My parent lived here briefly. I won't get into the details why my parent needed care. Suffice it to say things got complicated after a hospital stay. We had a very bad experience here. I based my decision on reviews and a personal tour. The day after I signed the papers I regretted it . Do not recommend, especially if parent cannot speak up or defend themselves (ie, any level of dementia or confusion). I was there almost every day once I learned the truth. Some good staff that may mean well. Overall my parent declined rapidly once in their care. Confusion over meds. Politics. House dr is convenient but a quack. Dining staff not sticking to dietary care plan. So much for diabetes. Out of control. The director of nursing actually called me and yelled at me! Probably because I was paying attention. I was local and could drop in regularly. what!? We paid for highest level of care. Once we activated hospice via an external agency we were able to improve level to some degree but sunrise staff refused to cooperate with our hospice group of choice. I believe sunrise was upset we didn't choose their "preferred" hospice vendor. The in house dr refused to authorize hospice meds. My dying parent was in pain. Hospice group tried to help. More politics. Once I made the decision to move my parent home, it was essentially too late, they declined too rapidly. Don't be fooled. I did have opportunity to talk to other residents. They seemed alarmed regarding certain issues they had observed. They were afraid to speak up. I contacted state ombudsmen program but I didn't get my courage up to pursue issues. I was too afraid of retribution while my parent was still there. Sadly my parent passed away before I was able to move them back home. Beware. Do your homework and then some. Maybe opt for respite care to try it out.

This is the worst place ever. I have a family member there who has been there for a few months. The staff neglect her for hours. I have come to see her every couple of days and whenever i do she is so wet from urine that her clothes are saturated and so is her furniture, which they attempted to cover up by halfway washing. This is elder abuse! When you complain they pretend to speak to the staff but nothing changes. All they care about is the money. DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONE IN HERE!!!!!!

I was very dissatisfied, the staff failed to keep my mom clean with her hygiene as well as the community it was absolutely disturbing. There was never anything documented and the communication between the staff was awful. All of the residents looked like zombies and seemed very miserable. I removed my mother from that community and she will not be returning.

If your parent needs dementia or Alzheimers care, RUN don't walk out of this facility. It is classic smoke and mirrors. The staff are decent , hardworking people. The management is a different story. [Removed], the head nurse claims to have thick skin, it's more like a stone cold heart. The director of the memory care is an event planner, nothing more. I thought the director of the facility , [Removed] was an honest , caring person. She proved herself otherwise. Her wanna be back-up, [Removed] is a salesperson, plain and simple. Now for the unit, expect to spend many, many nights in the ER as the nurses do not like to be bothered after 5 pm. 2 showers a week is the standard for you loved one, so plan on multiple UTI's, which lead to more confusion and weakness. And if you parent should happen to become comatose on the couch and they all just walk around and avoid them ,that's a learning opportunity, oh boy!

I only gave 1 star because I had to, their rating is zero. I moved my father into Sunrise of Danville for 3 weeks and moved him out because of neglect. It was so bad, I moved him out the day I gave the 30 days notice. Looks can be deceiving, the memory care residence was atrocious, memory care is an afterthought at Sunrise of Danville.

I was pleased with the location of this community. It was between my family and I and much closer. They have an outdoor pool and my dad likes to swim. Right before getting to move-in I got a call letting us know they were unable to provide the needs for my dad. it was a huge shock because my sister kept in contact with them about his needs. We had to find a place quickly for him. I was not happy about them cashing our deposit check and had to wait to get reimbursed.

Rooms and facilities are not what would satisfy our needs. Seems to be crowded.

This community felt like a nursing home.

Our experiences in this community were not a good one. They were not able to provide the type of caring my mother needed. It is a nice community for someone that is more independent and doesn't require much care. There are good activities and the residents are very friendly. The staff was not very attentive her and we had few problems with them. I would only recommend this community to someone that still wanted to live an independent lifestyle.

Run away from this place please.

Maria is never available. She is never in her office and never returns phone calls. Very poorly run! Extremely unhappy at this particular Sunrise.

My mother was in the Reston Sunrise for 2 1/2 weeks and it was not a good experience for her or myself. There were few if any activities for residents that are alert and would enjoy some stimulation. In fact, there was nothing offered and when you walk into the building you see many residents just sitting there. The ones who are capable of doing things are usually in their rooms watching tv because there is nothing for them.for them. My mother who had moved from a Sunrise in NJ , where she was very happy was extremely unhappy. She has since left Reston and now resides in the Fair Oaks Sunrise where she has been for the last 2 weeks and is very happy. When I received my final bill, there were some things that I did not understand. Maria [removed] was called into the sales office and told me that we were accidentally billed for Living Plus 3 which simply means that the resident receives assistance for showering, getting dressed and using the facilities. She acknowledged that this was a mistake and would be taken off the bill. When I received the corrected copy, it had not been taken off. I then spoke to Kara Le who is in charge of billing and was told that she could not take it off without Maria's approval. After 4 days of calling and leaving voice mails, she once tried to returned my call, but unfortunately my phone put her directly to my voice mail. On two occasions I called at least 5 times, after 4 days of frustration, on Thursday 2/4 I went there and once again she could not be located in the building. Jean, the Wellness woman on the third floor tried to tell me that my mom had received Living Plus 3 assistance, which was not true and confirmed by the Fair Oaks Sunrise where she does not receive that help. I told Janet in the Sales office that all I wanted to do was to pay my bill, but no one was willing to assist me. Eventually, Kara did take off all the incorrect charges and I paid my bill. I am so relieved that my mom is out of there and that I do not have to deal with them again. Maria [removed], does not do her job correctly and has no skills at relating to people and avoids dealing with any problems that may occur. No one in the building could even locate her when I called. This was an extremely frustrating experience dealing with most of the people at the Reston Sunrise. Janet in sales and Amber in the main office were the two exceptions in my experience at Reston.

She is there 7 weeks today. She has lost 8 pounds. They want to put her in hospice because she is not eating. That's funny because she eats when I'm there. There is nothing wrong with her. She has always been a slow eater, but after 30 minutes they stop feeding her. They never take her to the bathroom. She was never in a wheelchair at home. She walked in with a walker when she arrived. Now they have her in a wheelchair because they do not want to take the time to help her. In 7 weeks, they have done nothing that they told us they would do. [removed] She is 50 to 60% worse than she was when we brought her here. I feel that they want to put her in hospice because they do not want to take care of her.

My mom almost died. She got so sick while in their care. Mom had a fever ever night. Also, my mom's bill was suppose to be $1700 but, when I got the bill it was $3,000. I have asked them for documentation on billing, they still haven't given it to me.

Outside beautiful Felt very welcoming but the apt itself seemed more like a shared room that they let one person have rather than a true living room area

It is a very attractive place but the staff is very inefficient and disorganized! You get s different answer to the same question for each person you ask -- accounting says one thing, the resident services people say something different, and the engineering folks (who do things like fix toilets, HVAC, etc) have another answer! The monthly statements are nearly unintelligible and don't even ask about how to hook up and get cable TV. So for a senior citizen, it's quite frustrating to have to call people all the time to straighten things out. It's like you never left your single family home that you owned, where you had to hire help, manage all the maintenance, research how to fix things, etc. it's like you never left!! You thought you were going to stress free living but -----no!!! The staff at The Fairfax is much more interested in leaving at 4 pm on the dot and you never, ever, ev er, ever (!) get the staff on the phone live in person when you call for help or with a question. You ALWAYS have to leave a phone message and wait (and wait and wait) for them to call you back. On the positive side, the residents are friendly, they run some very nice outings for the residents, and the food is mostly tasty. But don't expect your move-in and set up to go smoothly. I could not even close on my apartment on the scheduled date because they emailed my family and I a legal document the night before that required me to sign which would hold my children and grandchildren (!) responsible for all financial obligations for my health care ----should i ever run out of money to pay them in the future. Waiting 2 months to spring this required legal document on me within 24 hours of my move was, needless to say, quite stressful and really left a bad taste in my mouth. I had to reschedule my moving company and everything was in a disarray or we could let an attorney look it over. If you are considering the Fairfax, ask right away for all legal and financial documents or they will try to spring it on you at the last minute. Also, you will enjoy life here if you are social and don't mind the inefficient staff. Bring your patience.

We were going to go here because of their reputation for specializing in memory care. We had such a terrible meeting with their head nurse, that we withdrew our application. The nurse and the director were at odds. They assessment process was abrupt, short, and incomplete.

Very expensive. Mouse dropping found in my mother's room. Staff, while very nice did not follow her care plan or family wishes (my mother is diabetic and the care manager went out and bought her ice cream cones and candy frequently despite being asked and told not to). There seems to be hidden charges that drive the cost up. Before my mother left she had been complaining that she didn't feel well. [removed] She had never had one before going to sunrise. They frequently left mom in her wet things. Very disappointing!!!! I would have thought for the amount they were charging and the level of care they said they were providing, that mom would have had better care. I'm thankful she is no longer there and is in a place where she is getting fabulous, incredible care.

The tour was informative and Susan was very professional. The Assisted lay out was nice. The Memory care area was overwhelming with foul smell and the carpets were very worn and dirty. Overall, not much in the way of being able to be outdoors - which mom loves. Pricing was competitive and their goal to 'staff for need' is impressive.

Sunrise told us that they would be able to care for my loved one, knowing all the care she needed. When they took over her care after a delay in paperwork and medications, and within a short period of time, they informed me they could not handle the care. The people were awesome, very nice, but I feel like they lied to us, about being able to handle the care. They did have nurses 24-7, and menus online to help manage diet. But I think if they need space they will say and do whatever, to fill the beds. They say that they give the residents a lot of care and touches, but it took a lot of time to respond to a pendant. They don't have enough staff to cover the floors. The people who work in here wear many hats. You really need to be able to advocate for the care of your loved one, or they need to be able to advocate for themselves. I had a terrible experience.
