Avoid this Place

This place was horrible. My loved one was put on a high dosage of narcotics w/o my knowledge or consent. He was constantly in dirty clothes & his bedroom & bathroom were filthy. The management staff lied to me on many occasions. Couldn't wait to get him out of there.

Lacking

I've never lived anywhere with this many issues. We have false fire alarms frequently, they terrify the residents and traumatize the pets, and it takes upwards of 10 minutes to get it shut off. Things in the building that have broken and taken ages to get fixed: The washers, the dryers, the transport van, the Xfinity. Then you have repairs for the individual apartments that are often ignored. Won't come up with a hurricane evac plan for those who are dependent on their transportation. The food they serve is bad - if you were served this food in a restaurant, you'd send it back. We have constant turnover in management, but I'm hoping this iteration of new management can get things up to speed.

Not equipped to provide hospice

The staff at Sunrise didn’t seem to know my sister was dying. Waits over 30 minutes after button was pushed for help multiple times, brought full meals after we ordered soft foods she could swallow. The AC in her room flooded and the carpet was damp during her entire stay. Intake was delayed a day because meds couldn’t be procured but weren’t there when she arrived or for another 24 hours. Multiple billing errors were made and I am still getting a bill to comply with the “30 day notice” even though we were told it was waived because she was in hospice. We met with the executive director and her staff and they were receptive to our criticism. They indicated this was not typical for Sunrise but they would take appropriate steps to educate staff and ensure a better experience for future hospice patients. Caveat emptor.

In laws still haven’t received refund after almost a year

My in laws are having a very difficult time getting their refund for their unit. We are approaching a year and it seems like all they do is stall. It is meaningful money that they need for assisted care as they are 86 and 90 years old. It’s outrageous it is taking so long. Will revise my review once my in laws are paid.

Poorly run facility

Administration did not disseminate information appropriately, follow up to assure care was taking place, or when necessary contact family timely. To assure things are being done family needed to stay vigilant and share information with each shift and new employee. Even with numerous reminders some services were never put in place. Staff interactions with residents demonstrated limited patience and lack of understanding of this population. Without repercussion, staff was permitted to curse and talk negatively of residents. Rather than relieving the family of responsibilities, more was put upon them.

Do your research

John's creek was great to work with at the beginning, once he was there it was horrible to try to reach anyone. He was moved to John's creek which he was at John's creek a few weeks and fell out of his bed and said he was under his bed for hours. He was taken to the hospital and died months later in rehab. He was at the hospital and John's creek continued to bill for nursing and charges that were not correct because he wasn't there. I would call and call and call to get invoices corrected and they never called back. I just finally just paid what was correct. After my father died and was moving him out no one said sorry or offered to help. They acted like we weren't there. Horrible. You know John's creek was awesome at the beginning they really helped move him and it was great, but once he was there it was very bad. John's creek started at 5 and ended at a 1.

It is not what I expected to be, and I want to move somewhere else

I’m getting indigestion after every meal. I’m having to take Tum’s and Pepto-Bismol and the staff is not as friendly as I expected it to be. I’m having to pay additional food going out and buying food that my stomach can take.

Worse memory care I know of especially for the very high cost

We were lied to by The Barclay representatives selling care for memory care patients. We were in a bind to quickly find memory care for our father who was living in AFL and had wandered off at night in the cold in only his pjs.  They told us we would find great care there and that he would be "cared for like they care for their own parents".  He received very little care and was put in quarantine on the incorrect belief that he had c-diff as soon as I gave them our notice we were leaving which was 5 days after we moved in.  I had the director of nursing telling me how horrible the working conditions had been for her in only 5 months she had been there to the point she was leaving to go back to her old job.  Too bad she had not told us this in the pressure sales meeting we had with her in it.  The staff was suppose to be constantly walking the floor of the unit because "you will find we do not have a nursing station here", but I always found them sitting on couches in the activity room.

Things to know, do not recommend

1. This rating is based on their actions after my father passed away. They allowed ppl into his room to steal from him. Then they had the nerve to say owed a balance bc he didn't give a 30 day notice. 2. The common areas were clean but they lacked in keeping my dad's room clean. We were prepared to come every week to clean but they offered. They were hit or miss some days. 3. For the most part the ppl who worked there were nice. The residents were very polite and friendly. 4. The food was hit or miss. There were moments when my dad had to order food for delivery to his room and they forgot about him. 5. It was hit or miss. 6. He used to say the quality went down. It wasn't as good as it was when first moved in. 7. They were creative in keeping the seniors busy and active. 8. It was cost met the quality of the facility if that makes sense. However, I would not recommend this place to anyone based solely on the fact that they stole from a deceased person. Very unacceptable

Overall experience has to be pretty bad because my mom wanted to leave within the first few weeks. She complained about cleanliness, including roaches, staff indifference, and poor meal quality. She is now very happy at [facility removed].

Never refunded after Mom’s death

The facility is gorgeous but this place is grossly mismanaged. There isn’t a single person on staff that cares about getting a timely response to you. I have been waiting for almost a year for a rent refund following my mother’s death. Mediocrity would be giving the team the benefit of the doubt.

The woman who toured us around the community was very negative. She told us it would not be a good fit for my dad and that we should look elsewhere because he is not in a wheelchair or needing a lot of help yet. I appreciate the honesty but it was not a positive experience. Apparently the residents here are more like nursing home patients. The rooms are very small so this makes sense.

My Experience

Yes, I would recommend the facility. But, I have STAGE 4 CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE. So, They did NOT do a good job on my special diet for people with kidney disease. They tried a few months, after I moved in. But, it was very bad tasting and not to my taste. Most of the time I had to eat a sandwich. Someone needs to pay attention to people like me with Chronic Kidney Disease. I lost over 37 pounds this last time I was weighed. I had to get someone from my church to take me to Cracker Barrel to get good food that I can eat. So, I am moving out on [date removed]. And, I asked the new assisted living facility if they can assist me with my special diet. I explained to them what I can eat and what I can NOT eat. They wrote it all down and seem like they are going to help me 100%. So, that is good news for me. But the food problem is not the only reason I am moving out. I had to ask my church for help with my May rent. They helped me fine. But, Sunrise rent went too far over for my stay here. I was overdrawn at my bank for four or five months this year. I was having serious money problems. That is the 2nd reason why I am moving out. But the VA does NOT pay us Veterans enough money to live in a place like this. They need to do a lot better. And, pay all what it cost a Veteran to survive our time here. They don't, do a poor job at taking care of us Veterans.

Silver Creek Review

I wouldn't recommend this place at all. Staff is always a challenge to find. Doesn't return calls No-one to communicate with for any problems. The facility is beautiful but everything they tell you when looking there is absolutely not true. They don't care about the residents they don't check on them no one talks to the residents or helps them with anything. My mother passed and was in the hospital for 10 days, not one person contacted me to see how she was and it took 3 days after her death of me calling to let them know. I had to physically go in and just walk into the business administrator office because I couldn't get a phone call back to set up an appointment. Still haven't gotten a call and it's been since the [date removed].

Review for Anthology of Charlottesville

What got us was that it offered everything they wanted in one shiny new place. Unfortunately, the place is falling apart. But, still, it looked nice on the tour. Food and staffing, I suppose, were the two biggest issues. But there were lots of major issues, including billing errors and care lapses. It's was a costly error in more ways than simply money.
