Very disappointed with staff to resident ratio

I was very disappointed with this facility. The state of Florida requires a 1:10 ratio for staff to residents. But I feel like that should not be the case for residents with Lewy Body Dementia. The care ratio should be more along the lines of 1:5. There just was not enough staff to go around for all of the residents. I had complained numerous times about my Husband not getting proper care. In his room, they had a motion alarm. Anytime he got out of bed the alarm would go off and the staff would check on him. The only bad thing is, the staff had been so busy that my Husband had fallen and was laying on the floor for quite some time before anyone noticed. I asked the staff to put cameras up so even if they couldn't get to him at that moment, they would have a visual of what's going on. There was just a complete lack of attention. Don't get me wrong, this facility is nice and brand new. They had the right ideas. All of the staff members were nice, caring, and are sensitive to the resident's conditions. I recommend this facility but be cautious about the staff to resident ratio if your loved one has Lewy Body Dementia.

Lots of promises, but it turns out much different

My good friend came to live there, and it sounded so nice with the great food and beautiful surroundings. But it sounded much better than it was! From "less than edible" meals (used over and over again), to the housekeeping, to the management...she never got the services that she was promised. Rates would go up yearly, food selection and presentation was poor, unhelpful management who really didn't seem to care....we moved her out within a year! What a sad way to live life... with management and residents who just don't care anymore. A person that doesn't want to cause any trouble get completely forgotten!

Very Disappointed

It started out great, they were really friendly and I was excited to get my mom in there. But we have run into some problems. The managers have been unresponsive to my e-mail and do not want to address what is going on - not so friendly once the paperwork is signed! Mom is not happy with the food. Many times it does not taste good and they frequently run out of items so the variety is not there. It also takes a very long time, sometimes over an hour, to serve everyone. More trained staff might help. The housekeeping is not the greatest. They do not appear to dust or mop the floors with clean water. One week the bathroom sink was not even cleaned. They appear to allow anyone to move in just to fill the place up. A manager told me that someone is "lonely and has dementia". I do not think this property is appropriate for people with dementia.

communication needs improvement

We signed mom up to get in The Gardens at Brook Ridge back in May, and they have not been very good at communicating what is going on. Things have been continually delayed, and I have to go in or call to find out as they never contact me proactively. On the good side, it is a beautiful place and has everything that someone in that situation would need.

If you're looking at The Clairmont, look elsewhere

My 83 year-old father resides at The Clairmont. We selected this facility as his home when he moved to TX in the summer of 2012. We were happy with the facility at first. My father was comfortable in his apartment and he really liked the assistant managers and housekeeping staff. Sadly, problems surfaced soon after he settled in. The biggest, most consistent problem has been with the food. Within weeks of moving in, my father started complaining of the food -- it didn't taste good, he didn't know what they were serving, it made him sick, etc. I complained on my dad's behalf but the manager failed to follow through as she promised. Eighteen months later, the food is worse; the only helpful employees (the attentive and kind assistant managers) were replaced by an assistant manager whose only real skill is to offend and upset people. The persistent problems in the kitchen, maintenance department and management give me no choice but to file a complaint with the county and state inspectors. If that does not correct the problems, I will strongly suggest to my father that we find another facility for him. Although there are some lovely people living at this facility, I cannot recommend it to anyone until major changes are made!

Not a good fit for aggressive patients

They told me that's all they do is memory care....I believe he was there 3 days before they threw him out. They were not capable of handling anyone that had behavioral problems. That's there job so they told me. I really don't feel that any facility such as a memory care facility can handle an aggressive patient. It was quite a problem to find a place for him.

Renter Beware!

They have had a lot of staff quit recently. There is a lot they promised that is not being delivered due to the staff not being there. They don't have a driver for transportation, they don't have a chef, and the housekeeping isn't getting done. The community doesn't have my loved one in the system for us to make payments online. The staff they have are awesome, they are just overwhelmed. This hasn't been what we had expected for our loved one, or been promised. The meals have consisted of pizza, hot dog, ravioli, and other items. The meals aren't balanced. The food isn't the best due to the chef not being in the community.

Disappointed in service. Not what they advertise

We placed my mother here in the fall of 2019. There has been ongoing staffing problems. There has been so many constant problems that there must be problems with the management. They fired the cook, then the driver and neither has been replaced. The staffing in the kitchen is not adequate. The food is below standard. The site is lovely and you cannot observe these internal problems and of course no one mentions them during the interview process. This place problems has been ongoing with no resolution for months. Very disappointed.

Bait and Switch

OMG! Talk about buyers' remorse. Staff is friendly and dedicated, but the competence to provide smooth running services is lacking. The entire facility is horribly understaffed and staff is probably grossly underpaid. Business decisions are micromanaged by scrooge-like incompetents from a management complex in Florida. My first complaint is appearance. The laundry rooms and common areas are neglected. Windows are grimy and carpets (although recently cleaned) were downright icky. The landscape maintenance is so sloppily done that grounds do not appear attractive to the public or residents. Second, the sales materials state that cleaning services are provided. It's bait and switch. My cleaning services didn't start until the fourth week after arrived. The manager says I should expect cleaning to take up to 40 minutes. Cleaner is gone in less than 20!!! I'm allergic to dust, so I want the venetian blinds cleaned weekly. SHE TOOK A FEATHER DUSTER AND MADE FOUR PASSES on each window. After making a few swipes across the carpet, changing the sheets, swishing out the toilet she left. They move NOTHING, so residents (many who are 90 to 100) are expected to remove furniture, lamps, magazines, rugs, shoes, and any other matter on any surface they want cleaned. After making a few swipes across the carpet with the vacuum cleaner, changing the sheets, swishing out the toilet she leaves. It is very basic and not to standards needed to provide pleasant surroundings for seniors with limited mobility. Third, activities are a joke. The "bocce" court is is 4 x 10 tape outline on the floor of a 20' x 20' "activity room" where all other activities are conducted. Fourth, they advertise free internet and cable! HA! It's a basic, frillless package that it worse than nothing. Getting it set up was a nightmare. And worst of all, is misrepresentation of food services. Some indiscreet staff describe the kitchen as chaotic. Although, generally the chefs seem use high quality ingredients, the results can range from excellent to atrocious. Portion sizes are unpredictable and a meal can be scanty or over-generous. With just a little attention and a few adjustments, the meals could be consistently above mediocre or even memorable. Table service is also spotty, Whether careless or incompetent, only a few minutes of training would be required to provide staff with the skills to provide noteworthy and consistent service.

Can improve

This facility can improve some on the ratio of staffing. Also so many changes in staffing which i feel is not a very good thing for residents with Alzheimer's. Other then that its okay.

Not a place for Mom

This facility in the past nine months went from being an active community with wonderful management team to just the opposite. Management team changed leaving poor communication, poor selection of food (often running out of items), cleaning staff doubling as mealtime servers, elevators breaking down etc. I would not recommend this facility and should not be listed under "A place for Mom".

Need Better Senior Care

I would like to let you all know that my mom moved in to Holiday Harrison Regency in Ogden UT for only two months before we moved her out. First I would like to say the food service and food quality is horrible. You add Three meals into their rent and I'm confused to why, since the kitchen is always out of milk, juice, food that is on the menu each day. Not to mention the tenants don't get to put their own condiments on sandwiches or get to request food allergies to be eliminated off their food!!! Service is never on time, so tenants have to wait an hour to get meals over the scheduled time. There was one day the manager went to Costco to pick up food due to the lack of food in kitchen and tenants were asked to thank him for this service when the money came out of the tenants pockets to pay for the meal!!!! Very disappointing. Some of the staff are nice, but most of the staff don't even care for or help the tenants when needed. The fire alarm went off a few times and the chief of fire department informed management that the fire alarms are old and need to be replaced. They have not updated any of the fire alarms and management didn't even know how to reset the alarm after they went off. This is very, very unnerving and scary to think the tenants are not safe incase of a fire!!! We have moved m mom out of this place and into a nicer place at half the cost. I worry now about all the other tenants who can't get around so easy or that have to deal with poor food, service and management issues. It's very sad to have them pay out every month and not have adequate attention or food.

Do not recommend

1. 1 - they were not upfront about what the room would look like. The ""display" room was beautiful. The actual room was smaller and the furniture was old and beat up. 2. 3- the facility itself was clean, however the toilet in the room was loose and it smelled really bad. We told them about it a number of times and they never fixed it permanently. 3. 4- the staff were very nice for the most part. 4. 2- Mom's legs swelled and she needed to sit with her legs up- they did not seem to make that a priority. There were not enough recliners for all who needed one, so We brought in an electric lift chair/recliner for her room but since they didn't want the residents to stay in their rooms, she didn't use it. 5. 1- see number 1. Before signing any papers and moving in, my sister was in town and I took her to see the place. They showed us the display room again - one that had its own shower. On that same day they told us Mom would be in room 12. We asked to see it they said -no- they were getting it ready- painting and such. We said that didn't matter, we still wanted to see it, they said no. AFTER we signed the papers they told us she would not have her own shower since she tended to shower in the middle of the night at home. That made sense- but they didn't change her room- she still was in room 12 which meant they knew from the beginning she wouldn't have a shower in her room. And when we got to the room, it had not been freshly painted. We didn't trust administration from that point on. 6. 1- Mom couldn't/wouldn't eat their food. My husband and I ate with her a few times and it wasn't great. They made a point to ask what she liked, but didn't do anything special for her. 7. 1- Again, prior to move in, they made a point to ask what she liked to do. She loved to paint and do crafts. One time when I was there, there was a group painting and Mom was just sitting out in the hall. When I asked why she wasn't in there, they said they didn't know she liked doing those things. 8. 0- For us this was a terrible experience. Mom went into the hospital and passed away after only 1 month there. None of us wanted her to go back there and while we certainly didn't want to lose her, we were grateful she didn't have to go back. I will say there were other family members that said they were happy with the place, but that was not our experience. Our loved one seemed to get lost in the crowd.

Review for Dunwoody Pines Retirement Community

Beware! No security. The housekeeping staff stole all of my leased furniture. Because of the theft, I was not able to move in. They charged for the apt any way. The whole experience was a nightmare. Food was mediocre. Resident advocate would not speak to me about the theft. Older lady was know caked down by resident driver. Nothing was done Employees are not trained. Caring recommended and made a reservation for me to visit them and would not even respond to the complaints I sent to them about the lack of service and security.

Rude staff and horrible food options.

I spent 2 weeks here and couldn't wait to get out. The food options are none. If you're not there at the beginning of a meal, you have to beg them for a glass of any liquid. Would not recommend this facility to anyone.

Do not place a loved one here

This was not a good place at all. We had a very bad experience overall. I would not recommend them to anyone. They really need to improve on their patient care and their communication with family. They had significant staffing issues.

Mom left stranded in the heat on grocery trip

Be careful about sending your loved ones to Maple Brook Terrace Retirement community if you care for their well-being. My mother was left at Publix while other residents boarded the bus early and left before the agreed before 3PM time. My mother went outside right before 3PM. They are supposed to offer door-to-door transportation for seniors with their mini-bus. The driver was [name removed], who is the executive director of the facility. First, you would think she would do a head count to make sure all seniors were accounted for before leaving. My mom, who is 88 and uses a rollator, was told they would send a Uber to get her and wait outside at the curb in 89 degree weather. Whose elderly mom can navigate Uber? She was waiting in the heat for over 40 minutes until being picked up. She waved at every white car. You would think the executive director who in charge of the facility and left her stranded would get in her own car or the bus and drive 5 minutes to the grocery store.

Don't take your elderly loved one here.

They will rip you off. They changed staff members to many times while my mother in law lived there for a mere 2 months. She lived on the third floor and flooded her bathroom . Yes causing damage to the apartment below.Had to move in with us because they said it would only take 2 weeks to repair, when it actually took almost 2 months. She moved in in Feb and had to move in with us [date removed], Still wasn't fixed latter part of May so we put in the 30 day notice in June. Now they are saying she still owes almost [removed]. So can't figure out the first and last month rent thing paid up front is our problem.
