To start off, I try to stay away from writing reviews but when a senior care facility seems more focused on bottom line figures than their senior patients….It warrants an honest review. NOTE: I would read all recent customer reviews to make your own opinions on whether to use their services or not. But I have to echo other people’s displeasure of the care being given to loved ones at Sunrise of Cascade AND point out many issues we found out during and after using them. Just because its a new facility and they allow dogs,..only goes so far. The fact that you hear from people like us stating major concerns,…should concern you. Sunrises Director, [name removed] is incompetent, very dishonest and is more concerned about money than your loved one. We overheard a conversation in passing where she secured a $20,000 a month care package and began cheering and bragging to other internal office staff. She and staff will tell you “everything is going well” but in reality, they weren’t. They tried to hide items going on in the facility. We pulled my father out of their facility for 5 reasons. 1. Cuts on his arms: My father ended up with what appeared to be 5 finger nail cuts in his forearm. We were never told anything or told of any concerns but bruising and cuts appeared. The fact that this happened to a point where five finger nails pierce someone’s skin is beyond excessive. 2. Sexual Predator: While taking our father out on a daily excursion, staff told us that there were internal reports of a sexual predator on site (outside). Over the last few years he has been found masturbating to staff and those who reside there. In spite of this, no external communication about this has been given to families. 3. Communication: There was an incident where one of their staff members purposefully removed my fathers walker (although he couldn’t walk without it). Due to this my father fell face forward. What is more troublesome is we had to find this out from a 3rd service provider because it appears the facility wanted to keep this "hush hush.” This was borderline “Elder Abuse.” 4. Basic Care: Our father was admitted to the hospital. Sunrise didn't call us immediately when they noticed a change in his condition. It took almost 24 hours before we personally got a call from Sunrise when they knew there was an acute issue. He wasn't eating or peeing and Sunrise didn't even check his temperature, when in fact he had a 103 temperature and was shaking for that day. This is not the earmark of expert care while paying $5,000-7,500 a month. 5. Violation of Tenant Lease: After giving our 30 day notice of departure we were contacted a few times regarding our departure date. At that time we stated that we would be willing to vacate the room prior the 30 days if the new prospective tenants needed to move sooner…BUT only if we were going to be prorated, and refunded our money when they moved in. If we are going to be paying for a room, there was no sense in rushing to move anything. We didn't hear from the office or a sooner move in date from new prospective tenant. When we came to pick up my fathers items on the last day he was legally leased till, [name removed] and Sunrise decided to violate my fathers own tenancy rights and removed ALL items from his room. Sunrise didn't place them in a locked location, but instead placed in the facility's common areas where anyone (residents, visiting patrons, staff, etc) could take or rummage through his items. Not once were we called to discuss this nor would we have given Sunrise permission to do so. We trusted Sunrise to protect all his belongings. As a facility Sunrise had an obligation to protect those items. Because of Sunrise’s actions, items were stolen and/or lost. What happened during my father's stay was unacceptable and I hope for all current and future residents people really investigate and review other peoples experiences so that they don’t experience what we did…BUT most importantly put a loved one through it.

Just had Thanksgiving at this place -- it was horrible! The food was "freezer burned," and had a horrible metallic taste to it. They had no dressing, and ran out of pumpkin pie. Do not put your family here if you care about what they are feeding them -- it's cheap and badly prepared. They have constant turnover and the place is filthy (The Courtyard, Lakewood, Colorado). This place has gone steadily downhill -- they promoted the dishwasher to the head cook! That's how bad the staffing has become. It's cheap -- corporate profiteers run amok -- taking advantage of the elderly!

The facility was clean. It looks like they were about to serve lunch. So we did get to meet with some of the residents. Looked like they had a different activities. The staff was very vague and rude. Talking about financing before we even started the tour (in the hallway) not even in a room. Wanting to talk logistics pretty much as we entered.

I’ve never met such a dedicated, caring group of people. Everyone from every department is very responsive and they keep you fully informed. My mother had a diffcult time adjusting at first because of her confusion. All through the early days of her residence, there was someone sitting with her every night until she felt better and less frightened. I’m very thankful for my mother’s good care.

My father resided here for 5 years and was recently evicted due to declining mental health and behavior issues they were not equipped or educated enough to manage. My father was diagnosed with MCI underlying dementia at time of admission and thrived well until a new director came in a couple of years ago. I've had medications "go missing" after personally handing medications to staff, I have had serious concerns about caregivers and their ability to manage residents with impaired cognitive function which I have addressed repeatedly with the director and managers and have received zero follow up on. Now I am left with 30 days to relocate my father after 5 years of residency here. None of the "nurses" nor senior managers have certifications of any kind to manage seniors. Beware that your loved one may be tossed out as well. Parking is nonexistent for family or visitors due to staff parking in visitor areas. I have witnessed many times individuals parking along "red curbs" obstructing emergency vehicles. Very dangerous situation in case of fire or medical emergencies.

I don't feel it would bea good fit for my mother in law. I didn't like the area. The building is an old converted Marriott Courtroom. They purchased it 30 years ago and I have to say some of the carpet in the halls and the "basement" looks at least that old. The residents rooms are small, the living area are dark, the kitchens have very old cabinet and stoves. There isn't any dishwashers. When we went to leave, the office is a catch all for mail and array of papers. You couldn't see the top, it was so piled up. I didn't get a very good impression of the whole place.

This facility resembles a Disney resort. That is where the positive side ends. Your loved ones' care require constant micromanagement from you. Staff is forgetful or not well trained. Hurtful, disrespectful communication from staff occurs frequently. Residents are often ignored and have to request assistance repeatedly. The food is mediocre. Portions can be very small and residents have to repeatedly request more if they are still hungry. The rent and care fees are exorbitant and not justified given the poo level of service. Often the minimally required service does not occur and you have to complain in order to ensure it does happen. Staff do not display common sense and you have to be very specific with them hence micromanage them.

Don't rely strictly on the tour. They show their best then, but the care does not match up.

I would not send my mom or dad here. Had a horrible experience recently with the Director of Nursing and Executive Director. It used to be such a great place and has gone down hill. The costs keep going up and there isn’t nothing to show for it. The care givers are overworked and the nursing department is rude and arrogant. Stay away!

They give you a hard sell to sign you up and then make promises they don't keep. Service is horrible and inconsistent. They don't check on their residents as they promise. Food is not fit for seniors -- google "greasy food stroke risk seniors." They promise to fix what's not working and never do. Staff and management don't really care about the residents and there is a high staff and management turnover. Residents are very unhappy and think there has been a major change for the worse over the last year.

My parents both lived a Sunrise for number of year. The room were dirt and poorly cleaned. The food at first was good but decreased in both amount and quality. The nursing care is poor and coordination with outside care givers and family are poor. The care staff are good but very understaffed. The state audited the facility and agreed with the lack of care from nursing and staff. See state for audit.

Not happy with much of the care given to my family member. Look elsewhere. Don’t let the fancy buildings and affluent location fool you. Choosing a place to look after your loved one is an important decision. Do research and read reviews. I wish I had.

I scheduled an appointment yesterday at 4:00pm and received a confirmation email. I went to the appointment, but the facility didn't have my appointment and the contact person was not there. The activity director showed gave me a brief tour. While I was touring, various aides were standing in the hallway on cell phones, or seemed like they were doing nothing. They took me to see a dirty unclean room that someone just moved out. It smelled and it was horrible. I would never place my parents in this facility.

All common area old worn and tired. Many people in walkers and many aides. Salad bar was subpar. Nice enough tour guide, [Removed]. Nice residents. Was greeted by a 4 month resident who was really not happy there. This of course tainted our view but honestly, she had legit comments (dirty, many aides and walkers, cleaners did not move one chair and only stay 1/2 hour to clean the apt.

My father and mother in law were both in [Removed]. My father was first and I recommended it which I feel bad for later because my mother in law was in respite due to diabetes injury that could not heal , the caregivers overlooked a injured toe and Subsequently this caused her to be admitted to the hospital . She requires a caregiver to undress her and dress her. The injury was noted by the hospital on Friday at noon. When I spoke to [Removed] questioning why the injury was not discovered when undressing her the night before or better yet when dressing her that morning there reply was "these injuries can happen quickly". Really, in 2 hrs ! As regarding there statement that they do palliative care, beware: My father was 93 in a wheelchair and only 80 lbs. but his mind was sharp , he required 3 pain killers pills a day one was at night which one caregiver when she was on duty would make him get up from bed and go and get himself ! When he was dying in palliative ...beware... there palliative is not really palliative....I discovered that the dr ordered morphine injections and [Removed] staff does NOT give needles, can u believe it, I had to administer the needles , when I first admitted him they said don't worry he can [Removed] there if he gets sick they r palliative, well I think palliative should administer pain killers !!! Even the dr on call was shocked, so after a horrible night of this the next day he ordered morphine pump. I would not recommend this home to anyone. The director [Removed] never returns calls And [Removed] in charge of the caregivers never owns up to their mistakes.

Mom was there for a few years but every family meeting was a time to automatically nickel and dime on care until it went from somewhat almost affordable to completely outrageous and untenable. Remember this is a business

I had recently taken a tour of this community and I was a little turned off after the staff made us feel like it was a cars salesman pitch. We where taken into the administration office right after our tour and they wanted us to sign papers right then and there. I felt very pressured and I did not appreciate that. It was a huge turn off that they did not want to give us time or even speak to my mother about everything.

They require underground parking. Still very able bodied people. I am familiar with this facility was lovely for my mother in law who needed more care.
