very well. Much better than before she moved from her enormous house almost a year ago. Only issues are minor things they are ironing out with the mgt transition... they lost free landline service so I've been scrambling to get my mom a phone she can use. Still working on that. Otherwise, things seem mostly better, and they were already good under Sunrise. Mom is in a 2 bedroom (580 sf) but there are only two units this size. But even the one beds and studios are very nice. Activities are numerous and diverse. Mom doesn't participate in many of them but she did at first. She is 92 yo. She does however go to all three meals, even if she isn't particularly hungry because she loves to see her friends. She also goes on some of the outtings (restaurants for lunch, the Aquarium). Staff has low turnover rate and they really seem to enjoy the residents and vice versa. They are patient and kind and my mom LOVES them. I toured (sometimes more than one) pretty much ever AL w MC community within 10 miles of my home and this one was very different in terms of really feeling homey and like the residents and staff were enjoying their days together there.

Review for Ashley Park by Barclay House

Living here is good, lots of good people and staff but the overall experience could be much better if some areas would be improved requiring little effort or at least concern. Some of staff and especially sides appear "put out" with residents, kind of like herding sheep, get em' in and get em' out.

Would recommend- love all the staff!

My husband is in the memory care unit. He has been there since the very end of August. The staff is very caring and I really like them all. They are all very friendly and helpful. It is a very clean facility and the rooms are kept up very well. My husband is in a private room and is a very adequate for all of his needs. The facility has just finished revamping all of the rooms. They have entertainment periodically, and they all seem to enjoy it. Overall, I would say that it is a very nice establishment. They did have a increase in cost, and for me that amounted to a about a 25% increase. Therefore, I am checking out another facility in Carrollton. I would suggest that whoever is investigating facilities that they check out more than one facility. There is also another facility in Carrollton that I found less appealing so it's always in your best interest to check out more than one.

Review for Barclay House of Augusta

The resident has complained about the food not fitting her diet and not getting help with showering, etc. She says twice they ran out of food and she got a cheese sandwich. She likes her apartment but there isn't much privacy. They seem to be short staffed almost always. In my opinion, they need more staff and more qualified medical staff with a deeper understanding of pharmacology. Also, they pretty much require the use of Guardian Pharmacy whose prices are way above local pharmacies.

Overall a solid choice, but housekeeping needs improvement

The staff are friendly and helpful. Housekeeping needs improvement... especially carpet throughout. Needs to be replaced with something easier to clean. The elevator needs cleaned also. A second elevator would be ideal since there's only one.

Highly recommend! Lovely community, friendly staff

The staff is attentive and friendly, the food has been great. The overall dining experience has been of restaurant quality. Staff are constantly cleaning the common areas. Staff changes sheets and does light cleaning weekly. The apartment is lovely. It has been newly renovated. The Floorplan features a raised ceiling giving it a feeling of spaciousness. The closet space is somewhat small. The only drawback is that as the last unit on the wing, the internet doesn't work because it is too far from the router. We are still trying to come up with a solution. There is on site OT/PT available as well as in-home health care. Both are provided by independent companies but they bill health insurance. Most health needs can be met in home...x-rays, bloodwork, urinalysis, visits by a nurse practitioner.
